Hello and welcome back to the Concept Checkup.
The point of Concept Checkup is to dive into the Warframe forums,
look for a community-made Warframe concept,
and talk about it.
For the purpose of Concept Checkup I will use my
custom-built evaluating method known as...
ASS.
Without further ado, let's begin the Checkup.
For today's Checkup we have Vector, the Momentum Warframe.
Vector was created by jmforeman02 on the Warframe forums,
and is rather unique because its kit relies
on an already-existing mechanic;
the melee combo damage multiplier (MDM).
Vector's armor and damage increase depending on how
high his MDM is, and as such,
he can become an unstoppable force if it's high enough.
His stats make him frail in the beginning,
but if he builds up high enough via the MDM,
he can become a force to be reckoned with.
Vector has a 3 part passive.
This sounds OP, but allow me to explain.
In other words, Vector starts out about as skinny as Nekros,
but with a high enough MDM, he can become as large as Rhino.
Vector's second passive is merely a convenience.
It's quite clear that Vector is meant to be
a hard-hitting melee bruiser, and if he is paired with a maxed Body Count,
well, let's just say he would quite literally become a killing ball of momentum.
Vector's first ability is Shadow Lunge.
Vector jumps to a targeted enemy, ignoring all enemies in his path,
and upon impact, creates a shockwave in a 180 degree
area in front of him,
stunning all enemies in the range for 2 seconds.
Enemies that are ignored by Shadow Lunge and enemies
that are hit by the shockwave stun add to Vector's MDM.
It's obvious that this ability is meant to be used as the
'sustain' for Vector's MDM, and can double as minor CC
with its short, but decent ranged stun.
If Shadow Lunge also applies to locations,
it could also be used as an escape ability.
Vector has two possible second abilites,
the first is Concentrated Blast.
Vector's melee hit counter is reduced by 30 for each use,
but it knocks down all enemies struck by Concentrated Blast,
and deals 150 x Vector's MDM.
This means that if your MDM reaches 3.5,
Vector's damage from Concentrated Blast becomes 525.
The melee hit counter reduction clearly makes it so
Concentrated Blast isn't spammed at every opportunity,
but besides that, the knockdown seems useful.
Concentrated Blast essentially looks like a better version of Banshee's Sonic Boom.
Vector's other second possible ability is Channel Surge.
Vector powers up like a Super Saiyan,
negating all channel costs on his melee weapon,
meaning that Vector is free to energy channel with his melee weapons at absolutely no cost.
I assume that Channel Surge is a time-limited ability,
because if it isn't,
it would be a very very OP ability,
since it would grant Vector the power to use mods like
Focused Defense, Life Strike, and Corrupt Charge
for absolutely free.
Vector's third ability is Momentum Sink.
Vector channels and creates a large bubble around himself,
increasing his own momentum while slowing all enemies in the bubble.
If there are no enemies in the bubble,
Vector slows himself in order to keep his MDM high.
All enemies inside the bubble are slowed by 10% x Vector's MDM,
and Vector's hit counter is increased by 1 for every
enemy in the bubble, per second.
Vector's Momentum Sink seems like a long range version of
Frost's Snow Globe, but it's more geared towards CC than defense.
Momentum Sink has the Momentum Redistribution Augment,
which gives all allies in the bubble bonus movement and attack speed.
Depending on how strong the bonuses are, they could be a nice bonus to Vector.
Vector's fourth ability is Unbalanced Force.
Vector sends out all the momentum he's gathered thus far,
creating a giant blast that damages and ragdolls all enemies in the blast zone, away from Vector.
Using this will reset Vector's MDM back to 0,
but Vector will gain momentum twice as fast until he
reaches his maximum momentum prior to using Unbalanced Force.
Unbalanced Force deals 750 base damage x Vector's MDM.
Needless to say, going for a Power Strength and damage build
on Vector while having a high MDM will result
in a massive range nuke that takes time to recharge.
If anything,
Vector's take on the already-existing MDM shakes things up a bit for melee,
but with his damage output, minor CC, and potentially
high armor by focusing on getting a high MDM,
he can become a strong addition to the game.
If Vector constantly keeps damaging enemies to build up his momentum,
I can see his Momentum Sink and Unbalanced Force
being crucial components in a squad to make some room
and lockdown a crowd of enemies.
It's not Vauban levels of CC,
but it still has its use.
Anyway, here are Vector's scores.
For my personal thoughts,
I find Vector's momentum-powered playstyle and look to be
kind of a breath of fresh air.
I would call it not as 'annoying' as Limbo's Rift,
but still not so weak that it's a gimmick.
If the numbers behind Vector could be sorted out,
he'd be an interesting frame to play,
implying that his Channel Surge isn't stupidly OP.
So that's Vector's Checkup.
Tune in next time where I will perform a Concept Checkup on Silk.
Thank you for watching.
