hi
this tutorial will show you how to put
an image onto a SD card to use the
raspberry pi
this tutorial will be carried on the mac
but it will also work on linux as well
now the first thing we want to do is to
format the SD card and to do this we
want to open disk utility on the market
open disk utility just come up to the
spotlight search for here and take the
disc and open it that on linux there is
a similar program called gparted which
will accomplish more or less the same
thing I want to come down here to the SD
card want to go over to erase I want to
formatted as ms-dos fat
okay now that that's done the next thing
you want to do is to find an image if
you want to get an image for the
raspberry pi i highly suggest going to
raspberry pi dog / downloads and if
you're a new user
I would particularly recommend getting
this debian squeeze image now when you
click on that and you download the image
you want to extract it out of the zip
folder and you will then be left with an
IMG file once you've got this IMG file
the next thing you're to do is to go to
the terminal and to get to the terminal
just come up with the spotlight type in
terminal and open it like that
now the next thing we want to do is to
input a bunch of commands to basically
put the image that we just downloaded
onto SD card to resume pipe the easiest
way to do this rather than just typing
in mind Willie is to go to the
e-learning easily mix wiki this link
will be in the description and if your
mac OSX you want to come down until you
see copying an image to the SD card in
mac OS x and using linux you want to
come down to this linux action but the
more or less the same the kinds of
pretty similar
now the first thing you want to do is
since we've already extracted or image
we will want to come down to the section
now this path optional arm but i will do
it because it's nice to know basically
what command from command 62 is you type
in DF minus H and the list all the
device's storage devices and all that
attached to computer sore
first of all you want to remove the SD
card from your computer
yes and you will want to type in TF
minus into the terminal just copy and
paste it from the wiki that'll tell get
list all these devices for you and next
one you want to do is you want to put
the SD card back into the computer i
give it a sec and then type it in again
and you'll see this time that there's a
new device listed called disc 1 s 1 so
that means that this is our SD card and
if you look up here you can see the
capacity is the same as my SD card as
well because every 2 gigabyte SD card
once this is done you will want to
unmount SD card you want to come view
and copy and paste this light into the
terminal give it a sack and it will
among the SD card from your computer
next you want to come down to part 8 and
what it says is using the device name of
the petition work out the raw device
name for the entire disk by missing out
the final s1 and replacing disc with
artists so stay in the previous section
by here I like obviously mine was called
disc 1 s1 the same as this but so for
example yours called disk to s1 what you
want to do is for this next section
don't you know you would want to miss
out
yes one and would want to place the word
disc with our disk so you end up with
something like our disc two are discrete
whatever you got in the previous section
i was lucky and I have the same one as
this time to go with that the next we
want to do is in the terminal right the
image to the card with this command
using the raw device name listed above
so I'm just going to copy and paste this
put in the two men out here and press
ENTER yet obviously if your device is
different by this paper here I'm your
the change it remains the same so I
don't need to do that this section you
do want to change forever i'm going to
backspace on this out and what this
basically is is the directory of where
we save the image so i saved it to my
desktop so I'm gonna place downloads
where the desktop and the name of my
image is image name . OMG so i'm gonna
type in image name and horribly as I do
that we got this is stored on my desktop
obviously using the downloads are kept
in the downloads
it's called image name and my SD card is
called artist 11 / center and depending
on how long after the image you had is
depends on how long this step will take
for this particular tutorial i chose
quite a small image let's see if you
were to use something like from the
Raspberry Pi website and you would use
debian squeeze this classic few minutes
and it is quite misleading sometimes it
looks like nothing's really happening
never got mine is very fast and that is
basically it
the image has been listening to the SD
card to be see if you can inject the
disc which I'm going to know don't have
to do it but it's good to do it and that
is more less it the images on my SD card
know i can plug into Raspberry Pi and
butta into whatever open system whatever
linux distribution put on my SD card and
that is more less it so thanks for
watching and I hope this helped
