in this video we're going to send email to an email list using a standard email client
like Outlook Express in this example, and
for the video I've set up a very small
list consisting of just two members, and
I've set up my client which is Outlook
Express so that I can read the mailbox of
one of those members and I can see the email
What I'm going to demonstrate to you
is how you send email, and how you'd send email to an
internal list
internal to an organization, and how you'd
send email to an external list like club
membership list, or even a marketing list.
So let's start with the internal list
and we're just going to create a new email
we're going to send it to the list, and
so this is a standard way of doing it to
an internal list. Now I can add other email
addresses on the too line, or on the cc
line, and then I send it. Now if I go
and look at what the recipients will see,
there is the email there, and you can see
the recipient here which is test user
three can see who the email was sent to
see the addresses there. You might see
the the names there, or you might see the
full email addresses there, it depends on the the way the email client has sent it,and the
way the email client has addressed it.Ok
now it's no problem actually for the
recipient that he can actually see the
email addresses or the the names of the
the list members because it's an
internal list so you not normally
worried about the addresses or the names
being visible to recipients.But when
you're sending to an external list you are you should keep those email addresses and
names confidential. So the way you send
it to an external list is
And this time we are going to use the BCC line and it's not visible here
but it will be from there. And the too
field I could leave blank, not advisable
to leave it blank, what you normally do
is set it to an address that you don't
mind all the recipients seeing. So say this
is a newsletter I'd send it
from newsletter to the newsletter
address. Ok so now we put a message in there and we send it.
Let's go and have a look at the email
that the recipient see.So you can see
here that the too field is there and you
can see that you can't see the email
addresses of the other recipients and
that is because when we sent it we used
the BCC line.So when you sending to an
external list using a email client like
Outlook Express, outlook, Windows Live
Mail, and any other email clients then
You use the BCC line for the list addresses. Now
for the too line you use a known address,
one that will be recognized by the
recipient. In this case I've used news
letter. This method actually works
very well with small lists, it works very
well with what I call informal lists,
club lists, but if you're using it as a
Marketing mailing list for business then
usually you want this to
be personalized. So you want this to actually show the recipient, the actual
recipient's address, and to do that you
can't use a standard email client. What you
need to use is a some kind of mailing
list software to do that the mailing
this software will actually address each
email individually. It will take the the
email list and create an email for each
member of the email list rather than
sending it to the single email to the
list itself. Ok so that's the end of this video- How to
send email to a mailing list using a
standard email clients like Outlook
Express.
