Windows XP to 7 (32-bit) : Conexant High Definition Audio driver problem FIXED!
(From Windows XP to Windows 7 on my Compaq Presario V3000)
32-bit systems only. (for 64-bit systems, you just have to download their 64-bit versions.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to provide "before and after" screenshots because I had just, with a bit of luck, fixed it and just wanted to share this to other people who were having the same problem.
Upgrading from XP to Win7 can cause a couple of problems. Most of them would be driver compatibility problems. For me, it was my sound driver, it had been identified as a "Bluetooth Media Driver (something)". This is because Windows7 searches for compatible drivers but ends up using the wrong one and "Conexant HD Audio drivers" were being supported only up until Windows Vista. So Win7 doesn't actually see Conexant HD as a sound driver. Luckily for us, Vista is somewhat similar to how Win7 is built, so some of the their latest drivers might still work with Win7.
So click the first link, download and extract.(ex. C:\Drivers\)
Then open up "Device Manager" and right-click the problematic audio device driver and click "Update Driver Software". Devices with problems are going to have a [yellow triangle with an exclamation point] icon so it's going to be pretty obvious.
Click "Browse my computer for driver software".
Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers from my computer".
Click "Have disk..." then "Browse", then navigate to extraction path then select the INF file (ex. BD1VHDza.inf) to install.
The first one is sort of a dummy driver. It's just so Windows7 will be able to identify the "Conexant HD Audio" as your audio device. So basically, the first step was just "renaming" it.
Then after it's been installed, it might still say "No audio device". No need to worry.
The second and last step is just to download, extract and install (auto-install will be fine) the second driver (which I assume is the latest Vista driver for Conexant Audio) and then you're done.
I hope this works for you so good luck. :-)
