HOWTO: Basic Video Editing (Premiere CS5)

what's up everybody this is lee and this
is premiere pro cs5 video editing basics
which I make this fast I want to thank

was requested by member i want to learn
how to edit video with premier pro so
here we go here's the program right now
most versions are similar quite similar
you start you want to start a new
project or open the project you working
on
you wanna really know where you want to
put the project pick a spot
excuse me and then pick a name for our
jack whatever whatever you want to be
make sure you organize all your files
because if you don't they get messed up
then ask you what do you want your first
sequence to be all right now i don't
know what i want my first sequence 3 but
if you know then put it if you don't
know just click cancel and then it's
going to bring you up to something
this window and now let's go over a few
things here is your first main tool
palette
here's your here's now this is the
standard if you go to window workspace
is you could change between color
correction audio whatever it's on
editing standard workspace
you got project which which will include
all your videos audio images motion
graphics any kind of clips that you
would use you got resource center which
no one uses you have your source and
record monitors this is where you're
going to be picking clips from this is
going to be what your final video looks
like and this is the timeline that will
play to show your final video right here
see how those yellow bars show up
whenever I select stuff
the tilde key next to the one key on the
under the Escape key if you have one
selected and you press it it maximizes
it that is really handy now this one
over here let's maximize it
you have all your fix you have your
history of what you've done you have
information about whatever selected you
have a media browser you can go through
your whole computer and browse through
the media flying different file types
you want
I never use that personally I have this
one folder somewhere that I lost
ok here's a folder is a bunch of this is
for a contest so I got a bunch of videos
and just click a few of them and then
just drag them in drag and drop them in
and i also have this one song so it's
importing now if if you have a video on
a camera that is on tape
people don't know we have that anymore
but if you still do with in your way and
you can go search for more tutorials if
you get lost you go to file and capture
and this is how you're going to capture
video from our like a firewire drive
that the capture device is offline
and actually I still do you use that as
well yes so here's I've been full of
footage I like to have a different
folders
I always put different folders like for
footage and then i also have this audio
clip
it's just a linkin park song going to
drag that in there
now i'm going to make it audio folder
and i also like to make sequences
folders press especially if i'm doing
documentaries or longer things and music
videos or something that has a lot of
sequences in it
now i don't i don't have any time on
sequences yet but i'll tell you a good
way to get started and figure out
exactly how big the normal footage is
you see if you click a different file
its going to show you that it's 1280 x
720 it's for 4800 for 8,000 Hertz
kilohertz compress stereo to use your
information this is just audio and I
don't know why because this is avi
so you can see the information most of
our 1280 x 720 but you can mix clips it
will it will be needed to shrink or
scale to have the clips
depending on your sequence size but
let's do this
we take our main clip and will drop it
on this little piece of paper
boom that's going to make our first
sequence to be the exact size of
whatever that clip is so we're going to
go ahead
take that sequence and drop it into the
sequences and i'm also going to label it
this is how i like to label things 01
edit and then like it i'm going to make
another secrets and 302 effects 03 audio
0 for color correction 05 whatever and
make the different iterations but so
once you have clips now i can take this
clip up because i'm not going to say
first they use that clip exactly i can
if you double-click the clip it comes
into the source monitor where you can
then play it
that's it's really loud i'm sorry if you
guys heard that there rip these are
really high quality clips and sometimes
don't play back full
but anyway now now if you wanted to
insert pictures as well

logo on there so i got my logo in there
now there's multiple tracks here so
let's say we want to edit something to
music going to take our song
we're gonna start going to press I for
endpoint or you can see right here his

if you press L it goes forward which is
this really loud right now

just um there's some a handle that I

if you click the microphone it will just
drag the audio and it will place the
audio down and whatever audio track you
want to place it right there will bring
it out more it's just it's just music
and i'm going to put a video clip in
there just so we can see it now here's a
good way to add some music using the a
strip ski pro tennis your little drum
machine pretend you're drunk so you drum
continue trying to play to the song and
your drumming out points where it hits
where you want to not too many hits but

