Malou: Hi everybody and welcome to Know Your Pc. I'm Malou.
Bob: And I'm Bob, and as you can
see we're still in the Smith house. Now we
just showed in a previous episode how to
create the wireless network.
So now we're going to put some devices on that network.
Malou: One device
being a printer. I'm going to show you
how to add a printer to your wireless
network, and then
we'll print some photos.
Bob: Sounds good. Let's get started.
Malou: Alright, here I go. So right
over here I'm going to show you
how to do that with this. The HP Photosmart C6380.
It's an all-in-one,
which means it's a printer,
a scanner, and a copier.
Alright, so wireless has been around for
a long time and what it means is that
any PC connected to the network can
print
to the printer.
So no longer do you actually need that cable
physically connected between your PC
and the printer.
Now the reason why this one is
so nice is because
it is wireless all on its own.
It does not even need to be connected to
a router
via an ethernet cable so you can put it
anywhere in the house
and print to it, alright?
So I'm going to show you how to use it but before you
actually set it up make sure that you
have your network name
and your pass phrase written down, alright?
Okay, first thing you do is press the Setup
button.
From there you're going to scroll down and you're
going to select Network,
touch OK,
and then you're going to continue to scroll
down to Wireless Setup Wizard. So now
it's searching for the networks.
Okay so then it
has a list of networks right there. I see
ours. It says AP-01.
I will select it, touch OK. Now it's asking
for the password. I wrote it down, and I'm
going to enter that right now.
Alright, so after you enter your
password
go down to Done. The green tab. It's
confirming the settings and you're going to touch
OK to continue.
Now it's attempting to make the network connection.
Success! We're connected to the network.
Alright, so now we can print photos.
Now, with the C6380 you can
print from the memory card, but we want
to print from our PC.
So if you want to do that, you want to
make sure that you load the printer driver.
So that's exactly what we're going to do
right now. I've got the CD.
I'll take these over to Bob.
Okay Bob.
Printer's all set up. There's a driver for you.
Bob: Alright, thank you. I'll install that on the computer
and then
print up a picture.
Alright before I install the printer
driver onto the computer, I need to
establish this computer on our wireless
network that we just set up, alright?
So I'm going to click on the
two computers with and X over them in
the bottom right corner and up will come
connect to a network and I'm going to tap
AP-01 'cause that's the network we
established, and then I'm going to
tap Connect.
It's going to need a security password which I
have written down.
Alright, I'm going to tap connect.
Successfully connected.
Alright. Excellent. So I'm going to close
by pressing tap on close,
I can install a printer driver.
Alright.
Now I'm going to install the CD, label
out,
into the
CD/DVD drive.
A window has come up asking us about
our network, just to let you know that's
not part of the CD,
and I'm going to click on Home 'cause this is part
of our Home network,
and I'm going to click Continue
'cause it needs permission to run that,
and now I will tap Close.
Alright, and just to let you know
most HP TouchSmart PC's run Windows
Vista 64 bit, alright? So if
you're installing your printer drivers
you need to make sure they're
compatible with 64 bit.
The autorun screen has come up.
I'm going to tap on the autorun.
If you don't have a disc to install the
driver on your HP TouchSmart PC,
go to hp.com and you can
download the driver for your printer.
So our home page for the Wizard has
come up,
and it says "Install" so I'm going to tap Install.
Alright, and this'll take a couple
of minutes to install. Make sure you're
around the computer because it's going to ask you,
like this, it's going to prompt you if you
want to continue. I'm going to say Continue.
Make sure you're around so you can
attended to your installation.
This pop up coming up says "Firewall or
anti-spyware software
may show alert dialogues related to this
installation."
Alright so I say okay great, thanks for letting
me know. Next.
Another one comes up. "Select install
option and click Next"
I'm going to click
Easy Install. It's recommended. I recommend
it, HP recommends it. It's recommended.
Here we go. Next.

Alright, so a new screen has popped up on the
computer. It says, "Choose how you will connect
your device to this computer."
"Directly to this computer using USB
cable?" Nope.
"Through the network?" Yes, 'cause we just
installed it and that's what we're trying to
showcase here so I'm going to click
"Through the network" and then click Next.
Alright, so network's set up. Search for
networks is complete, so we're going to click Next.
"Select the type of connection you want
your printer to have with your network."
Well I'm going to choose Wireless
and click Next.
This next page coming up is talking
about the wireless printer which Malou
just walked you through, so I'm gonna click
Next.
So now it's searching for the network
printers, and we should find the one that
Malou just put on the network.
And in fact, here it is.
Photosmart C6300 series.
That's us.
I'm going to highlight that by pressing
over that, and click Next.
Now it's
talking to the printer through the
router, which is awesome. It's saying the
computer but in a router, which is
talking the printer.
It's found the printer and its setup is
successful.
I'm going to press Next.
Alright we're done.
It says "Congratulations. Software
installation complete."
I'm going to press Finish.
Now it's asking me to register. This is not my
computer or my printer. It's the Smiths's, so I'm
gonna ask it to remind me later.
Alright, so now I'm going to finish the
installation process. Go through all
these different screens so we can get to
printing a photo from Malou.
Now that I'm through installing the
printer I'm going to launch the
HP TouchSmart software by
pressing the Home button.
Up comes our HP TouchSmart software.
I'm going to look for photos.
See here? We have photos.
Alright, so now I'm going to
select a photo that we can print.
Alright looks like we've got some fun
photos of the Smith's dogs here.
That's a good one.
This is Cooper, their dog.
And down here it says "Print photos", so
I'm going to press Print.
And up here it's saying that it's
submitting the job and it's going to start
printing over our wireless connection.
Alright Malou, did it print?
Malou: Oh yeah look. Crystal clear. Look at how pretty that is!
Bob: Oh very nice.
Malou: Yeah that looks good. Alright, so we've shown
you how to successfully add a
printer to your wireless network.
Bob: That's right. We've also shown you how to add a
computer to your wireless network.
Malou: So if you have any questions you can always
log on to our website at hp.com/support
I'm Malou.
Bob: And I'm Bob. And this is Cooper. woof woof!
