Folger Tech Cloner 3D Printer Bowden Extruder Conversion

Just so everyone knows, the stock setup and extruder is NOT bad at all. You can easily get fantastic prints with it, but you will need to run a little slower speeds. In my drive for speed and efficiency, I did this conversion as an experiment, and it seems to be working.

This should work on other printers of this style.

part of my ventures into making this a

one of the smaller steppers this is the
stock extruder that the corner and only
has so this is a 2.6 kg/cm motor whereas
something like the castle here has one

know this is the bigger motor is also
the Y motor went back there is also the

two motors of the two sizes usually with

fine for most prints but this print was
working on was it was like three hours
long so about an hour and a half in this

know was malleable enough to where it
wasn't being fed up correctly so it was

I'm gonna go over a little bit what
you'll need it if you want to do this if
I forget things than I forgot it and

direct drive so there's two extruders
its motor motor and you know they hold
of them through just like that issue
with that is we have the motor sitting
on the carriage like the person does the
same thing the motor is actually the
carriage you're gonna have a lot more
momentum with more weight or more mass
technically but whatever so because of
that you can have a little bit of
backlash when it's changing directions
really quick so you have to run a little
bit slower for it to look better quality
so doing it this way you're completely
eliminate all the weight that was on it
so I seen massive improvement
the quality of my prints so let's see
what I can show you one back here we
have this plastic amount this is
actually 3d printed this is a motor
mount for mixtures are building
conversions for the MakerBot replicator
the original one which is what the
corner is a copy oh so this is now of
course you seen the clip that I just
showed where I had the original motor
stepper motor for the extruder for the
quarter was the smaller stepper riches
2.62% whatever it is it was overheating
so this is actually the larger one which
is what the cost is for its external and
it's bad as well and this thing does not
good at all when you turn it correctly
it's great it works perfectly for this
application so if you're going to do
something like this
least this new monitor preferably one of
the bigger I think it's 428 or 5.2 kg/cm
stepper motors
this plastic bit there is a mere decide

this part is fading right here the PTFE
tubing that comes with the cloner is not
the correct size for about and set up
this PTFE tubing my god I got a few
shooters in the mail it comes with it's
believed
1.7 tribal 1.8 millimeters in diameter
by two or three outer diameter I don't
remember this is little sitting that's
meant to send a whole
you know you can actually do this
whenever I change phones or whatever I
have to actually do this to help guided
and it's not automatic but yeah that's
basically is the end the creek PTFE
tubing for the filament is you don't
want the film and down a lot of room
Expedia too big that it comes with it's
basically just kind of a guy more than
anything but for a balance of you need
to be almost exactly the same diameter

for 1.75 millimeter film and I don't

an extra that I got in the mail actually

tape here on this heatsink there's a
little spacer
3d printing things like quarter-inch
thick but it works as a spacer because
there's no motor here when you move it
over to the in stock has to be there to
trigger the motor looks horrible if you
don't have that little space in their
the heat sink or even if you don't have
it you sink isn't going to be able to
hit the and soft and it'll just keep
crashing into it and then something good
and bad things I do that so just let me
know that that's why that's there you
know so it triggers the same stuff over
here so if you do get into those kind of
adventures that's what you're gonna need
is really pretty simple just another
motor that was like $8 this plastic
parks which I printed you know you have
to have a working printer but assuming
you're gonna have won if you're doing
this

process I can do more so that's good but
not everyone has that you know this to

you do lose a little bit of billed
height when you do this because how the

sits flush with the aluminum block down
here because this is threaded in there
you're losing like quarter of an inch

up to this so you will just see how the
little bit I actually change out my
heart and as well so I actually had to
take a little another piece of 3d
printed something
tape it up here just so there's a little
bit of a spacer for this Zn stop over
here because they didn't have enough
travel to allow this to work so by the
way this is a custom adjustable can stop
all make more about that really short
one has really cool completely designed
it myself and it works so much better
than the stock system so like the video
if you want to see something like that
but yeah this is actually it works
really well this whole system of down on
the corner I didn't like how it was
printing when I had it set up especially
since this i did i do have the dual
shorter version so I had both motors on
there and it was so damn heavy in this
thing with this was all around and I
didn't really like it so this way
eliminate a lot of weight on the
six-yard run the on this carriage so you
do get really good quality prints from
its I will also know that I have these
guys here on here and they go underneath
the bearings and wrap around and come up
the front basically what I was noticing
is where the plastic wraps around the
bearing there was a little bit of play
because of that and it would cause a
little bit of play and play 3d printers
is no good so I just wrapped around his
taking these as much as I can and
basically just kind of squeeze the place
against the bearings little better and
also did the same thing as well I have
to do a little bit with the cherished
it's not really meant to do that but it
works
kind of thing so keep that in mind and
other than that
you know to 2 a.m. but it's not a super
detailed super nice and all that but
seriously if you have the time and do
you want to do a little bit of
experimentation with this with this
printer I highly recommend checking this
out because it doesn't work really well
you do have to draw a whole so that tops
repairs for Top Mountain the bottom one
is that there it won't focus but you get
the idea that when I actually use a
shorter screws so they didn't need to
put an add on to it and it's it's pretty
secure its not going anywhere because I
didn't print this and PLA plastic
actually it worked when the previous
thing happened when the motor overheated
so I did have to reprint this originally
but with this big ass motor on it now it
doesn't get very hot so he like last
week will work for this if you're
wondering the only thing I will notice
that the whole that this whole system
you know they go straight through past
the extruder and everything I would win
that with a drill bit if you can't
because it's a little tight just let you
know but yeah this is proof of concept I
mean this is a complete how-to on how to
do this you really have to be in
designing things if you want to try this
out but this is a proof of concept that
it does work in the prince that I've
been getting out of this since I've been
doing since I did this is actually
really really nice actually check you
