Atlona Optical/Digital Coaxial 2-Way Converter

Atlona's AT-AD-2 Toslink/Coaxial Audio converter is a great little gadget for those who need to convert optical to coaxial or coaxial to optical or even input a single optical or coaxial and get both outputs working simultaneously. With it's built-in amplification feature, AT-AD2 can also serve as a repeater of audio signal and extend (double) the standard transferring distance.

cool little bitty problem atlona it's
going to be extremely useful for any
serious home theater PC home theater
users got a big surround sound system or
you're upgrading and maybe your old
super awesome receiver does not have the
inputs or outputs that your new box has
or you know whatever you might be using
your blu-ray player might have FB diff
and your old receiver uses toslink that
really messes things up this is the
first converter I ever seen and it's

here's how this works this is a a
bi-directional not only is it a a
converter but it's also a booster it's a
distribution booster just read an
amplifier so here's what happens you can
input on this side either coax or
toslink it doesn't really matter you
select which one you're inputting here
now what happens is that it gets input
here and regardless which one you put in
both of these on the output are
activated so now not only can you do a
conversion from one to the other but you
can split them if you'd like so you
could have inputted toslink and you can
output SP diff and toslink or just
espied if the other thing you can do is
if you're going to select toslink you're
going to input toslink here select it
here and output here toss things about a
50 foot range maximum range what this
will do is it will act as a booster in
between so you use a Toslink cable to
hear 50 feet and then another toslink
cable out this way another 50 feet so
that acts as a distribution amplifier
which is very very useful for certain
people for wiring home theater systems
and stuff like that it's going to be
very very useful also if you want to
split the signal to a different receiver
you can do that as well so this is a
pretty cool device and it looks nifty
