Converting PDF to Text

OnSong allows you to display many types of files, but only text-based chord charts can make use of all of OnSong's features such as formatting, chord detection, transpose/capo or lyrics projection. This tutorial shows you how to import some files from Dropbox and convert them from the song editor in OnSong. We also show you how to switch the song back to a PDF so you can finesse the text later.

hi my name is Jason kickline and i want
to show you how you can easily import
songs from dropbox such as PDF or Word
documents and then convert them into
text right within on song on some works
best with text-based chord charts most
music that you encounter maybe PDF or
Word documents autozone has a built-in
way to convert these documents so you
can make the most out of on some so
let's get started first we'll go to the
songs button in the upper left hand
corner tap on the plus button to import
we're going to import from dropbox and
scroll down to my test folder here in
here you can see I have a number of
files PDF and word documents i'm going
to select all and then import once
they're finished they're located in my
all songs folder let's pick a song on
some will view the song as a PDF as we'd
expect if we go to the display
preferences menu we can see that we
cannot make any changes to our
formatting or two are you can transpose
a song or k poet really any of the
functions that you come to expect with
on song so to do that go into the song
editor and here you'll see that on some
has a blank song we do put in the title
of the song and you can also set
metadata about the song even though it's
a PDF such as the tempo or duration of
the song so let's convert the fault
the file will tap convert file and
you'll see on sun will immediately
convert that to attack space format if
you have a PDF that is not a text-based
PDF such a scanned image on song will
upload it to a OCR webservice this will
allow on some to read the contents of
the file as if you were reading it with
your eyes if this looks good to us we
can make some changes if we want
let's just see how it works
here we have a converted version of that
file and now we can come up here and
change the font color if we wish you may
find places in the song that can use
some help for instance i saw in here
that the the bridge had a colon and then
some chords following it
this may cause the court should not be
recognized so we can easily fix that in
our song editor that done and now the
courts will be recognized if let's say
you don't want to use the text based
version or there's some editing you need
to do and don't have time to do it you
can switch back to the PDF version by
turning on the use the imported file
instead of on song turning that on will
keep your text changes but use the PDF
file so that's how you import songs from
dropbox and convert them to text you
