Red Hat Linux 6 Installation in Virtual Box

Red Hat Linux 6 Installation in Virtual Box

Required Software:
1) If virtual Box is not available. Need to download from Oracle here
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
2) If RHEL6 64bit Version is not available. Need to download that from here
Can be searched in Google and get this downloaded. Preferably any iso images as Virtual Box can use .iso files as input files to create OS.

RHEL 6 on Virtual Box

OS : Linux
Version : RedHat 64bit

Memory : 1GB (1024MB)
The more memory you set here would give better performance for the OS to get installed and what ever applications that you install in this New OS after instllation.
But the limitation should be half to that of Host OS. (Ex: if you have 4GB its better to restrict around 1.8G).

Create New Hard Disk :
Since you are creating this image for the first time, you need to select this option.

VDI : This is the default storage format that VirtualBox is using

Go for Fixed for Good performance:
You can go for Dynamic or Fixed based on your time spending on creating the Image. If you are going for below 50G, better and have all the space available upfront, go for Fixed. Fixed is always preferable. But check for the limitations.

Size of Instance : This is to be selected with Proper caution and future usage of that instance. Maximum value can't be changed.

Review the Summary:
Check for the names and locations where this image is stored...

Fixed Medium storage will be done based on your selection earlier (we selected Fixed):
This will take around 15 to 20min minutes based on your system speed

Installation will be done after copying phase:
Installation can be done in 30min

For quick demonstration some of the information skipped.
In this video, I have removed long running copying and installing part. But crucial information is still there.

Reboot screen (Confirmation message)

After reboot provide Instance and location specific information. This is similar to any other OS installation.

Once Instance is rebooted...
COncentrate on the warning pop-up messages..

Once the installation is done... you can use the Instance RHEL6.

Thanks
