How to Setup Windows Mail in Windows Vista

welcome to this tutorial for windows
vista in this tutorial we're going to
start looking at windows mail and
Windows Mail allows us to send and
receive email within windows vista
windows mail actually replaces Microsoft
Outlook Express which was included in
previous versions of windows for sending
and receiving email so to begin with we
can actually open up windows mail and
have a look for the first time so if you
want to go to the start button and you
can go to all programs and within the
all programs list you can see within the
windows programs we have windows mail
and once the program loads up you'll see
we presented with the main program
window and on the left-hand side we have
a navigation pane with all the various
folders within windows mail on the right
inside we then have the actual list of
the folders contents in this case an
email from Microsoft Windows Mail team
and below this we actually have the
contents of the mail
we have a toolbar at the top with
various options and above this we have
our menu system
so we can use windows mail to send and
receive email but first of all we
actually have to configure the program
to use an email account if you open this
for the first time you may be prompted
with a dialog box to actually set up
email account and we're going to do so
now using a special account which I've
set up called mr. training so first of
all if you want to go to the Tools menu
and select your left mouse button then
go down to accounts and once more select
with your left mouse button with then
presented with another dialog box called
internet accounts and from here we can
set up email accounts or newsgroup
subscriptions so we have the various
buttons on the right inside which allow
us to add an Accounts removing account
look at the properties imports exports
and set the order to begin with we're
going to add an account so select add
and then asks us which type of account
with lights wide in this case we're
going to add an email accounts but
otherwise you can look at adding a
newsgroup account or directory service
once you're ready you can click next and
then were presented with a text box to
enter a display name and this is the
actual name we're going to use which
will be displayed as the sender for the
email so in this case I'm going to use
the name of Vista Training if you are
setting up windows mail you might want
to use your own personal name after next
weekend then enter the email address
we're going to be using now these
details are going to be defined by your
mail provider and i'm using a account
from google mail but obviously you might
be using a different email accounts so
you'll have to get the details of your
email provider
in my case my account is called Vista
Training 13 at Google mail.com then I
can click next and then I'm presented
with another screen to setup the email
servers
first of all we can set the server type
we have pop3 imap and HTTP i'm going to
use pop3 in this case but obviously you
might have different settings according
to your email provider and the details
i'm going to enter our pop . google
mail.com and for the outgoing email
server smtp name i'm going to add sm TP
. google mail.com I also know that my
server requires authentication so i'm
going to click the checkbox just here
and then click Next then you can see
I've got to have my email username to my
case is Vista Training 13 at Google
mail.com and then my password
and I can click Next and you can see
that it's actually successfully entered
all of the information required to setup
the account so we can click save now and
there's also an option to download the
email or not to download it in this case
i'm not going to download it's time i'm
going to click finish and now you can
see in the list we have my email account
within the mail heading I'm gonna check
one more thing i'm going to look at the
properties of this account and within
the properties you can see the details
for the general information this is some
of the stuff we entered earlier we also
have the tab for servers which contains
details of the service that we entered
the connection security if we're using a
security certificate or encryption and
we have the advanced tab and within the
Advanced tab we have server port numbers
in my particular case I know I'm going
to have to use that particular server
port which is for 65 and check SL and do
the same on the incoming mail and make
sure this number is 995 this was changed
here that back to 465 there we have it i
can now click apply and ok and obviously
if your mail account has slightly
different settings then you'll need to
make sure that you can actually check
the settings before you set up the
account because otherwise the account
might not work so when i'm ready i can
click close and my email account is now
set up so we'll give this a test and the
first thing I can do is actually send an
email to myself and I can do this by
going to create mail
and selecting the type of email and then
we'll put in our to field mr. training
13 subject test to self and then high
and then we can click send and this will
then send the email and you can see we
have one in our outbox and if we click
send and receive you can see there it's
actually sending the mail to actually
validate this and check that we've sent
the email properly what I'm going to
show you is actually log into the google
mail accounts online and show you the
email come through so if we now go to
the internet and using windows internet
explorer i can go to the gmail page and
what i'll do is i'll log into the
account and you can see the email which
i sent using Windows Mail just looking
in and remember the password at this
point you can see there that google mail
is logging in
i'm just using google mail obviously as
an example in this case and you can see
there within the google mail accounts I
have the email from me
test to self that was obviously because
I said the email to myself but if you
were sending or receiving the email from
somebody else
the name here would be different we can
click through and have a look at the
mail
there we go so now we're actually within
Google Mail actually try sending a mail
back to myself within windows mail so if
we click compose we can put our address
in mr. training and I subject and then
we can put our contents and we're ready
we can click send
you can see there's actually been sent
and once the email has been sent will
log out of google mail
go back to windows mail and within
windows mail if we now click send and
receive on the toolbar you can see it's
actually going to the server checking
for a new message and you can see there
we actually have a new message
