Getting Started: Converting Scanned Documents into a PDF File

This video shows you how to convert a scanned document into a PDF file in Acrobat X.

hello my name is Ian Campbell and in
this video we show you how to convert a
scanned document into a PDF file in
Acrobat 10
now if you've not scanned your document
yet but do you have a scanner connect to
your computer you can scan the document
directly to PDF from within Acrobat
simply click on the create button and
the PDF from scanner option and choose a
preset which matches the type of
original for example black and white
document or color image if you have a
mix of color and monochrome originals
you can opt to the new auto detect color
mode now if you've already scanned your
documents and save them as a file on
disk back about ten makes it easy to
convert them to compact and efficient
PDF files PDFs created by accurate can
be opened and viewed worldwide by anyone
with the free adobe reader on mac
windows linux and even mobile devices to
convert your image file to PDF simply
choose create PDF from the splash screen
or alternatively create an NPA PDF from
file from the top left button a command
will initially show files which
correspond to the file formats supported
for conversion to list files from one
specific format for example tiff
click on the down arrow next to the
files of type and choose that format
from the drop-down list
I'll just convert the tiff file ND a
scan one which is a hundred and
sixty-nine k
as you can see it's a legal document and
i can now save the newly created PDF
file to disk if i choose file properties
we can see that this document is now a
much more efficient 61k approaching a
third of the original size of the to
file yet still good quality
now if your experience in document
scanning and wish to fine-tune
conversion settings you can easily do so
in Acrobat 10

conversion options
now as in previous versions of Acrobat
you can control image compression and
color management but in aggregate 10
we now have a new option which is
particularly useful but if images scan
optimization and OCR apply adaptive
compression allows acrobat to
automatically use the best compression
method for each area of the page here we
can choose various filters to help
improve the final image quality and
finally we can use acrobat to make text
within the scanned image fully
searchable
now the original size of this magazine
page was over 13 megabytes
but thanks to a crack at tens advanced
image conversion optimization features
we now have a fully searchable PDF
that's just 85 k in size
