welcome to piano lesson number five
ok today I'm going to be talking about
sheet music reading notes
we touched a little bit on time
signatures and no values in the previous
lesson
so if you have watched that try to go
check that out this lesson I'm going to
be talking about how all the names on
the stop
not all of them I guess eight or more
but i'm going to get into a basic
general idea how to find the notes on
stop
what different cluster called and
certain things like that
so this is going to be the meat and
potatoes of playing to read the sheet
music
so get ready
it's not about the hard it's pretty easy
alright so the first thing we're going
to do is look at the two types of
collapse because each hand your number
is sort of divided into a clock or
whatever
now this isn't always the case most of
these things i'm telling you are always
true except for the notes on the staff
those are always going to be the same
but like right hand playing the trouble
cloth lot of time playing baseball stuff
like this like different rules might
change because in more advanced stuff
but for right now and for quite far into
the future
I'm just going to give you basic just
this is how has this is how does this is
how
and blood terms so that there's some set
rules and that way it gives you some
sort of like solid foundation to work
okay so Chris thing is these two main
class now there are more but i'm not
going to get into these are the two
basic collapse and you'll probably only
ever use this if you use other ones
it's going to be way down the road
ok so the first one I'm going to look at
here is the trouble flop so it's called
the T ar e be
it's called travel trouble cloth club as
both of these are clubs and it's sort of
like a sign that tells you which
cooperatives and changes the way the
knots are you will see in the matter
ok so the right hand goes to trouble
cloth and the last time goes with the
base cloth
ok so right hand trouble club la base
clock
so the bass clef looks sort of like sort
of almost looks like a year or two .
floating in space of the air or whatever
else you might think
anyway so the base class just has a
little dog big dog here and it's groups
down on two little dots here
ok now the treble clef and to have a dog
goes up this long stone and then swivels
down
ok so trouble trouble clock right hand
base of the left hand so you can do
exercises like to ask your friends
you think you guys can work together
something that you have right now be
like what's the base Club and someone
else left hand and then someone else
well what's the left-handed bass club
so you kind of do you test yourself and
one out or you can test yourself
and so each other ok so that's good bass
clef left hand right hand is trouble
clock that's basically it
those are the two step class wow it's
really amazing
ok now these class have to go on
something so that you know what notes to
play
ok now they have to go on something
called staff
okay stop is comprised of five lines
I should probably written one two three
four five
there's five lines ok always five lines
and there's four spaces
ok so this is the top space that's the
bottom say so
one two three four yeah
now I didn't really write this
particular order so don't ask me why did
you write 1 2 3 4 5 224 hop
I don't know i did that i just did ok ok
so there's four spaces
that's the point of trying to make four
spaces and there's five lines ok now
depending on which class we step like if
I had a taste in thing on my dick and I
stuck there all these note names would
be a certain like all these lines that
have certain no names like if I had a
travel club here this space here would
be an app that be
II but if i took the bass clef and put
it there
this would be an a B and C and G so it
all changes
so these class sort of set the rules for
which notes are where
ok so it's really important that you
have a good concept of what these clocks
do so they basically set the rules for
not stop
ok and they determine a staff by itself
can't tell you what notes are because
the notes are in determining without a
cloth to tell you what they are
does that make sense ok so that's the
classroom now
now let's move on guys so now i'm going
to point out a couple of things here i
have written every all the basic note
names and the same as i go with him to
remember them for the trouble cloth and
the base cloth
now I've written them on something
called the grand staff see this brace
here
that's what it's called it's called the
braids so whenever you see this
that means that they want this and this
together so it's played as one or other
words hands together the right and here
and a lot of time here so whenever these
notes are going to go together if you
don't see the brace and this is all
broken off you and you just see one here
there that means it's one line of music
going to the next line
ok so without this brace this is what
joins its candidate should do that this
one like music instead of two
ok so time goes by the whole thing this
way
so that's called the ground staff it has
to two stops kept together so the right
now
the central point to all of these this
ma'am
which i will explain don't worry is
middle C so middle C is smack dab a
little
so think of this little section here as
a road and then we've got a little all
