I got my name's and forensic and i'm
going to be teaching you free music
theory smaller of this is completely one
hundred percent completely free
in-depth music theory course that I am
pretty not just because i would like to
expand the general music community
online and will not just online but
throughout the whole world to people
that don't have access to music theory
lessons or they can afford them or they
live in a small city and I can't you
know have access to them so what i've
done as i have been playing counter for
18 years and I play various well I play
ocarina and also a little bit of violin
and I've been studying music theory
since I was about eight years old so i
decided to put on basically a free music
theory of course I already have a free
how to play piano course and there's
some theory involving not but it's not
very in depth and what I wanted to do is
just have a pure theory course where
it's only theory so it can apply to
piano players violin plays flute cello
singers guitar bass guitar drums anyone
that's played an instrument in anything
music theory applies because basically
music is a music series basically like
learning the language or like kind of
like the ground
music it's itself like music
you've got what you listen to but if you
don't know
music theory behind it it makes it very
hard to create your own songs or if you
want to know a little bit more what's
going on
behind the scenes in the music that
you're listening to so that you can look
just listen to something going oh I
really like that and then you're like oh
well I know that this does this and you
know like it's using this chord
progression or its using this harmonic
powder and using this cadence or
whatever so all these different things
that are coming up
or maybe like the structure of the song
if you like music here you can learn
those parts and then basically use it to
create your music
it's kind of like learning like if you
study English or any other language if
you study the grammar to it then it will
make writing a story a lot easier for
novelist vs if you just know how to
speak a little bit you know
so how those are some of the benefits
music theory a few other ones would be
that it was really good for your brain
and no people that they study music
theory and whoa
they're like really really really sharp
their brains are just like as sharp as
like the really really fine little edge
of a knife is so sharp
actually no that's how old older lady
who's a piano teacher but you mainly
teaches theory and she is a grandma
I'm not going to rename because I don't
wanna embarrass her anything
like that but she can cheese topped
theory and she is so smart
like she's all like she's older and
she's a grandma but you can seriously
probably think faster and more clearly
than I count that's all that's a good
theory is for you
so if I got you interested in that
this video isn't gonna show as much
content because i'm doing an
introduction also but the other videos
will go straight into what we're going
to be teaching so first up I'm going to
have basically i'm going to go through
everything show you how to do it and
then at the end of the lesson i'm going
to give you homework that you're going
to do so there's gonna be like a little
homework time but on your so yeah
homework will be assigned at the end and
then each lesson is not going to be too
much to chew on all at once
it's going to start very very very basic
like we're going to go right to the very
beginning so if you are absolute
beginner and you have never taken
through ever ever ever nothing you can
do this you can literally sit here you
can watch the videos and you'll have
everything you need all that you need to
learn this is an internet connection
these videos of course and all you need
at home is a pencil a ruler and a racer
and some paper to draw on
so you have those sent and the will to
do this and you basically set to go
I'm even probably going to send some of
the students that I teach on a regular
basis to watch these videos so that they
can learn the theory so that I don't
have to keep teaching and over and over
again
yeah so if you want my students already
pay attention
ok anyway now that we've got all that
cleared out of the way i would like to
begin with the very basics so let's take
it away
ok so the very first thing that we need
to learn
is going to be called the stop now
you aren't going to be hired anywhere
you don't have to be a staff of anything
this is all the days it's literally five
lines
we got one two three four I know I know
I have a reading this I so one in
essence there's five lines so all you
have to do is take your ruler
I'm going to lay it out like that and
draw a line and put a spade like leave
enough room here and then draw another
line have a big experience draw another
line
I love love one you have five lines then
we're going to do is I want you to do I
want to copy what I've written here on a
sheet of paper and you're going to call
it
this is the staff stf up and you're
going to put the numbers up this way and
i also want you to come the spaces there
are four up
so that's the first time so i had to
memorize this
this is the stop four spaces five lines
got up
ok let's move on alright so now the next
thing we're going to do is we need to
know what
basically what I'm teaching you is sheet
music so the first thing you taught you
with the staff
now that's where all of our notes are
written on now we'll get into that later
but just follow my piece here
ok these are the building blocks so the
next thing we need are we need to learn
what a bar line
so this is a bottom line it's literally
just gone along with the staff and boom
this little line
ok we use the bar lines to kind of
separate the music into areas that are
manageable
because if you have the super long piece
and there's no lines and how do you know
where to go
well ok mejor 46.7 inches across
on page five you know you'd have to like
it be just ridiculous
so we use lines and we call them bars so
from one by line to another is called a
measure or sometimes we just refer to it
as a bar basically you know one bar so
in between those two bars that sounds a
little confusing so just think of it as
