Hello, and welcome back. I'm Joseph Hoffman.
Today we're going to do a rhythm game with
the new rhythm that we learned
last time when we learned "Dinah".
Do you remember the name of that rhythm? It
looks like this.
They are called four sixteenth notes
and they make a sound like this: TIKI-TIKI.
We're going to do a game where I hide this
rhythm somewhere
in a group of four beats, and your job is
to find where the TIKI-TIKI is
and also to draw the other rhythms as well.
To play this game at home, it will probably
work best if you
download the printable rhythm cards from our
website.
Then you'll be able to play this game.
Okay what I'm going to do is say a rhythm
while I touch each beat.
If you could point to the beats with me, and
then try to
figure out which beat had the TIKI-TIKI in
it.
Here we go.
[Speaking rhythms]
Point to the beat that had TIKI-TIKI in it.
Here's the rhythm one more time.
[Speaking rhythms]
If you're pointing to this beat, you are correct.
Now, see if you can figure out which rhythms
go in the other beats.
Here is the rhythm one more time.
[Speaking rhythms]
Now if you have these cards at home,
you can draw the rhythm that you hear yourself.
So if you have the cards, try to put the four
cards in order
based on what you've heard.
And while you do that, I'll draw the answer
on the screen.
So don't look at the screen until you're ready
to see the answer.
If you're still working on it, you can always
pause.
Here's the correct answer.
Let's try saying the rhythm words together.
I'll do it once by myself, then we'll try
it together.
TA TI-TI TIKI-TIKI TA.
Now let's say it together. Touch each beat,
or point to each beat, and say it with me.
TA TI-TI TIKI-TIKI TA.
Good. Now try clapping that rhythm.
Here we go. TA TI-TI TIKI-TIKI TA.
Great job. Now let's try another one.
Where is the TIKI-TIKI going to hide this
time?
[Speaking rhythms]
Here it is again.
[Speaking rhythms]
Point to the beat where you heard TIKI-TIKI.
If you're pointing here, you are correct.
Now with your cards at home, try to draw the
rhythm in the correct order.
If you need extra time press pause.
I'm going to be drawing the correct answer
on the screen.
Here is the correct answer.
Can you point to each beat and speak it with
me?
Here we go. TA TIKI-TIKI TI-TI TA.
Can you do it by yourself?
Your turn. Go.
Good. Let's try one more.
This time to make it extra tricky, I'm going
to hide two TIKI-TIKI's somewhere.
You'll have to point to two beats.
This time, I laid the cards out already, and
as you get it correct and figure
out the rhythm, we'll flip them over to see
if you're right.
Here's the rhythm this time. Touch or point
to each beat with me.
[Speaking rhythms]
Where did you hear TIKI-TIKI?
If you're pointing to this beat and this beat,
you are correct.
What rhythm did you hear inside these beats?
Listen one more time.
[Speaking rhythms]
If you said a quarter note, or one sound,
you are correct.
Good job. Now, can you speak this rhythm with
me?
I'll do it once, then it's your turn.
My turn first. TIKI-TIKI TA TIKI-TIKI TA.
Now you try. Ready go.
Nice work today. Thanks for playing this rhythm
game.
From our website, you can download these cards
so you can try it at home.
Also try making up your own rhythms with the
cards.
Invent new rhythms that no one's ever done
before,
and then try speaking your rhythm while you
touch each card to keep the steady beat.
Thanks for watching, I'll see you next time.
