Formats and Margins
To change page format or margins, select the "Format" menu, then select "Page"
You can select a pre-defined format. The preview pane shows the new layout.
You can also change the width and height of the page dimensions.
You can also change page margins. Watch the preview pane change.
When you accept the changes, your document layout shows the results.
You can change page margins by clicking and dragging with the mouse.
Line Spacing
To change line spacing, right-click in the document.
Select "Line Spacing" and make a choice.
To change line spacing for a block of text, first select the text.
Left-click and hold. Move the mouse to select a block of text. Then release the mouse button.
Then right-click to select "Line Spacing".
Fonts and Styles
To change fonts, use the toolbar.
You can also change the size and styles.
Styles include: bold, italic, and underline.
You can also change the style of existing text.
Bullets, numbering, and indenting
To add bulltes or numbering, left-click and hold your mouse.
Move the mouse to select a block of text. Then release the mouse button.
Now click the bullets or numbering image on the toolbar.
When you insert a new line, numbers and bullets continue.
To indent your text, click the indent image on the toolbar.
You can also remove the indent.
Editing
To copy text, first left-click and hold down the mouse button.
Move the mouse to select a block of text. Then release the mouse button.
Then click the copy image on the toolbar.
Click in the document where you want the text to appear.
Then click the paste image on the toolbar.
To move text, first select the text.
Then click the cut image on the toolbar.
Click in the document where you want the text to appear.
Then click the paste image on the toolbar.
To undo a change, click the undo image on the toolbar.
To restore the change, click the redo image on the toolbar.
To undo multiple changes, click the arrow next to the undo image on the toolbar.
You can also restore multiple changes, by clicking the arrow next to the redo image on the toolbar.
You can search for text and optionally replace it. Click on the binoculars.
Enter text to find. Enter replacement text.
You can click "Replace All" to make all changes immediately.
Or you can search for each occurrence of the text. Then decide if you want to replace it.
Spell check
You can check the spelling in your document.
Select the "Tools" menu, then "Spelling and Grammar".
It immediately finds the first spelling error in your document.
You can ignore the error by clicking "Ignore Once". Ignore all occurrences of this text by clicking "Ignore All".
You can select from a list of possible corrections for this error.
Click "Change" to fix this error, or click "Change All" to fix all occurrences of this text.
You can also type your own correction.
When you make a choice, "Writer" will position to the next spelling error.
Thesaurus
A thesaurus helps you find synonyms for a word.
First, click on the word
The select the "Tools" menu, then "Language", then "Thesaurus".
Many choices are shown. Make your selection and click "OK".
Printing
To print your document, select the "File" menu, then select "Print".
Here you can choose the printer.
You can choose which pages to print. Use dash for a page range, and semicolons for single pages.
Choose the number of copies to print.
Select "Collate" to preserve the page order when printing.
Click "OK" to print.
