Hands-on Rapid Innovation Accelerator at Instituto de Empresa

SUMMARY
Many people have great ideas but seldom act on them. The Hands-on Rapid Innovation Accelerator aims to equip students with the tools and insights to quickly test their ideas and gain feedback and traction. To realize these objectives, students will take part in hands-on activities, become familiar with the latest prototyping tools and in later sessions will leverage a concept called the Rapid Innovation Cycle in order to develop a new or pre-existing product or service concept.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Empower students to rapidly transcend from "I have a great idea" to "I have a great and growing product that has customer data." By the end of the course students should have a robust product development toolkit and a strong understanding on how to measure the market potential of their concepts.
LECTURER BIOS:
Chris D. McCoy. Chris is finishing his PhD degree in mechanical engineering design at University of California, Berkeley (May 2012). In addition to conducting research on small-scale fuel-flexible engines, he also completed the Management of Technology Program (MOT) at the Haas School of Business and received his Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering (2009); both from U.C. Berkeley. Putting his skills into practice, Chris founded two companies: www.BuddyGripper.com and www.Race4Awareness.org. In 2010, Chris received a Fulbright Research Scholarship to continue his research at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, specifically at Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Aeronáutica (E.T.S.I.A.). And most recently, in response to the economic crises observed in Spain, Chris along with the help of a diverse team, has created an all new successful course called Hands-on Rapid Innovation with 32 students from the UPM and 1 from the Instituto de Empresa (IE, Madrid). Chris´s research receives support from U.C. Berkeley, E.T.S.I. Aeronáutica, U.S.-Spain Fulbright Research Grant, and a visionary Spanish business angel.

Zubin started his career working on a virtualization solution, a precursor to cloud computing, for microprocessor design giant, Synopsys back in 2000. The lessons learned from this initiative are still being leveraged today by Synopsys and Zubin himself at his startup, mashpan. mashpan, is now in beta mode and has been selected as one of the top twenty most promising technology projects in Europe by premier European accelerator, Seedcamp.