a measure
ok now at the end of every piece we have
something called a double bar line that
shows you that it's finished you can
take a break
grab a coffee or just coming up
ok anyway or in some cases sweat four
feet profusely and pass out on stage
like some instant musicians have done it
anywhere
so double bottom line by line cat I
wanted to draw this up
copy it have this all of these things
are going to keep I want you to write
them out so that you'll remember it
better and you have notes to study from
after
ok so that's that next let's move on all
right guys
the next thing we have to do is learn to
cloth
okay now you're even going to be using a
treble clef for bass clef to pay and
what instrument you're playing some
instrument will be using both but if you
just using a solo like a your vocal your
vocalist you could be using either one
or violence will probably be using
trouble club where is like you know
double bass is probably going to be
using a base cloth so i'm going to show
you guys both now we're not going to go
over what we're using them for it's just
basic information
I want you to learn how to draw them and
the names of thumb that's all
ok so first up we're going to do trouble
club this is a hard one to draw so this
just drawing five little lines but this
isn't . obviously just three reasons
so you can see it so you're going to
start off with a little dog here you're
going to put a little . underneath so
put a dog
now you're going to loop it down and
then go straight up
that's ladies first you're going to go
up past here
next thing you're going to have to do is
you draw it a lot . there while you draw
the . go straight up
now what you do is you hold your pen
here and you get a loop backwards to the
right and go down back the way you're
coming but this time it's going to oak
shape over this way and it's going to
cross on the second line from the top so
it is up and crosses on the second line
from the top and then just let it stop
there
now it's going to crap no at step three
you go up
loop over now as you do this you're
going to go diagonally so we're going to
45 degree angle and then you're going to
come and loop around so that you level
off and you come parallel and you
actually touch the bottom line here
ok to loop it it's almost like drawing a
two-year look like the look number two
and then to finish it off so you drive .
go straight up
loop it over cross on the second line
bring it back down and when it touches
here then you're going to bring it up
and touch it to the the third line so
one two three
so the third line and then make its
perks file around and you can
add a little dog or you can make it just
kind of come in and then that's the
trouble club
so remember that trouble cloth and I
want you to draw us out at least five or
ten times it's a cat with my practice to
get better at it
just follow those steps and you should
be fine and the base cloth super easy
all you do is you take the second top
line here
so 1 2 3 4 line before Joe a little .
and then bring it around the top touch
the top line and then bring it down and
end the tail right in the middle of the
space on the last space on the bottom
and then here
step 3 1 . here and one . here the two
top spaces
I don't want to each and thats it thats
base cloth so trouble cloth base cloth
and there you go
whoo okay let's move along now finally
putting it all together encounter music
you'll see this a lot but another
instruments you probably won't in vocal
music or whatever but I have to cover
this
this is called the grand stop the grand
stuff
now what it is it's a combination of
trouble club on a base Club put together
using one unified cloth or stuff
together so see this grace right here
that's the squiggly line thing right
there
it shows that you play these two clubs
together as one
so both of these are together you played
hands together on piano and or other
instruments you might have to play too
but basically you have a line in the
middle here and no to keep going up like
this
I'm going to have a note there you go
out there but we're going to get into
that after later lessons I just want you
to be familiar with this first and get
used to drive it and then we've got a
double bar line here
based off of trouble cloth so I want you
to basically draw this as well and copy
the way I have it and then you get
so your homework for the lesson and if
you're not going to do this you can skip
over it but until you feel comfortable
and you know what you're doing your
homework is to draw at least 20 grand
stops so that includes trouble cloth
base cloth both stops the brakes with a
line going down in the front and a bar
line and a double bar at the end and
that's I want you to drop 20 of those on
pieces of paper
ok take care I'll see you guys next time

UPDATE: Hello, this is Present Day Michael. I would like to point out that Past Michael chose his words poorly when he said "this chord doesn't work", and that statement has led to much anger and confusion throughout the eons (well since 2011 anyway). What he SHOULD have said was "by moving notes closer together than a minor third or farther apart than a major third, you're creating an entirely new chord that you're almost definitely not expecting, and you should watch this video ...

h4 Practice Free with TrainEar.com: http://www.trainear.com/ -p Apparently there's some kind of misconception from some saying guessing and checking on actual songs is better. Training interval identification in a coordinated way lets you get this ability infinitely faster. Associating intervals will be slower than guess and check only in the beginning. #4 Music theory: Note values and time signatures

A music theory tutorial on time signatures and Note values. When I started this channel in 2006, I decided NOT to teach song tutorials, since there was no viable way for me to teach every possible piece by myself and still be sane. My approach to this channel is to teach you the skills and concepts of piano so you can grow as a musician and learn any piece you wish. But both you and I know that the main reason we put so much hard work into learning the concepts of piano is so that we ...
