Barcodes that actually work in Excel !!

If you don't have excel and you want to use this, you still can!!! When you go to the google drive download link you can use "open in google sheets" option at the top left although you will have to fix the fonts back to code 128a most likely because Google owns a
different set of fonts than Excel does.

this is where all the codes for 128 a,b and c are, so you can copy them or reference them like I did.

For those of you wondering why I am posting this kind of video: it's because I had such trouble figuring out how to do this on my own and I wanted to save you folks the time and effort of doing all the research if for some reason you had a use for the workbook.

ok today I'm going to show you how to
make a bar code in Excel and the reason
I'm putting this up is that I couldn't
find it anywhere else on the Internet
I mean at least explain to a layman so
say you're at work
the only tools you have available to
make you pee Cee's would be something
like Excel like say you're not allowed
to download certain programs or for the
reason you're you want excel to do it or
you're restricted to using Excel lonely
ok so basically you can take whatever
number and use the font whatever font
and just highlight like 1 2 3 4 5 6 here
see this and then it won't turn out
looking like the real thing and that's
because a real bar code and bar code 128
which is the probably most commonly used
market out there it is an equation so if
you're a guy not actually entering an
equation it's not gonna work
okay and here's how it breaks down
basically you have a cell where you put
your information when translated this is
the end result and in between is the
formulas and it's broken down like this
you take each digit out using the mid
function so you put equals M ID and in
parentheses you put a 1 comma 1 comma 1
this 1 b , - , one
ok so you're breaking it down into each
digit from this
so they land in their cells and then in
this column the green column
you're taking values that you're looking
up off of this chart and you can get
this chart or you can piece it together
from wikipedia look up bar codes and
then the information
almost all the way down at the bottom of
the page has a chart that shows
everything and i'll give you the link to
this underneath in the description of
the video
ok so
you're doing equals we look up and then
for for this one you find the value and
then it prints it here
ok so the value of 1 equals 17 right and
so the value to is 18 the value of 3 is
19 and so on
it takes whatever numbers here and find
out the value on the chart
okay here in the red column is where the
equation really starts it
f1 is is going to say equals B 1 times 1
ok so it's the first position x 1 the
second position x 2 x 3 x 4 x 5 x 66 e
18 x 2 36 right
pretty simple then you add them up all
at the bottom and you also add 103 that
is its magical number that they make you
use for a code 128
a ok once that's all added up
he used the mod function in the purple
sell and what it really is is it says
something like equals mod and then it'll
reference this cell and they'll say ,
one of three so 530 / 103 get you
something but the remainder is what you
want and it's 15
ok and in the next one
it looks up 15 give you this
it looks at up off of this chart see 15
is equal to the value of character for /
or whatever it is
ok and in the last box is your end
result written in text
ok so it's a the assembly of all the
bitchy TVs arms are getting tired here
so that funky looking d at the beginning
is your Start character and that funky
oh you see at the end is your stopping
character just before the stopping
character is your check character in
this case it's a backslash so it goes
funky d 1 2 3 4 5 6 check character
backslash and then the funky 0 which is
your ending digit
ok this gets pulled back over to be one
ok and then you just change the font to
128 and will translate that into a font
128 and it'll actually function this
time when you scan it and you can check
the function of the UPC by downloading a
barcode scanner app to your phone or
using whatever laser scanner you have
available
ok so basically it pulls it out of here
puts it through the whole formula gets
us a result and we go back here and it's
it's formatted like size 36 at least
font and a bar code 128
but you know there's a hundred different
fonts available in Excel like
cabs early or whatever the hell they
call it and highway that highway Cena
has all that funky you need like cursive
in there
well that font is in there with the rest
of them believe it or not and it's
called code 128
so we have to touch on this chart real
quick first not to let my arms rest
already
I'm back and my arms are all rested up
boy they were burning
ok so basically what you have here is a
chart that when i started out just had
these two columns and I pulled this off
of Wikipedia and those links going to be
below and you can see it has a numbers
numbering system
this is the value ok
and this is the character this set here
is the same thing as that one except for
when it's over here is formatted in the
text
ok and it needs to be manually typed in
back matter of fact most of these
characters will need to manually typed
in and each category will have to be
formatted to either
I think this one might be general number
format and this might be text and I
think you still need to type these in
and do this hall is a text and this is
the table in which we were talking about
earlier that you look up values from so
let me get the metals
alright and we'll kind of go down
through here you see you get all the way
I mean has everything it has small small
case uppercase all kind of different
characters that you're going to run into
ok lowercase uppercase and all the
little characters then down here
it has some really funky stuff and you
gotta watch this this this bottom part
of my charger is the key to this thing
working because with the stuff on the
internet yet the piece all the
information together to get this
these are a i believe it's called a s
e to the X font characters so this is
like a character i believe - 08 and this
is character - 11:00 you think they
would go on order
but when they hit somewhere around right
here they go out of order
ok and you really need to pay attention
to what i have at the end of this chart
okay otherwise your stuff so I'm going
to work now this whole this whole thing
here is going to be available for
downloading in a slightly different look
I'll put it in my know what do you call
that google has a download a place where
you can put stuff for other people to
download
I forget what it's called at the moment
i'll put an annotation and when I
figured that out but I'm gonna send you
a link to where you can download my
version of this for free
it's not going to cost you saying and
then you can take it to work and modify
it and get in trouble with it however
you like but i'll make it available
ok so you'll be able to paste like from
a a 1 all the way down to 8 50 and then
down on this new one you'll go down to
the bottom here there will be an extra
sheet probably and on that page will be
nothing but you pcs
ok so you can do like 50 UPC's and then
it will have all the formulas and I
might even highlight it like this and I
definitely have the chart so you won't
have to format anything if you want to
do this the hard way you can but you're
definitely going to need a working model
to work off over you're going to get
really aggravated it took me a couple
weeks to assemble this from a little
that's the information found on the
internet and see in the end what the
advantage to this is is that you've got
it in Excel and it works well and now
you can manipulate it for other things
ok and if you use a bar code generator
off the internet
then you go to go to the trouble of
making a report a and then exporting it
to excel and then you have what you want
but in the end for an Excel user having
all the formulas and the whole chart
everything embedded right there in a
workbook is gonna end up being better
for you i mean if he uses that working
on what I'm talking about
and as far as being honest goes
honestly i think you could probably use
this to 4g pcs that you wanted to use at
walmart I'm hoping none of you are or
that dishonest going to the self
checkout and using my little Excel
program to steal shit but a so govern
yourselves i'm not telling you to stay
out of trouble but if you get caught
don't don't blame me asshole
and this is this is not mostly meant for
like a workplace people that don't have
programs available to them to make bar
codes or maybe you're a small business
and you wanted to have your own barcode
system for inventory here
