How to Reset SA Password in SQL Server Express

Forgot or lost SA password to access SQL Server Express when you have a try to use SQL Server? Follow this video to get help from iSunshare SQL Password Genius.

1. Get SQL Password Genius on computer.

2. Install and run SQL Password Genius on computer.

3. Import SQL Server Express master database file.

This is the key step to reset SQL Server SA password. If you find the correct master.mdf file, you have gotten half of success.
Click "Open File" button and browse master database file on computer. Generally, it is saved on installation directory or C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data.

4. Reset SQL Server Express SA password.

After master database file is imported, all the users would list in SQL Password Genius, including SA account. It is in the first place in the user list. If its password has been set and forgotten, password status is "unknown". Generally, it has the highest privileges for SQL Server master database.

Select "sa" account and click "Reset" button. And type new password in pop-up dialog, and then click "OK". Instantly, SA password is reset and shown in user list.

Now you have SA user password to login into SQL Server and have the privileges to access SQL Server database.

But don't forget that SQL Server Services has been stopped after SQL Server password reset with SQL Password Genius. Now please remember start or restart SQL Server Services in SQL Server Configuration Manager.
