Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Tips & Tricks Ep. 73: Screen Recorder Alternatives, Video Capture on Unrooted

*Note 2 Tips & Tricks Table of Contents: http://tinyurl.com/b64yfs2
Screen recorder was a function that was shown to us by Samsung, but unfortunately, it never made it on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. There have been apps you can install that let you do this if you were rooted/hacked, but now here is a way to enable screen recording (aka video capture) on you Galaxy Note 2. The app is called ASC by BENZUL. The sound recording doesn't work on my device, and it is a bit of a hassle to unlock every time I reboot the device, and it may not be for all applications such as recording high frame rates or video that has a lot of movement on the entire screen all the time, but I am happy to see that this app is a very solid performing app, and there is room for improvement.

hello everyone Michael here with the
daily note 2 youtube channel and welcome to
another episode today I want to show you
alternatives for the screen recorder
function which is a feature that never
officially arrived on the samsung
galaxy note 2
what is screen recorder
basically it would work like this
if you hell the home button and the
volume up you would've got
something like a video capture
off your samsung galaxy note 2
you may have even seen samsung's
tutorial on how to do
the screen recorder function on youtube
unfortunately for reasons
we can only guess
the feature was fold a day after launch
I read some forms of a guy getting
a response from samsung saying they're
still working on the feature with no
estimated time of arrival now if you
had rooted or hacked galaxy note 2
there have been apps that gave
you this functionality
but finally it looks like there is an
app that let you do this without
requiring root so you can do this on
any samsung galaxy note 2 but it's not
perfect so i wanted to show you the app
just in case you have a use for it
despite all the limitations
the app is free to download
and it's called ASC
the app isn't free however if you want to
record more than 20 seconds you
have to pay for it
also you do need to do this thing called
activation every time you reboot your
device it is a pretty painless process
but it is a hassle to do every time
you reboot your device I walked though
that process in just a minute
before we get started make sure
you download the app and uninstall it
but before you start up the app
go to your menu
go to settings
we're going to turn on developer options
go to developer options
click on the enable button
put a check on usb debugging
after that let's open the app
let's run the service
now it seems that we have a unrooted
galaxy note 2 which is what most of you
have
let's click on the activate button
we need to also attach a usb cable
that is attached to your computer
so let's go to the computer
now your galaxy note 2 is activated for
screen recording you could detach the usb
cable
and you can see that the service is running
service
but he happened to restart your galaxy note 2
you will have to reactivate it
by attaching the usb cable running that
small program that we installed on your
desktop
and clicking on the activation button
it takes few seconds so before we do
any recording you could see the features
here or the settings you can see that
i have it on the high setting here
there are these other settings
but i think high is the best when you do
custom
it lets you prank up the FPS 21
but it says recorded
or reduce FPS recorded video runs too fast
that is actually the case so
find that high works the best
if you're doing any kinda
demo here you might want to check this
because it registers your screen taps
about showing a little dot on screen so
people can follow here video
and then here
you could set if you want to capture sound
but unfortunately this doesn't
work
we will just leave it on
just for the purposes
of this demo
and i'll show you does not capture sound
hoply that's the bug out
fix in the future
let's click on the home button
you could see that there is an icon
where there is a little tool floating here
and you could see that
the one on top is to preview the videos that
you've recorded on the bottom left is
take a snapshot
and bottom right is capture video
let's capture some video
and you could see that there's a red
rec button if you press it again
it stops recording so we will pass it
after we're done
so let's do a simple animation here
I'm going to draw
a person
and the best detail i know how
let's click on the stop recording button
I also want to record a second video
but this time I'm going to force my
video to start recording and portrait mode
a way you can do that is to use a free app
called rotation locker
and when you
long press on the auto button
it gives you this
this thing listens to your orientation
sensor all the time
I'm just going to start the recording
process
and it will start up a little differently
we'll just record the transitions here
maybe I'll go through my apps
to show you what they look like
you could also see that
there's a
circular dot that falls my finger
let's check out the video capture that
we've recorded
clicking on this button on the top
and let's check out the first video first
so even though it recorded 720p video
it's giving you these
big black bars
and also another thing you should know
is even though we enabled this
feature where it shows a circular dot
when you're
typing on the screen
it does not work with the S pen
so that's just something to keep in mind
that was expected though
so i would say for drawing

probably it works really well because
even though it's recording at very
low bit rates
there really isn't too much
movement there
but here's
the second video that we've shot
you could see the screen is moving and
here you can see that there are many
artifacts on the screen
until key frame comes in
some video is really clear because
that's where the key frame was
a lot of the video really has
many artifacts on there
because
it is a very low video that it captured
I wanna show you two more examples
just in case you're thinking of using it
for these
bector which is a game where it has
a static background that scrolls
and asphalt seven is a 3D game or the
background or the entire picture
always changes
let's check out the video that we've recorded
let's check out asphalt first
so you will see that
frame rate is not going to be
probably to your liking here and also
the artefacts that's probably more of a
problem
it is not meant for this kind of application
if you plan on posting this video
on youtube
like gmae playing on youtube you'll
probably get many complaints saying that
your recording with something like a potato
it's not for this use
let's go to the
other video that we've recorded
again you still have the artifact problems
but since the colors remain
relatively same and
it's not changing 100% of the times
the screen
it is
not bad so maybe for
this type of use
you
may be able to use it but for definitely
if you're planning on drawing something
it absolutely works
if you're doing any kind of like
office demo it probably will
work as well but
it probably won't
work for gaming so anyway that's the end of
this video I'll attach the vidoe samples
that we've recorded to end of this video
and if you haven't been to my channel yet
please check out my hundred plus videos
on the samsung galaxy note 2
if you haven't subscribed yet
please subscribe
because I try to creat a video everyday
so that you could get most out of galaxy note 2
with that said
I know I've been lagging a little bit behind
it is because
I moved but unfortunately the new
setting here is not convenient to shot the
video
so i'm trying to do something about it but
i'm trying to still get these videos out
when i can
so anyway thank you for watching
