the many
there
all
the
all
bomb
the
percent sure we get into it I will
apologize if I
butcher your name om you
yeah it's it's not very common in its
okay
good it's Mikel upon check
yes or a it's kinda funny because
punching
is is correct but my family actually
says
on check say and but that's because
yes its kind in callers because it's a
Polish
name originally but we we're not polish
say
she's been generations and yet
being in Germany lunch the
pronounciation is
I'm walked I guess so it's contect yeah
I Polish people I can be cringing
coyotes wrong let's roll
I didn't get it started
first home tell us a little bit about
yourself
I'm not well I E I I'm a freelance call
make
artists and manga artist Mike Epps and I
live and work in Germany
and yeah I don't have been doing this
for
on a call nearly a decade I think I
and yeah most people know me from my
many comics on TV not
and YesStyle miles
wise I should brace I me and you're all
sorts of things from
serious a more western looking things
all the way to your adorable little
cheer these in
you know cats and not a hush-hush silly
thing so it's
yet sprayberry's I think can how did you
get your start as an artist
well it's a long story actually are
how did I get started a.m. always been
kinda surrounds is by our because my
mother used to paint and
my family in general waste swims always
very supportive but
just sad anything creative
United just yeah but especially our
I think they've been a lot artists in my
family even if not if enough
if none of them really did did it
professionally or seriously aside from
my grandmother fixed
I'll yes she's I mean she's Japanese
and she's she's been a calligraphy
teacher
unser mosser runs she's you know she's
been
making her in kimono law and painting
and
also something so yeah I'll it's just
I it's just been in the family for a
while even though a arm
as I said it's nobody's done that
professionally and
say it just seem kinda natural and
I've always been joining even as a
little kid sands and growing of in
school in so doing homework
I and I it's not necessarily a good
thing
you know
just studying is very impoverished
thank them yeah at some points I think
there was just this transition you know
it's like what do I do when I grow up
and and then I read my first and Sean n
jump comic and I metres
ins that was it I spend yet this this is
well into you
I'm so I think goes around 12 when I
just decided this was
well I was gonna do and yeah
not necessarily the something my parents
like to hear her now no no
kids might my father was a banker and
well most people know that all is
know exactly in you know a tonight's
your voice not the a bit better kinda
Korean choice
is right move it along I'm so would be
fair to say that your grandmother and
mother were
big influences on you growing up yes
sorry I'm
me growing up abroad was one of the the
reasons
I go into manga is it's because it was
kind of a connection should be
culturally
back to home as I reading a Japanese
comics is just
arm
very very important to me because is
part of my identity
I'll and say I just
it was just a way of expressing myself I
wasn't actually very popular 10 is
let salons to not many friends so I'm
I'd prefer
just reading lights comics and justice
you know I
arm yeah inventing stories and just
dreaming up things instead and so yeah
had had a lot to do with my surrounding
them
being a little bit isolated from moving
all the time and
irons obviously my mother
as Japanese he did read some manga
herself and sometimes that we read
cousin
you know which we treat them together
and things and watch
any men together ans things like you
nice
and in studio Jubilee is I'll works in
things that was just
what I grew up with sorry I'm might my
munger influenced income when be an
email wave hit
Europe in america is way early onset
yeah you can publish few times cracked
yes yes abstract yep that's right how
exactly did you get into
publish well um always wanted to do it
well as I said to have I
decided with 12 years thought I was
gonna be
a manga artists area I
I had been said looking into our a loss
and you know researching and looking
around
and after I finished my I graduated from
German
a space that will be high school a I E
didn't really know what you and looks
around the light universities and things
I've been applied to
academies and got rejected I own
but eventually I just decided you know
what I can do this myself but I need the
help
whatever you know and I just and send
out
like a really my early early crappy
wacky this year to India publishes
unlock them from actually
except today we printed in and then they
invited me to go to Commons
and at the convention's IMEI just got a
direct contact leaners you just talk to
people we see what's going on
in Germany at least and and
that way I got into contact with a lot
other publishers
and what they eat you know it what kind
of things like a carbon
and what sort of things I could do
within the scene not just
making comics those also teaching doing
workshops
a.m. you know going on stage like
doing talk some things and I just edges
