we've met so many years ago in Monaco

it's a them it took you like five years
rated very long time to write I have a
full-time job and two children and
very busy like most of us today so I
decided
when I decide I want to write a book I
didn't do it I could which was that for
5 o'clock in the morning before I get up
in left for work it is based on a true
story
it is it is tell us a story it is based
on the stories that Miami would tell me
about her life
in Greece in the typical Greek American
Way he I came to live with us after my
father died
and she would tell me stories for Life
three were two our families from a
little tiny and political satire right
off the coast
get good at Corfu and during the war my
grandmother became very friendly with
bunch of Jewish girls who were being hit
on islands when the Nazis occupied corfu
they shipped all the Jews the island
Tasha tits and much to them died
there was one family who came to live on
a island and the entire island
work together everyone it was that work
to save the family they all kept a
secret
and despite the fact not to say that
everyone would be killed
they were found hiding Jews ever kept
quiet the family was saved
so this book is inspired by what
happened on our island
and also just my love for my a on our
culture and how you remember all these
details
and you wrote this book i mean it's a
huge book I did you know what their lot
details it's it's a story that's very
rich not just in what happened on our
island during the war
but in Greek heritage and culture be
feel
a from your mouth to God's ear only
thing at a time let's have the book does
well
it is also published in Greece you know
gonna be out in the summer yes it'll be
out this summer in Greece was a very
excited about
also twelve other countries as of now
it's being translate into 13 languages
so it really is kinda the dream come
true okay

amazon and the editor status
and they love it and they loved it and
they said they want to publish in Greece
and Greek so it was very exciting for me
okay a did you get emotional while
writing
I've gotten emotional every step of the
way
from thinking about it try to get
yelling it
to now people reading it it has been
it's incredibly emotional because
it's not just a book it matches to peace
affectionate is fiction
but it means so much to me because it is
away from you honor my family and what
happened
very small story actually very large
story that no one knew
on a little island on and not just that
it was also about the bigger picture
honoring our culture you know growing up
I would look at my yeah
and I saw I basically an educated woman
dressed in black who made
side of Sabah fish head soup what I
wanted macaroni and cheese and peanut
butter jelly
I wanted to have the American childhood
and I didn't I had a very great American
childhood
and looking back now II it makes me
upset that when I was younger
I didn't realize just how incredible our
culture in our history where when I
wanted just so much to be american
and this is my way of sorta honoring
when we can Skype
feel all the more in English in American
English feel %uh

a small dish it was always a giant pot
because enough to feed a village in
and I think that's just the nature a
book who Greeks are and and
and how we love we love we love yes

and I think we see that in incredibly

yeah I miss that we come from and yes
and the typical great mom tell us about
the perception that the book heads
in in the US it you talk about being a
motion on the streets for me
a when most emotional accident is that
when people read it
the first thing they say is this makes
me wanna have a flight Greece
and if you look on Amazon if you look at
that reads if you talk to anyone who's
read the book that's really the first
part will first thing I want a great
area
and next they say I want a family like
that and then they say I'm booking my
trip to Greece
and with what's going on in Greece right
now
you know most my family still there
seeing how difficult it is and how
they're suffering
to think that a book that I wrote could
help inspire people to go there
and possibly to bring money into the
country and help promote terrorism
