Origami Magic Ball (Kade Chan) - Part 4
Difficulty: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (High Intermediate)
This video demonstrates how to fold an Origami Magic Ball designed by Kade Chan. This is one of the most well known origami models on YouTube, however not many of the tutorials went into great detail on how to fold each part. This video will explain each part of the Magic Ball in a very detailed manner. I hope you enjoy the videos, and if you have any questions about the magic ball, please comment below or send me a message! Thanks for watching!
Videos uploaded of your completed magic ball are greatly appreciated!

FAQ:
Q: Can I use A4 (printer paper) to fold the magic ball?
A: Yes, but you will have to cut it (since A4 has the dimensions of 8.5" x 11", which is not 1:2 ratio). To make the largest rectangle from a sheet of A4, cut the paper to the dimensions of 11" x 5.5." If this is your first time folding the magic ball, however, I would not recommend using paper this size. See the next question for information on how to purchase larger paper.
---------
Q: I do not have paper that is 20cm x 40cm or larger. Where can I purchase such large paper?
A: Kraft paper is a cheap type of paper that typically comes in large rolls. It can be purchased in practically any office or arts and crafts store, and it is relatively inexpensive. Some popular stores which sell kraft paper include: OfficeMax, Staples, etc. You can also order kraft paper online from many websites such as www.dickblick.com, www.origami-shop.com, etc.

Hello! Today we will be folding an Origami Magic Ball designed by Kade Chan.
This is one of the most well-known
origami models on YouTube, and in this
video, I will teach you how to fold this
model with great detail.
Now what we have to do to give the ball a
more rounded shape is we have to locate
these waterbomb bases on the top and
bottom edge, and we have to partially
unfold them. So the pieces that we
collapsed on the side of the waterbomb
bases,
we're just going to unfold them so that
it looks like this again.
So just the little pieces that are on the
edge, we don't have to unfold the whole
entire waterbomb base.
We're just going to continue to do this
for each waterbomb along the edge of
the top and the bottom.
Now that we have unfolded them, we're
going to create more reverse folds to
give it its more round shape.
So we're going to look for the mountain
folds. And what we have to do with the
mountain folds is we have to locate
diagonal creases extending outwards from
it.
This is what it should look like. I have
already drawn the mountain on here for you.
And they're already existing creases, so
you don't have to make any new creases.
So what you want to do with this
mountain fold is just push down so that
a reverse fold forms on those two
creases that I've outlined there. Now you
just want to squeeze that together so
that it's nice like that. And then you
just continue that process all the way
down the bottom edge.
Once the entire bottom row is completed
and it looks like this, then you can do
the same thing on the top row. So just
unfold the top waterbomb bases on the
edge, and then just reverse fold them
like you did on the bottom.
Now we want to give this Magic Ball its
round shape. So to do this, we're going to
look on the left and right sides, and
we're going to unfold a few waterbombs
on either side.
There's no exact amount that you have to
unfold, but it's basically just your
preference.
So just unfold a couple on both sides,
just so that you have room to work on
either side. And once you have it like
this, then you can put the model over.
Now we're going to take the bottom of
the left and right sides and we're going
to connect them so that the ball has
a round shape. So to do this we have to
take a piece of tape. And I would
recommend using painter's tape because
you can take it off if you don't like it. And put it halfway on the left side. And
then you bring over the right side, and
you attach the right side to the same
piece of tape.
Just line them up as best as you can.
So line up the edge so it's nice and
straight. And then you continue to do
this until you reach the bottom of the
model. So just keep taping all the sides
together until you get to the bottom.
Once you have completely connected the
sides together, it will look something
like this.
Now I know this looks terrible, but all
you have to do is collapse the waterbomb
bases once again along the
creases that we've already created. And
also, since we've already created the
waterbomb bases and unfolded them,
re-collapsing them should not be too
difficult.
Once you have finished collapsing the
waterbomb bases, then your model is
complete!