actively take part in all of our
and
1 well ask which on a 2000
tender something I actually hired a talk
in the like tick tick fair which is
wanna Germany's biggest
pics well picked I think its biggest
picture and
I had my stage across take a call say to
the main stage was pretty much facing
take a cop station
I ends a my workshop was the first thing
in the morning and there was nobody
there but
should like 3p processing unit and
and so I just I was very nervous but I
did buy talk and I was talking about
paneling and just did what I do you well
unites
the art bits on sketch disc a few things
demonstrate what to do and then
ended it with well you know I've got my
one table over there
and if anybody wants in you know you
talk a bit more on
all be I'll be there in five minutes
sons and so on and then
when I went by I the see ya have taken
part was standing up my and be friends
waiting for me to come back and then we
have a little chat need he bought my
crappy little first comic and arm
and yeah and then I think a week later
he emailed me and asked me if
info always interested in hearing his
opinion on my butt comes
and so we start talking and eventually
they offered me I am
a project to take part in and
well us I was the beginning and now
there's five picks on
great yeah tell us a little bit about
some
your publish works them for example
I'm just surely going on your even our
account
hmm it seems like crazy from that last
was twenty year first slash early
projects
me yes that's just a little bit about
lost and found %uh
her lost and found most my first I'm
manga that was like full-length half got
like 200 pages do something probably
are everything credibly minsky I mean
it's a story about
arm its boys lost so your aunts arm
kind of you kno Inc a romantic
relationship between two guys and things
and it it kinda tackles the topic
bullying
a after coming out arm unintentionally
in special
and and a well
creatively obviously it's very very old
its I think
2007 is is when it came out first
I'm II you have a difficult time looking
at it now
I good but hair styler this story what
is it about
sounds little hard to to I think or
like all a bit a storyline
I didn't really know how other people
maids Mon guess I just tried in there
was an experiment
so I didn't really know what works what
doesn't how much time I have how much
time might need
I I didn't have a script as I just so it
started drawing and
you know if so how went in just went
with it so
thing artistically all this is just also
copping say much about us a bit outdated
but some but you know it was still very
very interesting experience obviously
interests the thing that everybody
should do you is
a you know bring out something that
isn't an epic
home he knows phiri's first you have to
try with a small thing for us to see how
things go
and then you can't do better next for
say
yeah I'm camp
to project one its order your you're
playing right now
League school ru
I'll Brazil Spurs economic concept your
story with
or is it something plant all well
at this point it really is still just at
an idea
up is one of the so universe is over
already
built a little bit but I haven't really
sat down to bright
story yet have a vague to move a
outlining going on but not really a
Arsalan story at
arm but yeah it's I'll
it was originally a possible future
projects for take a pope
but a then my editor
found out about crash and burn I we
decided to go with that one instead
which is why not yeah the restore a is
incomplete but I do plan on eventually
you know picking a pack of being
you writing it a little bit more it
you know it's like some some I do me too
steer bit
finance fit around right for the best
sleeping
right yeah that's actually a good
being insanely passion words sir current
project broke
yeah it's its I'm not working on any
more because it's
it's already a complete its speech yes
its its two volumes and the story's been
told in spades published in Germany
and I'll I have been tossed
whether or not always good choice third
party in but
that is something I'm not really sure
yet arms
I'm I do have material for third one
we'll see
just every you through your slice
late comics comes with a minimum them
like in a big step for you
um it was a it was coincidence
Chau 0 it started out with just
a gift for arm my then boyfriend
say in his it was his birthday and I
didn't know what to draw and i just
decided to draw myself
freaking out about what to draw and
on and that just cost so popular that
I just decided to do not every year so
friend's birthday and Christmas
I always always /param one story of
things I actually happened are more or
less exactly how I jury them
I mean obviously I I exaggerate specific
things for comedic value but
um but essentially it's it's all things
that happened and it's very very
personal
are soho arm
yeah and now it's just become a thing I
a car really
not draw them beacons apparently that's
what people very small leftist
ok I didn't even know you know I was
being a you know
shed on reddit 9gag feel that all the
time
as on a allotted inside say I explains
all the watermarks
