Shows how to convert from one currency to another in Microsoft Excel.

in this exercise i would like to show
you how to convert one currency into
another first of all i'm going to create
a column for my UK current see my GP i'm
just going to put in a couple of values
here and then i'm going to put in my USD
exchange right now I just looked up the
exchange right and as of the time of
recording it was one dollar 56 to the
pound
so I'm going to put the 1.56 in the cell
here now in order to do the count
calculation i just need to multiply the
value in GBP by the US dollar exchange
right so i put in equals a 3 x be too as
I hit return you can see that's given me
the right answer the snag with this one
will come when I tried to copy this down
to the other cells can you see 20 pounds
at one point 56 is not going to give me
312 something funny's going on here and
I left her little look at the formula i
can show you what's happening in exhale
by default you get something called ref
their relative referencing which
basically means as you copy a formula
Excel automatically adjust the cell
reference for you
solo I put the formula in as a tree as
I've copied it down to the next row it's
now 84 and I put the formulas be too as
I moved it down is now looking at e3
which is obviously not the correct value
it should still be looking and it would
be to sell now there's a couple of ways
around this you could use something
called an absolute reference or you can
use something called a named range and
then this exercise I want to use a named
range i'm going to call cell b2 USDA and
all i need to do is type in this little
box here is your name box whatever you
want to call your cell and don't forget
to hit return and can you see I've now
got the word USD be sitting in this
little name box now I can use that as
part of my formula so i can say a 3 x
USD as I copy this down
it should use the named range all the
way down a four-times u-s-d-a five times
USD and so on so if the exchange rate
with water train all i need to do is put
in the new value at the top and the
entire column would update the only
thing I other thing I'd like to show you
what we're here is just to show these in
the correct current says so I'm going to
just highlight my GP column there and on
the home button there's an accounting
format button now because i'm in the UK
the accounting format for the UK gives
you a pound sign and and two decimal
places if you wanted to format the USD
column will need to do is choose a
little downward arrow next to the part
of gold coins and there's an English us
option which gives me a dollar sign and
