hey guys it's a fire star 9145 here and
this is going to be a tutorial on how to
make your own animated icons like me
so these animated icons are going to be
for duty and arts and in this tutorial
I'm going to go through two different
ways the first way is like a text icon
like these over here that just have like
I'm the name like a label or of
something popping up and you can put
like a heart or something like that and
then the second way is the blink icons
where there's no text moving or anything
just the characters in the counter all
just blinking place
holiday so for this tutorial or on the
drawing part of this tutorial we're
going to be using Microsoft Paint
so let's start with making the frames of
the icon
so for the basics of this icon the first
thing you're going to have to do is
resize your page so for the icon you're
going to have to be 50 pixels by four
people
so you can just move it from over here
and just make it really kind and you can
just zoom in to get it like that it's
not like annoying because it can get
some enormous make a perfect so just
look down here to see how was like sighs
you're at so we have to make it 15
like that
then 50 on this side to do you act so
once you have that size you're ready to
start adding your drawing
so this time I'm going to be doing the
blink icon
so for the link icon the character we're
going to be doing is this character
right here so I'm this character is
harlow which is a i'm starting to on
deviantart no seat
so this is the character for the link
icon that i'm going to be doing so i
just have it opened in like a tab over
here and and i just have like a little
picture was here just over the reference
so now i'm going to start doing
guidelines for once I know what makes it
was gonna look like i can look at it and
everything
I'm gonna open i'm going to use actually
the 2 i'm gonna use is the pencil tool
I'm going to have to use a smaller size
so this is basically for like the ink so
for one doing animated icons
you don't really need to do a sketch or
anything because it's very like not do
turn it all that like just working off
the ink lines already would be fine
so just like start like doing it stuff
and like trying to get it right
blah blah blah
until it looks right so I'm just gonna
go off and do that and this tutorial not
really too much about what is lying or
anything so I'm kind of not really going
to go into too much so I'm going to come
back once they have you finish lines for
this dry
ok so here you see I have the basic
lines for this
I'm icon and make sure you don't make
anything to detail because this is gonna
end up let me show you what I mean it
will be a school like this big maybe a
bit bigger but you see how if start if
there's too many details like normal
drawings details make it looks really
good
traditional just look over cluttered and
then they won't be able or no one will
be able to see like what it actually is
so make sure you don't like over detail
it just keep it very simple for these
little icons and so I have all the lines
here one thing I'm gonna do is go back
with my right and make sure nothing like
to stick
so you see in some areas like maybe over
here do I want to kind of lighten out
some things like over here too just so
that it doesn't look so like slack like
big black plums
because i don't want to really like do
anything like what you do when you're
inking like make some like I don't want
to do the same technique as if i was
like thinking it normal dry and kind of
like going under shadow areas and stuff
i just kind of keep it like very simple
and I don't want to do any of those
things so I'm kind of going over all the
like take areas and likes me
making them dinner and like making a
line two more here because like you said
it's too cluttered and I want to make a
little clearer and all
so now we have this I'm gonna I'm start
adding in the eyes and the face and
everything and that's probably one of
the hardest part because like a sad you
don't want to look too year
so for these are usually like don't just
do what I would normally do look like
all the rest of it like I just do
whatever makes the lines how I like I'm
actually gonna kind of plot it out
pixel by pixel so like first one pixel
here than one up diagonally another one
up diagonally have made a mistake was
another 1i said anyone across like that
so i actually like planet else so that
and also i do that too so that they're
both needed because this is really
really tiny so you're gonna actually
have to do stuff like this especially if
you want to make a circle or something
like always
like if you're making a circle plan it
out like if you're gonna do it this way
with late
two on each side like that or something
that you can actually plant output by
people how it'll be so that's what I do
for the eyes and then I'm i have the
upper eyelid usually when I do my own
picture icon they don't put the lower
eyelid just after one and then be on my
vaulting I reserve people or whatever so
you can do this you can do this
I'm in many different ways I try to do
it
3d and why do I have a lot of space and
everything and this is gonna be a blink
icon so I'm trying to make sure the eye
is like the right size and everything so
I'm just going to go ahead and add in
all the other knows
well usually four icons to be diagnosed
I think it's ok to add knows but I think
some kind of using a TV style of like
drawing i will add an over just to the
eyes the eyebrows and then the mountain
oh and also click another thing is
always never forget to save your drive
so I'm just gonna save as and um let's
see
I tried to like make sure it's all
sorted out and everything since i'm
gonna have like frames so you have this
folder here for icon frames so I'm just
going to call it but she let me just go
to see how to properly her2
Carlo I i'll just put one since you're
gonna be like same ones and empathic and
i'll probably additions like my base and
then i'll keep shaving ads to create a
new month
I'm gonna save it as a PNG and then save
yeah so never forget to save your
drawing Russell like some problem I
happy and I actually like next to that
we do something weird and then you can't
like get it back so always always save
so yeah I'm just gonna go out and
knowledge details and stuff like i said
before
ok so here you see the final lines for
this
um one thing about this too is I'm not
really going to add the eyebrows yet
because i'm gonna like do them in like
the color of the hair like as in dark
color because i'm gonna i'm at the end
of this I'm gonna I'm color these lines
