Oracle APEX Tutorial (06 of 20) - Import data using tools in SQL Workshop

This video uses a utility in SQL Workshop tools to upload data into a table. The file with data is included with the SQL scripts are available through a URL which is shown in the first 3 or 4 videos. This video series will demonstrate several APEX features: building tables, importing data, building forms and reports, shared components, and more.

now we'll use a feature in a pix that
allows us to import data that's already
been created without using insert into
scripts this time I'm going to go to
utilities and i'm going to use the data
workshop to import data into the
projects table that was the only table
that wasn't populated when we ran the
insert into scripts so i'm going to open
up the data workshop and i want to add
text data I want to upload it and it
will go to an existing table and it will
be i'm going to upload a file so i click
Next and it'll go into the student teams
schema then I'm prompted for the name
and the name of it is projects i click
Next notice again i fly through this
because I've done it a few times you
have this nice outline of the key or
major steps in this particular wizard
that we're stepping through so you see
where you are in the process of
completing this load data wizard and
you'll see that in many instances when
you're building things within apex so
i'm going to choose a file and this will
be the file that says projects data
whatever the actual file name is in the
file that you downloaded the fields are
separated by a comma and the text is
actually enclosed by double quotes there
is no row containing column names so
i've modified some of the parameters
here i click Next and because i have no
column names defined in my tape in the
file to import i will select those names
now and it's actually telling you what
the data is in that file so it's much
easier for you to figure out which
column you want to assign that data to
so this is the project name and this is
the client name
now project ID is going to be populated
automatically by the trigger that gets
the value from the sequence for the
project stable and so I load the data
and we see that six rows succeeded and
that's how many rows of data we had i
can again go back to the SQL workshop go
to object browser and I can look in the
projects table and select the data tab
and I now see that the data has come in
the primary key has been populated with
the trigger for this table now we're
ready to start building an application
