Use a Phone as an Audio Recorder: GoPro Tips and Tricks

In this GoPro tips and tricks video I show how to use your phone as an audio recorder. This will allow you get high quality audio as well as allowing you to place the microphone in a different spot than the camera. At the end of the video I do an audio comparison between the different microphones.

hey guys i'm back with another GoPro
tips and tricks video in this video I'm
going to be showing how you can use your
phone as an external audio recorder for
your GoPro camera or actually any
recording of video that is so what we've
got here as i got my phone samsung
galaxy s3 this works on the iphone or
any kind of smartphone is a way to do it
when you get a on my galaxy my samsung
i'm going to use the voice recorder app
very simple on a an iphone is a couple
other apps you can find I think you have
a memo app and then also if you go in
your App Store there's a couple of great
audio recorder apps for it so check
those out what we do is we just opened
up and we hit record and now this is
going to record our voice while i'm
talking and then I can play back on top
of the video so i can synchronize this
with my gopro audio to use instead of
the GoPro audio now there's a quick tip
here for how to synchronize your audio
properly what i do is i clap once and
that will show up as a spike on the
audio track in my editing software and
then it's really easy to overlay the two
tracks one other thing that's kind of
cool is when using your phone as the
audio recorder you can put in your
headphones and use the microphone your
headphones as the microphone instead of
the microphone on the phone and I'll put
one of these in and i'll make a little
audio clip of it so you can see the the
difference in the audio quality between
using your headphones and using your
phone's microphone
alright so now we've got hooked up are
the standard Samsung headphones that
come with your phone
we have a microphone on them so now i'm
using that as the recorder and you can
see a bit of the difference between
using this as the microphone or the
microphone your phone
also as you can see here I have the two
GoPros recording one of them just out of
the case
between the audio from those two and you
can see the difference between and in
the case in the waterproof housing out
of the case which is that you pretty
good the new audio out of the case is
pretty good you are you on your phone
and then the audio record from onboard
mine now the headphone mic is pretty
useful if you want to like put your
GoPro on something and then do some
commentary and walk around outside of it
and record your voice because as soon as
you travel distances away from your
audio recording device the audio quality
goes pretty bad so just keeping the
whatever you recording the audio close
to the audio source is always a good
idea for high-quality audio thank you
