Randomly Composed melody... using various software
Composed in Musical Palette - Melody Composing Tool 3.7
Embellished using FL Studio 9
No musical knowledge other than what I have tried to learn in the past few months...
I have used several pieces of software up to this point in an attempt to wrap my brain around the concept of how music is actually made, harmony, melody, etc... Cannot read sheet music at all at this point, and manual playing is not very good either at this stage. I sort of understand the concepts that music theory outlines, but much of it is written well beyond my comprehension level. I do, however, seem to be able to put together the components that make a pleasant melody outside the software, but it is definitely much quicker and easier to do it using the software to assist.
I think that I have devised a method to generate a melody line from a written verse... so that I do not forget: Outline follows...
1. Compose a line... write it down the wording may need to be tweaked later.
2. Input this line to "Scandroid" scansion software to get the stress outline. The more rhythmic the line the better the results, so now is the time to adjust the lyrics as needed.
3. Cross reference these stress patterns with the classification of rhythmic meter chart (on poetry) and replace the stresses with the notes given.
4. Choose a contour (from the chart of 9 types) depending on desired effect. With this contour set the melody into Musical Palette and select harmony according to an appropriate chord progression (picked earlier)... Have tinkered with the various contours and have written down impressions created by each.
5. Judge/Estimate how well the given notes fit into the desired measure (if too lengthy compress them) - (if too short expand)
6. Listen to the melody and compare it with the lyric... adjust as needed.
7. Save as midi and import into FL Studio and use it to embellish further. Then repeat...
