another free software video this time
we're going to have a look at some of
the best free video editors for 2015 and
2016
I'm going to mainly be focusing on
desktop computers so basically a video
editing software for Windows Mac and
Linux
all right let's get started
should a light is a free lightweight
video editor machete is a simple tool is
good for coming and joining video clips
but the free version has some severe
limitations for example you can't add an
audio track
although you can remove all the audio
and you can only import and export to
avi and WMV files but not mp4 files
which are the most common video files
nowadays if you have a premade intro and
outro and use handbrake to convert your
mp4 files to avi eyes and you could
feasibly use my shit a to make youtube
videos although there are better options
out there
the main thing that annoys me is the
file type limitation if they allowed mp4
files for the free version it will be
significantly more convenient and usable
machete light is good if you are editing
on an older computer or a netbook with
low CPU power and memory or a low
performance graphics card machine today
is only available on windows
I'll give my shit daylight 4.5 out of 10
points
windows movie maker is a fairly simple
and easy to use video editor in fact
it's the first video editor i use and it
comes with a decent amount of features
it is included by default in some
windows the installations but if you are
missing it you can download windows
essentials 2012 for free from Microsoft
Windows Movie Maker you can cut join and
trim video clips add and remove audio
create transition effects adjust colors
brightness and contrast among other
effects you can also make text titles
and credits and record video from your
webcam movie maker can also export files
as mp4 among other file types and you
can even publish or videos directly to
youtube and other websites through a
movie maker
it's definitely a step up from a shit
day although it is a bit more bulky and
may require more processing power to
machete movie maker is obviously only
available for Windows but if you are
using a Mac and you should have a movie
which is actually better than me
the maker it should be included in all
new mac computers
I'll give Windows Movie Maker five point
five out of ten points video is a
web-based nonlinear video editor which
allows you to upload videos and edit
them in the cloud
this might be a good option for those of
you who have low performance computers
as you're not processing the videos
locally this you are not using your own
computers resources as much
although the editor itself or does
require some amount of processing power
and memory despite being web-based
youtube also has its own video editor
but it is closer to machete than windows
movie maker or we video that we video
editor is closer to a professional video
editing tool as it comes with a timeline
that supports multiple tracks for
layering video and audio titles special
effects graphics and other overlays
you can also adjust colors rightness
contrast saturation adjust the video
size and rotation among other things
which we video you can also record from
your webcam video will also export as
mp4 and can publish edited videos
directly to youtube and other sites
the downside with we video is that the
free account option only includes two
gigabytes of video clip uploads and a
maximum of five minutes in edited and
published
videos making it fairly limited

video is that it does come with a
watermark in the upper right corner when

i'll give you a video 6 out of 10 points
the SDC free video editor is a more
advanced nonlinear video editor that has
a good amount of features it feels
almost like a professional video editor
it is more difficult to learn the
windows movie maker but it also has more
features so you can use it to make
better videos
PSD supports multiple layers where you
can add images video and audio content
you can import objects by themselves or
in the form of sprites where you can
combine videos at transitions and other
effects and if you important by
themselves you can later
combine several objects into sprites
with vs DC you can also create text
titles adjust colors levels brightness
and contrast or create blur and
transitions among other things
audio effects such as volume adjustment
fading or fade out reverb phaser
low-pass and high-pass band pass and
more are also available
esdc can capture video from your webcam
is able to screen capture your desktop
and can burn your projects - dvd-video
projects can be exported in multiple
formats including mp4 avi WMV MPEG and
mov
all in all vs DC is a fairly
comprehensive video editor especially
considering that is completely free
the SDC is only available for windows
I'll give PSDC seven out of ten points
lightworks has been around for about 25
years and was used to edit major motion
pictures such as the wolf of Wall Street
and pulp fiction
what's even better is that it is
available for free but with some
limitations
you have to sign up on the lightworks
website and renew your free license
every week and with the free version you
can only export projects as 720p mp4
files but for most purposes 720p is
enough and renewing your license once a
week is not a big deal considering what
you get in return
personally I have not used light works
before I only found out about it while
researching in this video and I can
already tell that it will require some
effort to learn how to use it
the video editor is nonlinear with a
timeline that has multiple tracks for
video and audio footage you can trim
clips in the timeline and apply multiple
effects and transitions light works also
supports plugins
it supports of wide array of video input
formats including AVCHD H dot 264 xdcam
and about a dozen more
but as mentioned previously the free
version will only export 720p mp4 files
with an option to upload directly to
YouTube seeing us light works a bit more
difficult to learn there are some
tutorials on the lightworks website that
will teach you the basics
so if you have a little time and
patience to learn lightworks is
definitely the best entirely free video
editor that i was able to find light
works is available for Windows Mac and
Linux
I'll give light works 8.5 out of 10
points as a bonus i wanted to mention
handbrake which is a free open source
video transcoder that you can use to
convert videos from one format to
another
it supports even some of the more on
common formats it's a useful tool to
have in case you are using a slightly
older HD video camera with of the video
format that is unsupported by your video
editor for example and break this
available for Windows Mac and Linux
that's basically it for this video