to like I'm gonna go with the color late
for the skin for this part
I'll probably color like a dark gray
shading color for the skin and stuff so
I'm gonna end up using color line
maybe i'll give you a quick example so
you see like this icon how the inclines
or colored to like the hair the hair
shading colors and stuff like that so
that's what i'm going to end up doing so
want to do that a lot in the eyebrow
so now they have this you I'll just keep
cleaning up your users button
i'm going to start coloring so for the
coloring
i'm just going to use this again like
look at everything if you want to
synthesis paint you can like open this
app and like another
window and like you this dropper tool
and just have to pick out each color so
you have the color like perfectly if you
have a reference line but I'm i think
i'm just going to go off myself and like
sign the colors that are all right in
this one over here so i just go to edit
colors and then I can like find the
right colors and everything so I'm just
gonna find the right colors and add them
over here and then I'll show us how I am
doing the coloring for the cycle
ok so i have the coloring colors for the
hair
so we have one base color one shading a
little bit darker and then even more
dark and then one like highlight color
try not to like girls who details with
this so now I'm first thing I'm gonna do
get my base color fill in all the areas
and with this
I'm pixel fixer like type of icon when
you do all this stuff there's usually
going to be like little squares like you
see here that need to be filled in so be
careful a hat like because you don't
wanna come I usually always end up doing
that were you like accidentally go on
the black nice
so try to like get all the little
squares that are like the left like and
like make sure everything is in the
right color
so now that I've done that and what I'm
going to do this is what I'm one of my
coloring techniques that it's in place
you out
I'm gonna go to color to my base color
in the color tool
select all and then copy and then what
I'm going to do is I'm going to go back
to my color one and just start doing my
shading
so I'm going to use the pencil the same
size first image obviously we got my
light source
maybe this time it'll come from like
right top corner
so I'm just going to start shading
everything like this
and just kind of like her goal for your
trouble but make sure it's not too
detailed
usually go around the past making all
the shading everywhere and they're
trying to make it look good
yeah
doing this with my first layer going in
the back to going on all these strands
so now that I've used my first shading
color is going to go to my next in color
do the same thing except not in as much
of the area so you can still have that
other layer of tone like this
do the same thing to all these other
ones and yeah once and done this
make sure don't like forget anything
so now i'm going to go onto my highlight
talent and just kind of highlight
everything like all the areas where I
want like the lights should be and make
sure you don't do like too many details
for this just going to put like a few .
the girls everywhere like that
and also may be going with some white to
just leave it like a little bit more of
a pop
I'm this depends on like what what's
called here is if it's like a light
color like it is now and I think it's ok
to use like white for highlights but if
it's like a really dark tone than the
white might be like too much and like a
contracting and come on anyway now that
I have this all done
what I'm gonna do is just case and there
you go to make sure again
sometimes if you don't have transparent
election will end up like this and just
like all your she will be gone
so make sure you always have the
transparent selection on and then I'm
you have your i'm coloring for the hair
and it's looking all nice and pretty
you can do it out whenever you want just
to see like how it looks
and yeah I'm just gonna go on color the
whole rest of the thing I'm all use the
exact same technique so i don't really
need to really
watch me anything oh yeah i'll come back
and you guys can see how the cover looks
for this icon
ok I'm just going to show you guys
quickly how I do the blush for these
icons so i have two tones ones like a
lighter paint and then one that's a
little bit more
almost like man I use this is right here
to see this red tones
just use like terms in this type of area
so first thing you do is use my lighter
one and just make like a little time
square shape a rectangle under
I like right by her cheeks and
everything where you want the brush have
to be we can do it on my shoulders and
step two and that i'm going to go on to
my I'm darker one and just do the same
thing except in like less area that are
just going to like another lighter tone
maybe just like a white or just like so
I'll use this light and just put like a
little . like that
and there you go have some like looking
blush and I mean you don't have to put
this . it's like I think it makes it
look more like shiny so I like to use it
yeah that's kind of like the way that I
do for doing like a little blush on
these little icon
ok so now you see it i am i'm done with
the coloring for this
and the only thing I don't have is your
eyes I have no idea what her name is
I guess I should have asked before
I don't know I'm just going to assume
they're brown but anyway I'm you I'm
just gonna like color the outlines now
i'll show you how I do it
so basically i just put black and color
one then the color that I want the
outline to be inherited you
so I'm just going to use
and take this color they're the dark one
just get like another dirty one like
this and then i'll put that in college
you
so now I'm going
eraser tool except the fam going to do
is use it on a right click
I'll make it pretty small so you see
what happens when I do that
so basically the thing in color one is
the color that I'm changing and in color
to is what it's changing too
so I'm just going on black so only the
black step changes nothing else
so I'm just gonna like do that to
everything and I'm be careful with this
because you don't want to like do it on
any other places i'm just doing on the
hair so I'm just going to go through and
do that
that's all I'm icon okay here's how it
looks once I've done all up the coloring
of the outline so i added
I'm her eye coloring too and so yeah
that's basically how it is just going to
save it and so this is basically the
final frame and now what I'm going to do
is start the blank animation
