Adding cutlines to a pdf/jpg file from the internet in your Silhouette Studio Software

Hi guys. I am back with another tutorial showing you how to import pdf and jpg files into your Silhouette software and add the cut lines so you don't have to cut the printable by hand.

In no way am I encouraging you to do this and take credit for other peoples work! Please do not take the images you make and claim them as your own or try to sell them! But for those of you who have a Silhouette cutting machine and want to utilize it this tutorial for personal use to make your life easier, this is the tutorial for you.

A link to this cute printable made by Vintage Glam Studio can be found here: http://www.vintageglamstudio.com/2015/11/17/autumn-fields-planner-stickers-free-printable-download/

* You can only import pdfs into Silhouette's software if you have the Designer Edition. If you do not have the Designer Edition, you can still you this, but you will have to save the pdf to your computer as a jpg. I show you how to do this on my Mac. Not sure how to save a pdf as a jpg on a PC, but I am sure you can Google it and find the instructions very easily.

I hope you found this tutorial useful and thanks for watching!

hi everyone this is jessica from my
planner & B and in this video I'm going
to show you how to take PDFs from the
internet and import them into your
silhouette software and add the cut
lines
so for this video I am going to do this
one from its the autumn fields planner
sticker free printable download from
vintage glam studio i love her stuff she
her printables like this where the
inspiration behind my sampler on
printables that I put out so what I'm
going to do is I'm going to download the
PDF here so it's going to open up and
i'm going to come over to here and
download and it's going to come down
here into my downloads
so let me push this down so i'm gonna
close this down right here
I'm going to come to my downloads and i
have a mac on the mac you can hit
command + Shift + you drag the PDF over
the top of the silhouette studio and
release the buttons and it brings up
this
so on this part where it brings up
import as vector or import as image
you're going to import it and as an
image and you're going to do 300 DPI so
it's going to import into here
ok so what you're going to do is you're
going to come over here to your
registration marks and turn them on
I bring everything down because this
gives you the most surface area to work
with
so if you zoom in here you can actually
see that when you put cut lines right
here
your you might run into issues as far as
if light being that it's going to be up
in this gray area and it's not going to
cut so I'm gonna hang on
go and hit Center to page again i'm
going to zoom out and for right now I'm
going to turn off my registration marks
so on a printable like this if you go
over to this trace area and you select
the whole thing what I find happens is
you don't get as good of lines around
all of the images so if you what we're
going to do is we're going to go to the
Select race area and then we're going to
make the box around it like i just did
and you hit you uncheck this high pass
filter and make sure this low pass
filter is off as well
and if you you bring this down but see
if you zoom in a lot of times they see
the lines right here are all jaggedy and
they're not very good and see right here
as well
well I find works best for me is I do
them kind of in groups
so what I'm going to do I'm going to
zoom in closer so you guys can see if
you hear my cat walking around in the
background sorry
um anyway I'm gonna come and I'm going
to do this this top row right here first
so I'm going to hit unclick this high
pass filter
I'm going to bring the threshold all the
way up and then I'm going to bring it
down to four
and sometimes you have to tweak this a
little bit but right
we're not worried about this love being
filled in or this notes this whole
entire thing
what you're going to do when you get it
highlighted and you know usually the
best setting is to bring up the
threshold and then the scale and you're
going to hit trace and detach
ok so if I actually I can move these off
of my background
so I'm going to move these off for right
now so then I'm going to do the next
area let's see if we can get these to
work altogether so uncheck the high pass
filter bring it all the way up to a
hundred percent all the way down to 4
and hit trace and attached again
so now i'm going to move these off just
slowly and surely
ok let's see all right let's try
well we gotta do this one it sometimes
takes a while doing it this way but i'd
rather do it this way and have nice
crisp lines versus having jaggedy ugly
lines so let's try this whole section
right here
I'll see how this works k zoom in zoom
up the threshold down this and see the
lines are little bit better here on
these birds but if you hit this trace
and attached
oh it's taking it slow time
see it's still see it's a little bit
jaggedy around the edge of the bird
that's fine but see right now i'm going
to zoom out and I'm actually just going
to click this and see I can just totally
move this out of the way and get rid of
this
and right here I don't necessarily need
to make that a sticker that's just
telling me what what the printable was
ok so now what you're going to do is
come over here and turn back on the cut
lines
i meanwhile the registration marks so
now you can come and rearrange all these
stickers
I find it best to at least try and keep
the images at least that far away from
that registration marks so that it's not
gonna like run into issues so i'll bring
these smaller kinds of images up here
will bring back in
I wonder if I I've seen somebody do this
where you can do the nesting and see
let's see if it does it
ok so if you have this you can hit this
nesting area and will nest everything in
here
that's too close to the cup lines for me
so i'm going to i don't know what all
those little time
things were okay we don't need those
whatever those are
I don't know all right let's see if we
got rid of all those
no just the weirdest thing okay we don't
want to get rid of that big part
alright so ok so now everything
everything is within the lines to an
extent let's see some of these
I don't want that one that closed so
let's get rid of these down here
see so if you don't have I think the
nesting feature is in the designer
edition like i do and that's another
thing if you don't have the designer
addition you're not going to be able to
do this with a PDF
you're going to have to do it with a
JPEG so if you come over here
what will stop this right now so I'm
going to hit and open this PDF in my
preview you want to file and export and
you're going to hit
jpg and save it so it saved it back down
here
well no it didn't it went to my desktop
ok so I'm going to put it in my
downloads
anyway I'll show you that in just a
second so what you're going to do is
you're going to highlight all these
images then you're going to come over
here and you're going to hit cut edge
so now you've got a cut line around all
of your images you
so now you would print this and then
send it to the printer
put it on your mat or however you cut
with your silhouette and now here are
all of the images that were on this PDF
here
there now within the cut lines of the
silhouette and you're good to go now so
I'm going to come over here to this one
entitled thing
whatever untitled so now i'm just going
to drag this into here
the jpg this is what you're going to do
if you have the regular
studio silhouette software so now come
over here to the scale and you're just
going to come and make this 8.5 and then
come over here and hit Center to page
and then you're going to do all of the
same exact instructions that i did with
the PDF
show me what to do going moving these
down seeing where your area that you're
working with us and look even you might
be able to just get away with moving
this a little bit down and is within the
registration marks but see if you
actually come over here and you hit cut
edge
all it's going to do is highlight the
edge of your JPEG or your PDF that's why
you have to go through and do this
trace area and cut these out so anyway I
hope you guys found this interesting
also when your lesson only come through
here
no cut for now
ok if you group let's say we group this
together now I hit cut edge
it will put up the cut lines because we
actually did the trace and detach part
and made these each their own images
so anyway sorry if this video is really
rambly I was trying to give you as much
information as possible
um I give you this information so as you
can use vintage clamps studios or
whoever's pdfs for your personal use
i don't i'm not encouraging you to take
their files and make them your own and
try and sell them and all that good
stuff and be shady because I don't think
that's a good thing but anyway I hope
you guys found this video interesting
and I guess I'll talk to you next time
bye