on yeah just mention it bitches
several kinds promoting your word doing
workshops yeah writer Sameer were
memorable experiences
in wall thinker I'm
very recently with crash burn
arm well you don't like me being a
Polish artist
is me as amazing as people are thinking
is you don't always or smashed you have
Syracuse and people waiting to meet you
and things
so when Crosman came out and I wasn't
expecting
too much speakers I'll hides many other
pics out there was like yeah
your name it's nice and people yeah
sometimes notice that
when crash and burn came out and
it sold out pretty much within two
months
up so yeah and I did not expect that one
bit say
the column that I went to dry off to the
release
arm it sold out and the queue when
its all the way to the end and that the
whole
I just didn't know what was going to
happen next
nice very own yellow is kinda crazy cuz
when I D signings
use me I have you know hunt for the
people waiting and then
I'll sometimes there's nobody there and
I just sit around and wait for somebody
to show up in your
you know ask for signature this time
actually hides the entire row of 4.2
like finish job hunting very quickly
towards the end because
you know they had to be sent away people
had to stand pat had to be sent away
because
there's no time left how is crazy hands
at the same caught on I actually met and
a girl who cost players Kyle from crash
burn
and Bowers amazing you I'm a call of two
but simply cost played
cue me I hands I almost about somebody
actually
did a photoshoot at Tyler and Kyle and
send it to me and that was
I was also a I'm just cost play in
general
i think is assigned a chance Inc extreme
dedication
say it but not really just may be on
national TV analyst Stephen Gallacher
when I think about the people you know
put so much effort into it
jens it's one of the most satisfying
things I think as a crazy 30
to see that you know i i always insists
on taking pictures together and put them
up on my blogs and pics right
so yes they do exist on my toddler I
think I
yeah with 30-year what's your dream
project did
bomb I think
a right now I it always changes
carry like depending on what happens
ahead
right now I think dream project to me
would be and
I kinda embarrassed %um
like that life life action bpm
crash and burn it's nothing on the walls
but
if I pips if I could somehow have the
you know the ability to you are take
like action actively take part in
something about that would be
amazing I think arm a lot of people have
asked me whether or not
I wanted as a on email series or movie
years but only a
but I can't really see it that way I can
only see
as a Aston actually live action thanks
I've tried to ensure
the characters as real people hands
I think about being yeah I've been a
dream but
I also rainy want to you if possible
at some point have some of my stuff
published in Japan
on I'm kind of curious had eight
Haqqani view it simply because it's such
a
strange mix on kiss
my pacing and storytelling is very much
leaned on the Japanese language in the
to the rhythm have the traditional manga
out while
my style has been you of people have
been telling me that
it looks somewhat more western instant
in certain areas like the
ok the element realism not to end
when it comes to creating characters
biggest
in japan it's all very important I'm
architect archetypes just exactly ends
iight try not to do not saying
I'm curious but they're not I would be a
popular aren't people would hasten it
may be yeah
but aftermarket I'd like to get into
on down funny enough France's welcomes
france has an amazing art scene
a especially in comics & a
French United comics up
and I think as an artist
gaining the respect to these people I
admire very much would be
yeah pretty yeah something nice
didn't am notice that
your many comics most down mainly you
many comics
some your Instagram photos that you
handed
exactly how we catch to you it hits you
should yeah every
every like good three-year many comics
it seems like there's always a different
yeah of best rate
well I didn't have a different cuts
before the case and the relationship I
was say
and they were my actions catch
but they were obviously still you know
we spend time together as they're also
kind of my cap to time I'll now that
things
haven't worked out between us I've got
my own two cuts
so right now it's black and the white
one ok
to depicted you owns the tankard
appeared in your
London trip your holiday injured 0 well
that's it
yes now is the cut be a
family are staying a cleaning hours the
Norwegian up for us
cat newest here is just a regal
I could your winer
couple here guilty pleasures
I'm well I do you have one on
us rather silly actually arm
I really don't like much Japanese music
but
there is a jar of Japanese music I quite
enjoyed
on its a it's called it's called Hancock
and its it's generally in Japan mice
popular with very very old people but
sec it kinda like God it's kinda like
old hope music mixed with very cheesy
ballads and things and I I really like
it for its
its campy a quality really because
it is very freely sorry but 0