the central lines of the road you know
how it is broken lines on the road
so think of one the first line as the
middle see all the time
so if you see one line floating in the
middle here
it can be actually up to the top closer
to the treble clef or to the lower down
to the bottom
that doesn't matter also trying to do is
tell you to play middle seat with the
right hand or in plainville CT left hand
that's all they're trying to do so if
you see one line that's the important
thing is one line not two lines or three
lines one line if you see one line and
then the circle of the note going
through it
this is a hole not by the way
I have drawn just be simple . is middle
C all the time and anything above middle
C goes into trouble club anything below
and I'll see goes into the base clock
ok so the middle C is sort of where they
come together in the drawing so it goes
by the alphabet
so as a co op C goes to D which we go to
eat at baby just like that so it bc e G
and a b c d e f g just keeps going up
so the spaces are known and the lines
are not so the the line note here that's
what it's called to the line note the
middle C is on the line up and then do
you would beyond space on because it has
an online it's just in the middle in
between the two line
that's another note that's deep then we
go to e which is on this line and then
asked which is on the space and then you
go to the next line that's G and then we
go to the next place and that's a and it
goes up and up . and if you go down
you're going backwards in the alphabet
so this way forward in the alphabet this
we're going backwards in the alphabet
so this would be g.e.d see
so we're a little see now below that one
backwards to be a and then g.e.d see it
just keeps going down down down down
ok so that's the sort of works now if
you actually took this whole thing and
you turn it this way it actually makes
more sense
ok watch this this goes with my right
hand and this goes with my left hand as
i go this way
I go up on the piano because this is one
key
this would be the next key that Ben

popping down like that and this is my
right hand and this is my left hand
so as I go right I'll go up and left to
go down
so that's an easy way to look at it and
to make sense of that music could be
simply was like those but some guy like
you know 500 years ago I decided let's
do this way and five of them using very
loosely
ok so think of it like that
okay you can turn your music that way
check it out I suggest you do that
access pretty good access and is ok but
where you actually look music okay all
right so just keep that in mind opposite
to the right down to the left
alright so now the first thing you want
to do is memorize once you know the keys
so this middle see here is going to be
the middle C on the piano now
so you want to play this up here it
would just be the first half about
middle C which would be
that
if you're going to play this ge Randy
the fish eagle almost this is a sea as
well so maybe the first see below
there
okay so you just have to sort of look at
it that way
now we have little sayings or have a
little saying that that we basically use
to figure to remember how these things
were so so now we're going to do saenz
so saying the fruit of the same for the
spaces in the right hand with the
trouble cloth the spaces actually spell
out the word face1 face1 she can
remember face face the spaces then I
don't know how to do this
what am i doing like milking a cow
anyway so
AC e that's how that works so that's not
how you remember in the spaces in the
problem pops just remember face faaaace
so it just goes pop and I always like
okay so that those are the spaces for
the trouble
now the spaces for the base cloth
unfortunately a see EG doesn't spell or
where it would be like a scar which
doesn't make any sense
so this little saying that is
I didn't invent it I have no idea dead
I don't think its own record for dead so
yeah
how do I so it goes by the name
about the same all for a cow's foresee
eat for e and g for grass organizations
and grass Rajee
so it's all cows eat grass move
I tell my students have this little girl
and she couldn't remember it and then
I'm like all cows eat rocks and music
I kind of don't eat rocks to eat grass
good so remember that it's all kind of
grass and after that she seemed to be
able to remember because they have made
this really weird mental image in my
mind of has trained rocks out , I don't
know that really wouldn't work to all
the digestive system and I wouldn't
really want to see that coming out on
the other end of the hall
ok ok so all cows eat grass
that's that's basically how you remember
the spaces
now what you want to do first is you
test yourself on the veins
first we ask yourself ok we're going to
space is the basically one of the spaces
for the trouble cloth
once you know those then you actually
want to go and you want to memorize like
one or two so that you know as soon as
you look at it you instantly know that
the notes so you don't have to count up
or down but this is like a fail-safe
mechanism that you can always rely on
ok that's how this works so you just
always rely on this and that's how it's
going to work
so learn this first and then you want to
memorization out so you can let you
could do three a day and then what