now i'm gonna bring this down i did not
and I'm just hitting to the point that i
want videos to change and you see I made
these little markers so let's go and
find some video so I'm going to just
pick a pic in . scrub a little bit ways
and go picking out . and i just want the
video file click and drag the whole
thing it's gonna it's supposed to grab
the audio and video I don't know it's
not doing it whatever it probably won't
have audio 1
yeah there's no audio on this clip I see
there's no audio I know what is it says
mono so whatever because i have so many
stereo tracks maybe i did a new one then
it would make a new mono audio track
just just to clear pairs
we just want the video in fact let's
just ctrl z to get that audio off
ok it's going now we just want to get
the video so we grabbed it and put it in
and you know we want to start and stop
right there
now we can go from another piece of
video
now you can get clever and real clever
and say you want to take that whole
piece and slow down to shrink it a good
way to you can right-click and do speed
duration and you can do about whatever
percent but a better way to do it
visually is used the rate stretch tool
you press X or do the rate stretch tool
then you could drag it down to that .
see how it snaps when snapping right
here is on so it snaps right into it
so let me put more few more clips in
there and now they've got a bunch of
clips in there you can play it
let's see if it well played at the end
but you can when you say you want to
have transitions between clips if you go
to effects you have video transitions
and there's tons of transitions but
there's one that's always default
i'm going to go to dissolve dip to white
yet let's dip to black
if you right click it and set as default
within any time you in a transition
point in the video is selected you press
control D and it makes that dip the
Black Sea the dip see the dip the black
it makes that and in the settings you
can change it and you could go to each
one can control D and I can go back
sorry i was on the phone and I could do
dipped yci change the default transition
to dip to white and I'm gonna do if you
dip to whites
let's go back and do a additive dissolve
select a default and then do the last
two as that and and then you could do
ctrl ctrl shift D to do the audio
transitions and there's a default for
that as well and say at the very end of
the video you want to end
you want the sky to be flying and then
you want to fade out you see this bar
here the same thing with the audio of
the drop-down if you control click
you'll see a little + click it and then
at the end you click it again you could
fade it out so that video is going to
fade out and let's take the song and
faded out to over a little bit long
and then I'm gonna go and grab that
image i had and then click that image
and just tracking drag and drop that
over here and let's show you how to how
to animate and move and zoom in on
things you could do this on everything
i'm selecting whatever you select you
you have effects controls for so i'm
selecting this logo and I want to make
it zoom in overtime this is the length
of the clip so like right about here
it'll be I'm going to drop down my
position on my scale
it'll be a hundred percent and then
right here it'll be at zero percent so
what it does is it goes
Shh see that whoa
you can even rotate how about let's do
this rotation right here and then over
here let's have a rotate backwards a
little bit so it looks like it's coming
in like that and then you can do the
same thing with your opacity drop your
passing down and set a keyframe keyframe
for a hundred percent right there and
you could actually bring a hundred
percent a little bit back and set the
zero percent so it's kind of fade in
people want me huh so uh okay
that's how you do that and then there's
all kind of video effects you can click
a video and go to any audio effects to
you can go to effect and if you want
like black and white just go to search
and type in black and white look at this
black and white flat affect driving drag
and drop and there you go black and
white instant
so you want another crazy effect like
like distort lens distortion misfire
displacement there's all kind of
craziness
misfire displacement was that do I don't
even know but let's go to the turbulent
displacement see how that turbulent to
displace that that's while and then say
if you want to have multiple videos on
top of the other you you have a bunch of
video tracks you can go and click
another video
find a spot that you want to somewhere
in and out . select the video put it on
top
that's a lot bigger and then now that's
on top which you can actually click the
video or go to effects controls and then
just scale it down and see how it just
scales down you drag it move it any way
you want
we don't want that on there that's just
if you want to do that and then once you
have your final movie you're going to
want to go to export media and then
you're going to select the format you
need
I like going quick time NTC or either
mpeg-4 or a vis don't mean it depends
you can you
this will be a trial basis for you maybe
try impact for or how about a quick time
and use another program to compress it
even further and then there's your video
to upload online and this is what this
video turned out looking like