yes I never know what I'm gonna get one
st question it's my favorite question
asked sorry
despite it's quite entertaining
vs up enough stop by my mother and 30
she's like oh how old are you to you
like dust great I mean just list to this
lady thinking about arriving into her
stock a cup
because her lover left her and you out
since seen
and it's just her dramatic and stupid
but I love it because it's a stupid
I own say that occasionally I indulge in
that means it's
pending offenses co-ed like the style is
thinking is very cute she is well stay
but sweeeeet p.m. laptops
on staten look very cool am
was summoned this advice that you
said me out
good does a couple actually
um I E
have like amid a guy who's kind of like
my mentor
and the thing is he's not into call
makes anything he just traditional hard
and one of the things he said got stuck
with me
earn twice already advice I guess when
he's he's given me advice is fasting
against Manchester he said ever
people always interesting because I was
trying people and I i got worried
join people might get boring March
hucksters doing it for Paul failure and
I was like I'm trying to impress
someone with a cough ADA and I'm like
that's all just
people are enjoying any site there are
eight people are always interesting
announced and the older I get the more I
I find that that's the truth people
every single person has different
experiences in life
and has a story to tell and it never
gets boring so that's one
he also said that when you draw that you
have to draw
things are visible as well I didn't
understand what he meant
by lapd but and it
it what he meant to start a lot of
things in a painting can point to think
that you don't see
sorry Armin like three-dimensional
thinking
is is one of those things right each or
three dimensional object you don't we
CE but something is rounds for example
those around you don't sit back a bit be
no its
around in the back and things soak
things like that or
things are covered up uniting faces
aren't quite sure you know something he
still the the mind completes the
stuff but you don't see and in in the
head right on
that's the image together like a puzzle
on things sorry doing all well as
about creating the solution
as there being more timid as the same
which stories
right you give away a little bit I'm
people want to know the rest
that's cuz your credit hinting at
something that they don't see yet
so that was somewhat everything that's
really stuck with me
soon said yeah
you yen just as a mysterious but
every day it did shape me as an artist
Mr Tsang
ok Yemeni advice where missus you like
to you
share with us Irene ours you know those
twelve-year-old
because out there in the world spur them
well I am one thing would be a
the internet is at your fingertips make
you submit
but kids a lot of things I grew up
without internet I
only got like my own computer when I was
18 yr 19 or something so it was very
late
right and but one side is I just
researched everything and
you know talk to everybody in Aus
questions and style
I still get people he asked me very very
basic questions that anybody could
google
to Skype comic
Google is there for a reason it's very
very good do you use it
doesn't mean you don't you shouldn't of
me i i don't mind on some questions its
own bed
there's so much information on the
Internet he confines
that can help you and you can pick and
choose what suits you best
nobody knows what suits you best
themself so you know
people ask me I wish I study on my I
don't know studied up
I have no clue you country you're living
and I don't let
schools safe those are the things that
you re
are just find on your own arms
may be stopping you say that's one thing
I liked pay
I am other than that min
yeah I don't know just be careful and
never give up I guess
like be cautious because or is it
difficult
is finished so don't underestimate how
much work it is
and how hard it can be but
if he dedicated don't give up this can
be very very difficult times
when they will cost as well send thanks
vehicle or hmm thank you very much
word Thank You Man for doing this
interview I deeply appreciate it
especially for your time you clearly
busy individual
had this fun thank you thank you very
much for taking the time
in it just before for a close-up
how can people support you mindell your
at the beach need an account
everything's but
yes it well
I space the best way to you actually
support me would be over
patriarch where I'm at a patron dot com
slash
nikkicole and you can support me a
I'll with a small donation every month
and get rewards
arm and yet that would definitely help
me out most
other not just sharing my work
respectfully with credit
and a yes exactly
credit her at I would appreciate to be
being almost beforehand but if credit is
given
I really don't mind at all people's
bring it so I i
even comics as long as somebody links me
back I'm always okay with it
fungi are yeah Syrian so that's not
armand even on moms on the smile don't
even up to cope
and you can find every single part for
my mom linked on my profile
I yep the end thank you for your time
think this like hanks think