probably within a week or two you have
every single low-rise so it really
doesn't take long
like I have kids knowing all
it's no names and about a week or two
and they can they can figure it out
themselves and then it takes maybe a
month or so and then get fast fast
ok so you can do flash cards and you can
do these flash cards on the Internet
I think there's a channel nine years
other different sites that you can go to
the allow you to do flash cards or you
can go buy some
now those are the spaces for you cloth
so spaces for trouble is face and spaces
for bass cloth as all kinds of graphs
now the lines for the trouble cloth go
like this

ok last thing that we have to do is it's
going to be something called ledger
lines
ok now you'll probably see this soon
music they come they come out pretty
often and people get scared for a moment
and there's really no reason to think of
a ledger line as someone taking a ladder
to extend something like say about this
room here for our house and you just
took a lot of you want to get to another
floor or something like that
I guess that doesn't even make any
sounds I guess it's too late
sometimes the truth really sweet and
yeah
ok so I just laugh and play to go
I'm doing so I couldn't just get up
early in the morning

anyway ok so a lot of your line is an
extension
so as you can see so say we got AC e
and then there's aa and then after the
top line
ok so how high up is that so
that's up that is that one pass the fish
sea and I got up and that would be
stopped now as you can see
that's not all the keys in the panel is
a stall
so where do we get them out well they're
not as commonly played so we don't use
we don't draw all the lines unless we're
actually going to use them
so there's ledger lines they are just
lines a floating in space and it
basically this line here is almost as if
there's a whole line out onto it
you just can't keep counting up and you
can place it up in between
ok so the hard part about the instance
they're just floating there
people can have a hard time reading and
usually have to count up to memorize to
figure out what you are and i still have
to count on
if they're really high they're really
high notes i have to count up
I'm like man County alone because it
I just haven't bothered to memorize the
ones that are way way up there because
you hardly ever sees them
ok now these ones though the first three
are worth memorizing because one it's
easy to memorize and to their used quite
often usually won't see anything costs
the second ledger line sometimes you'll
see the third ledger line and are rarely
but still not that i often you'll see
like the fourth and the fifth load your
lines but usually nothing past that
ok so what you want to do is you want to
just remember this pattern
ace acee ok so ace think of them as like
cases is there like a fighter pilot
basis and I'm just like me
Roger Bravo we're going to go
one for the bombing on now oh we've got
a dog back on
anyway so just think of them as like
flyers their aces
now there in the sky or whatever right
they're not just whatever they're just
up there floating
so a te pase ok now what you're going to
do is the ace comes it just lines this
way and you're going to get a first and
then see and then e so c is in the
middle
this is the important i'm ok c is in the
middle
now look down here I don't know can you
see that
haha
so you can do any way down here
ok so down here it's a SI è but which
one comes first is the first ledger line
here and the a is the first time here
the sea is the second here and see is
the second on there so anytime there's
two ledger lines in either direction the
second one is c so use that as your kind
of home base
always remember a second legend - see
ok this one's a so what you can do is
you can just take these first three
chunks and just remember that either way
it's always in that order but from here
the top ones
so the top part of aces attached to the
trouble of the base cloth and up here
the bottom part of attach the trouble
club so it's the same pattern but it's
just me
okay that's that's it ok so that is my
lesson on reading sheet music
so what I want you to do learn all these
note names to the phrases and everything
and just remember that these are the
ledger lines
this is called stop together it's called
the grand staff
this is a trouble cloth this is a bass
clef the right hand plays this one a lot
of time plays this one
this is middle C this is where the
staffs and joining up and you can
actually find the ledger lines in the
middle as well so that if you wanted to
see down
they wanted a left-hand person likes you
find stuff away
I they want the left hand to play like
this past year
what they'll do is they'll draw one line
the middle seat
another line through this line and the
10 on top . and i'll be stretching into
here but it's actually written as a line
and then another ledger line which would
actually just be this line and then i'll
just put up as it was there
ok anyway hopefully that's all helpful
so study this really well and i'll take
another picture this as well and you
guys can dissect it and practice that ok
it doesn't take very long if you're
willing to just focus on and really get
it land
ok doesn't take longer than
two weeks two weeks you'll have it and
you'll not okay
