let's extract data from a website using
pattern based web data extraction let's
start by clicking on web recorder and we
will type in the URL from where we want
to extract the data in this example we
will extract the information for
healthcare homes in detroit michigan
once we type in the URL we will click
the start button when the website opens
i will type in the required txt and hit
Search
now once the list is displayed I want to
start extracting the data from the list
so i will click on extract data from the
two options that come up i will select
the pattern based data option as there
is a specific pattern in which this list
appears
from this list we will extract four
pieces of information that is name of
health care homes their addresses
telephone numbers and service area
details
first we will highlight the business
name and click on the capture button
lets select another name so that
automation anywhere can identify the
pattern it will ask you to save the name
of the field we will call it business
name to capture more fields we will
click on Add button and repeat the same
process we did for the business name
so let's quickly capture the address
telephone number
and the type of service
now that we have identified the pattern
for all the four fields i will click
next now this part is even more
interesting
we have to tell automation anywhere that
this pattern spans across multiple pages
hence we will check the box that says
this data spans across multiple pages
and click on capture button and .
automation anywhere to the actual next
link on the page that takes you to the
next page before we finish the task we
will preview the data by clicking on the
preview Data button it will show the
data in four different columns from the
first page that corresponds to the four
fields that we extracted
let's click on finish and stop the
recording
now save the task and we will give it a
name
let's click on edit button to see what
actions automation anywhere has captured
during the recording it will show you
all the actions that you recorded like
for this example you open the website
you typed in health care home
detroit michigan and hit the search
button etc exactly what we did while
recording the task now let's run the
task that we just created and see how it
extracts the data select the task we
just created and click the Run button it
will open the website
it will automatically wait for the page
to load it will perform all the actions
that you recorded and you can see the
progress bar on the right hand bottom
corner that tells the progress of the
task as you can see it is going from one
page to another and gathering data from
the list on multiple pages
the task keeps on extracting all the
data till it reaches the end of the list
and this is the csv file that the task
is generated
