AutoCAD how to convert a pdf to dwg in autocad 2017
In this video I go over one of the best new features in autocad 2017, importing and converting a pdf to a dwg. The new import pdf option lets you convert the linework, text, imagery and hatches from a pdf directly into a dwg drawing that you can now edit.
it's my most anticipated feature in 2017 and I am quite impressed with it, while not perfect it is a huge step in the right direction and makes the 3rd party programs that never quite worked right obsolete.
Let me know what you think about the new features and leave a comment below!

everybody Brandon hear from Kat
intentions and in today's video we're
going to import and convert a PDF into a
DWG using the new feature in AutoCAD
2017 check it out
alright let's get started so to import
or convert a PDF into a DWG you're going
to need a drawing that contains some
sort of line work text imagery something
that you want to bring in and use and
modify in AutoCAD so I've got this
drawing that I did a while back as an
example for one of the videos it's on
our title block it's got a little detail
and some contour lines so I know where
that saved i'm going to get rid of it
and here in AutoCAD 2017 you can get a
trial of it i'll put the link below
that's free right now and I think can
get 30 days so check it out otherwise
you can get the subscription which
varies in price depending on which
version you get to insert or convert a
PDF you're going to go to the insert tab
along the ribbon here and you're going
to click on PDF import
it's going to ask you for your file
going to hit enter now you're going to
browse to where you have your PDF saved
here's the example drawing and now it's
going to bring up the menu for
converting your PDF into a drawing so
you can choose what you like
imported whether you want the text
included any imagery there's none in
this drawing so I'm gonna leave that
unchecked and then vector geometry would
be the line work you do want that you
probably want Phil's brought in as
solids as well and then you can use
layers if it was created in AutoCAD
there's a chance that the layer file for
the layer data would have been included
in the PDF file so try that if it wasn't
and you'll bring it in there are no
where's you can always get it to create
object layers as well or insert it into
the current layer you're using other
import options include importing the PDF
as a single block joining the lineart
segments converting Phills two hatches
applying line weight properties and
inferring linetypes from co-linear
dashes so that will just assume that
there's a dashed line type when you are
importing a dashed line or dash dot line
rather than import each dash as a
separate line because it can tell so i
would check that one probably on if
you've got a weird dashed line or any
kind of line types i'm also going to
convert solids two hatches and we'll see
how that does so once these settings are
set you can hit ok you can choose an
insertion point or you can i let it
choose its own and leave the scale as
one or rotate it if your PF is that say
90 degrees or something
let's just drive from here and we'll see
how it does
like I said before this is a new feature
that was just included in this year's
release of autocad 2017 before you
always have to use
third-party software to do this and this
is probably the biggest reason i'll be
upgrading to 2017 so now we can see it's
finished bringing it in
let's see how did so you can see just by
hovering over some of these lines that
brought them in really well you can see
the contours are connected all the way
around
it's got text and it's even showing up
as M text you can see Sam is here for
the contour label then you can see over
here it's brought in these weird hatches
and stuff it didn't quite get the
hatching right but still it's pretty
good it did show up it didn't come in as
a hatch but it's better than nothing for
sure
same as these ones so there you go
that's how we can now insert and convert
a PDF to DWG let me know what you think
and if you had any issues so far I've
only used it a couple times but i like
it a lot
I think it's a huge step in the right
direction direction we don't have to use
third-party software if we don't want to
leave a comment below let me know what
you want me to try out next or do a
tutorial video for thanks for watching
don't forget to subscribe and like the
video
cheers and I'll walk you through
creating a layout from scratch
at the end of the video i'll show you
kind of trick shortcut that you can use
importing a template file to start let's
create a layout from scratch so you're
gonna go to the autocad button in the
top left and create new drive
