Find a PDF Version of a Textbook
Visit http://www.universityninja.com for more helpful tips.
Everyday everyone's going more digital. We use laptops to write our documents more and we even have devices like an Amazon Kindle which can digitally transport thousands of books. Have you ever conceived the idea of throwing away the heavy textbook and going PDF?
Before I continue, I just want to mention that I'm not advocating the following. I'm just letting you know that it can be done. Here's some things to consider.
1. Not all books can be found online. You may be more lucky to find a solutions manual of a textbook over the actual book itself. On the other hand, that might not be bad at all.
2. Obviously its illegal to obtain these books in these formats without paying for them. Not all publishing companies offer PDF version of their books to students or solutions manuals. Usually these text are intended for teachers. In addition, there are copyright laws and all that other goodness you should be cautious about.
3. Make sure to invest in a larger monitor, maybe a Dell or Apple. Make sure it's like 20in or more. Trust me, trying to read documents on a small laptop screen is the last thing you want. Even worse, trying to read it on an iPhone or small netbook can do even worst things to your eyes.
4. Be willing to accept the consequences if caught.
If you're okay with everything I've mentioned so far, let's proceed. Here's what you need:
1. You need an internet connection
2. You might need a rapidshare account to make downloading easier (you can download for free, but it's limited)
3. Lots of patience
4. Last of all, perseverance. Don't expect to find the book on your first try, it takes some trial and error.
LET'S BEGIN TRAINING!
1. Find the name of the book, author(s), edition, and possibly ISBN number
2. Open up a browser and navigate to Google.com
3. Search using these keywords put parentheses as shown [ "book name" author + rapidshare + download] ex: ["Calculus" James Stewart + rapidshare + download]
4. Peruse the search results looking into forums, rapidlibrary.com, and other search engines of rapidshare.
5. Begin confirming files (look for file sizes around 20mb and up)
6. Begin downloading files and confirm whether or not you got the file you were looking for.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 while alternating search names and sifting through websites.
Conclusion...
Finding the digital copy of a textbook is almost like finding a needle in a haystack. It can be difficult and frustrating. At the end of the day you might not even find what you are looking for. However, you shouldn't be angry. I mean, you were trying to get it for free in the first place.
1. You might have found links, but they were dead.
2. You might be able to find links in forums
3. You can find links in rapidshare search websites
IF THIS DID NOT WORK FOR YOU, THERE'S ALWAYS ANOTHER WAY TO NINJA YOUR BOOK.

hi everyone welcome to university
tutorial today we're going to be
training you how to find textbooks
online now
it's not your typical way of finding
textbooks online in this case we're
going to learn how to find a PDF version
of your your textbook just some
forewarning what we're going to teach
you now it's not something we
technically advocate here at University
intercom
all we're trying to show you that it is
possible to find a PDF version of your
textbook
now we just want you to know that not
all books can be found online in the
form of a PDF it could end up being in
different format as well you might be
lucky to only find the solutions manual
to a textbook but that might be pretty
good at actually in and of itself again
obtaining these books in this manner is
illegal obviously because you're not
paying for them and publishing companies
don't normally offer books in PDF or
even a solutions manual students again
there are copyright laws and issues so
you need to be careful and you know
cautious of those things
in addition if you're going to plan on
going this route in making it using a
textbook online a PDF text book instead
of using an actual text book you might
want to invest in a large white screen
or really tall monitor to read your
documents because it's going to hurt
your eyes trying to read a textbook all
day on a very small monitor or a small
laptop so things are going to need
you're going to need your internet
connection
you might need a rapidshare account for
those of you that are familiar with that
lots of patience and last of all
perseverance
don't expect to find every book on your
first try you might be lucky
so now enough talking let's get started
with the tutorial or in this case our
training session
first things first find the name of the
book the author edition and possibly
ISBN number
I mean all the information might not be
needed but a let's just do a quick run
here
so there's this book i took a calculus
course my freshman year and the book was
by james stewart and it was called class
calculus and so I'm going to bring up
the information on the book
so here's a text book
I also don't think that's the original
version but it's probably
here we go
this is a more updated version i believe
sixth edition
I was thinking that I was using the 5th
edition a few years ago
so you'll notice that the price check on
this book is a hundred and sixty three
dollars
now when we do these searches for books
you can expect to be able to find the
latest edition of a book you might be
able to find 5th edition fourth edition
and conditions below that because those
books are obviously more available in
the book just recently came out
tough walk you probably won't be able to
find a version of that but listen to
another tutorial that we have up on the
website that will give you some guidance
into using older editions of textbooks
and how to get away using those verses
the latest edition
alright so let's head back to Google
now i'm going to try to find this
textbook and I mean I've already gone
through this so it's really easy
first things first you wanna use
quotation marks in certain search fields
in Google putting quotations helps
isolate terms and helps you find those
keywords in a website
I'm just going to type in the person's
full name calculus
James Stewart plus rapidshare and you
wonder why use rapture
well rapidshare is sort of like a
downloading service where people can
upload files and share it and then the
people get people to link and then you
can download download it using that link
and rapidshare is probably one of the
biggest you know file distribution sites
that i can think of that do this sort of
thing a lot of people upload content on
their servers
whether it's legal or not that's up to
you to decide again this is just a
tutorial
just to let you kind of know that this
thing is out there and it's possible for
you to do
and again the ramifications and the
legalities on it is solely on you
ok so I'm going to do a search on a
quick google search and what do you know
we have some content shows up
first things first kind of looked at
this trying to see what's what
information is there
normally you might flying your files on
something like rapid library com
let's see it might look like this and
they might search the key word and
you'll have some information here so you
can already see that there's a textbook
up here is calculus 5th edition James
Stewart now is that the actual text book
who knows you might what you're going to
have to do is you have to go to the
process go through this method and
download the file from rapidshare.com
and you'll see this window open up like
this and you can just click free user if
your premium user
great i'll go a lot faster for you so
that was a quick easy step to finding
the textbook again there's other ways to
find it here for instance there's
another link up here in this case for
somebody posted up on a forum and here
they posted up the 5th edition book they
put different format different servers
different
you know like the positive files
megaupload these are similar air places
like rapidshare that lets you upload
files and then here's a solutions manual
to the textbook so you know it's
everything's all there the whole package
there you might be wondering was not the
6th edition and one of the six edition
well I'm sorry to say that it it's not
always possible to find the edition of
the book that's most current however
again please check out another tutorial
we have that focuses on using older
textbooks that will be usually very
helpful for you
okay well that's all for the training
session i hope you enjoyed it if you
have any questions send me an email
