Henry wordsley was tantalizingly close
to becoming the first man to cross the
Antarctic unaided the 55 year old former
british army officer was just 30 miles
short of making the record crossing when
he had to be airlifted off the ice
Henry words we spoke to The Today
programme before setting off i get to
the polar and christmas in december and
then it's downhill towards the other
side through the Transantarctic
mountains to a to pick up . on the
reservation and if something goes wrong
how much spare food do you have been
updated the 80 days does have a brother
Ben Affleck's if I love my calculations
are based on something about a seven to
five day journey Henry wordsley was
attempting to complete sir ernest
shackleton's unfinished journey to the
South Pole a hundred years ago he was a
descendant of one of Shackleton's team
in 2009 he led an earlier expedition to
the South Pole making the attempt with
two other descendants of the original
expedition here in training for the
dangers they knew lay ahead and write
yeah how are you okay yeah I'm all right
back on Prince William was patron of the
expedition said he was a man who showed
great courage and determination and we
are incredibly proud to be associated
with him but it's for the day of great
paddler I mean Henry will be a huge loss
to the adventuring world of the fact
that he very rarely nearly made it any
third of our short his gold makes it the
subways the worse it is final statement
from Antarctica Henry words he said he
was sad that he had to pull out so close
to completing his historic journey
but he'll be remembered like his hero
Shackleton his bravery and spirit of
exploration go see news
yeah
