Closed Caption:

they were going to talk a little bit
about dictation on your Mac which pretty
much means you can speak to your Mac and
it will type for you which is really
convenient when you're doing you know
books and manuscripts and just writing a
long email id rather talk to you later
and have it transcribe it for me then
have to play but myself with the newer
Macs in the newer Mac operating system
is really good dictation built right
into the computer and to get to it we're
gonna go up to our Apple menu to slide
down System Preferences and then once
you're in there you're gonna go to
dictation and speech for throw down
you'll notice already well I'm talking
the internal microphone right here is
pic my voice up so they have a mic on
your Mac it will start picking you up
the minute you come into this control
panel which is pretty cool you can also
change it here to an external microphone
or something like that if you had to
change it but it will start listening to
you soon as you turn on the system my
preference here let's turn on dictation
here's the on button right here they're
gonna ask if I want to use enhanced
dictation and all that means that it
works offline and a continuous dictation
with live feedback so I have always said
yes to that I'm not sure I really notice
the difference but I just leave it on
for now and then they're going to ask
well if you're not in the control panel
how do you want to engage the dictation
which means how do I make something come
up so I know the computer is actually
listening to me and that's actually
right here it says shortcut press
function key twice so what that means is
on your keyboard if you have a function
key in the lower left early a lower left
hand corner says at the end on it if you
have that your gonna hit just click it
twice and that basically turns on the
future look again twice and it turns off
the future so we'll talk about that the
second leg actually get into a document
show you what this really looks like
right now dictation is I'm gonna go
ahead and closes which go and launched a
text editor and I have texted on my
machine that's what I'm going to use so
here we are at a blank text document and
normally I'd be sitting here typing
along happily just like this for days
and days and days but with speech and
the built-in dictation we're not gonna
have to do that so I'm gonna go ahead
and hit my function key twice
member too quick clicks
there's the the built-in speaker system
that's actually listening to what I'm
saying and it's transcribing it on the
screen right now in real time and there
we go
so this is a really cool software
because like I said I don't have to type
a word up I just sit here and talk and
this computer will dictate and I'm sorry
I will dictate the computer lesson and
transcribe it for me and bring it back
to the screen so I had a little bit of a
hiccup right there but you can see what
it's doing it's actually keeping up with
me for the most part and it's really
cool and you have this built into pretty
much every mcintosh out there so it's
something you definitely want to use and
you there's a whole suite of stuff you
can do with it you know you can say
return against exclamation point and it
will put those in for you that's a
little bit beyond the scope of this
video but it's a really cool built-in
feature a hidden feature for a lot of
people and you can pressure friends once
again by letting your computer basically
transcribe everything you tell it so
that's today's video I hope you enjoyed
and I will be doing more quick ones like
this this is mark at Capital Mac service
dot com thank you
