Initial Book/File Holder - Dorm Room DIY

Hi! In this video I explain how I made an initial book holder/file sorter. It was very easy and pretty quick to make and they are very cute! I thought this would be helpful in my dorm room to hold folders and notebooks.

hey guys today we're gonna be making an
initial book holder to hold all of your
binders folders notebooks whatever you
need for your school or office anything
like that
I wanted one for my dorm all right let's
get started
so what we're going to need first is
that skinny would that you see in the
back of Michael's that stuff
mine is 3 16 x 4 x 24 inches then you'll
need to beg initials on your first or
last name i don't think it really
matters and make sure it's the bigger
size that they sell at a craft store an
exacto knife to cut your wood e6000 my
favorite industrial strength glue spray
paint so that you can make it all look
cohesive and attractive
I chose white just because all my other
desktop is white and then you need a
tape measure or ruler
mine happens to be Pinocchio a pencil so
that you can mark where you measured and
folders for size reference
all right jump right into it
we are going to now measure our folder
this is my biggest folder so that's why
i chose to measure this one
and when we have these dimensions are
going to translate them onto our would
make sure that you do several notches
because one could be wrong and you just
want to make sure like measure it
several times because it cut once
measure twice
I think that's the same
yeah
then we'll do the same thing for our
longer piece and you should have a
little bit left over depending on how
big your books are how big your wood is
probably gonna be different for
everybody but I had a little extra piece
left over at the top if you don't like
look you because that's one less thing
to cut and then I grab the CD because
that's just what I had and using a
straight edge i didn't put this in the
materials because you can use your
folder but you just want to bear down
pretty hard to carry exacto knife and
cut on the straight edge so your line is
as as straight as you can get it and on
just cut until it's two pieces and it's
actually didn't take as long as I
thought it was going to make then you'll
just do the same thing for the top piece
until you have two pieces that are the
links of your arm holder that you
measure or finder or whatever it was
that you measured so once you have your
two pieces you'll get your glue back out
and you want to just draw a line of glue
on one of the people's you don't need to
do it on down and it doesn't matter
which one you do at home job as close to
the edges you can get it as well that's
important
put the blue cap back on your group i
cannot stress this enough because it is
industrial strength and it gets
everywhere and it's hard to get up there
are not playing around
and when you put the two pieces together
your press down kind of family and make
sure that you get it into a right angle
I use like box things i use square
things to make sure that it was a right
angle while I was drawing
here's what I used I felt like such a
goober
when I was looking at this but it worked
really well
so in about 20 or 30 minutes it should
be sturdy enough for you to be able to
do more stuff with it and I
I weigh it down on its side with the
initial and you'll get your pencil out
so when you have your pencil out you're
going to draw lines anywhere that the
initial touches the wood
so there's no guesswork you don't want
to just put glue in random places and
hope that it's right
we are just drawing these lines just to
be sure so we know exactly how much glue
exactly where to put it and it's easier
when you're lining it back out to
actually go together
it's easier to see where you need to put
it and when you're putting the glue onto
the wood do not feel bad if you use a
lot of blue better safe than sorry
and it dries clear so if you were really
heavy-handed with the group nobody's
gonna know and make sure you get it on
all your lines in all the places that
you don't mess it up in the long run you
want to make sure that it's going to
stay there for a really long time
I like mine back down just to make sure
I got it as close to the edge i got the
initial as close to the edges i could um
I don't want to waste space and have
like irregularities in lining it up and
stuff so you and press firmly and make
sure that it's lined up as well as you
can and this actually didn't take as
long as the wood on the would bid to dry
yeah
so when that side is dry we're going to
do the same thing with the other side
grab your other initial and line it up
and it seems like that they're they're
cut to be the same but not the same
so line it up as good as you can so that
it just looks good on you can it may not
be exactly right on but just get it as
close as you possibly can to be exact
and then you draw your lines again put
your glue on again just like we did
before and once you have put your glue
on you our will get your initial and
make sure you press it down firmly and
this time when you're lining up the glue
and the initial make sure you get it as
close to the edge as you can because if
you remember other side is as close to
the edges we could get it
so you want to be as similar as it can
be
so this is what it will look like when
it is finished and obviously you can
leave it like this i didn't even just
like the way that it looked and already
works but i wanted mine to all be one
color so I went outside and spray
painted it and this is our final product
I thought it looked really good and
obviously it works for what we wanted to
work for on and it didn't take long at
all ways i was really pleasantly
surprised
