Hi. Today I'm going to be showing you some
of the features of the Western Digital My
Passport portable hard drives. They come in
a multitude of sizes and colours, and they
all have USB 3 functionality, which allows
them to have the fastest transfer speeds.
They're also backwards compatible with USB 2
and are also compatible across Windows and
Mac operating systems. In the box you get
the drive itself, a micro USB 3 cable, warranty
documents, and a quickstart guide. More information
can be found online at www.wdc.com. Now, let's
get started with the setup. First, take the
micro USB3 end and plug it into the side of
the drive. Then take the USB end and plug
it into a port on your laptop or desktop.
Once the drive is connected navigate to 'My
Computer', then double click on 'My Passport'.
There are already some folders on the drive,
they are mainly user manuals as well as extra
features. There is also 'WD Apps Setup.exe'.
Double click it and It will open up the installation
for the software. Follow the on-screen instructions
for where you wish to install the software,
this may take a couple of minutes. When it
is finished installing click 'Finish'. The
software will then open. You have the ability
to upgrade to 'SmartWare Pro'. This requires
you to fill out your first name, last name
and email address. You can skip this if you
wish. On this window you are able to select
where you wish to backup from, and then where
you wish to backup to. If you're doing a whole
computer backup you usually back up from your
C drive onto the My Passport Ultra. Once these
are selected click 'next'. There are two different
options here, one is 'Category Backup', which
recognises where all of your key files are
and backs them up automatically. There is
also 'File Backup', which allows you to select
specific files and folders that you wish to
go onto the drive. Select which one is right
for you and click 'Next'. On 'Category backup',
you can choose how and when you want your
drive to backup. You can have it as a continuous
backup which backs up files as soon as they're
added to your computer, or you can schedule
one, which can be hourly, daily or monthly.
Click next, and allow it to scan for what
it should be backing up. When it has finalised
what it is trying to back up click 'Enable
Backup'. The backup plan is now complete and
will back up automatically as you add files
to your computer. Thanks for watching, I hope
this video helps you keep all of your files
safe.
