YouTube just opened up a new feature to everyone and is soon to replace annotations. It's called YouTube Cards... Some call it Info Cards or Interactive Cards. In this video I will show you how to setup and use YouTube Cards... Plus, give you my top 10 tips!

How To Setup and Use Youtube Info / Interactive Cards

This is your discreet, but yet magical YouTube
expert, Derral Eves. Now YouTube just released
the new feature and this feature’s actually
going to replace video annotations and for
a long time, I mean a long time, YouTube’s
been preaching and teaching that using these
annotations will increase your viewership
engagement and new subscribers and honestly
it really did. So it was actually best practices
to add these annotations to all the videos.
The problem was that it actually didn’t
work on the mobile phones or any device, even
my iPad micro. Now YouTube realizes this is
a problem so they actually made a new feature
called cards. Sounds intriguing right? Well
some of you might know it as the inter activity
cards that the CEO announced last year, now
I’ve been playing around with this card
feature for the last few months on a Beta,
I was one of the lucky ones that was selected
and I’ve learned 10 things that are really,
really interesting so stick around, I’m
going to show you all the ins and outs of
this card feature plus at the end of this
video I’m going to give you some key tips
what I’ve learned first hand to help you
kind of avoid some mistakes and get a higher
click through rate. Stay tuned. DerralEves.com.
Now there’s a lot of benefit to actually
using cards on your YouTube videos plus it’s
really easy to setup. The first thing that
we need to do is mouse up to the upper right
hand corner, click on your Avatar icon and
mouse down to Creator Studio. Let’s go ahead
and click that. This is going to launch your
Creator Studio. What we need to do is select
a video and to do that we come over to Video
Manager and click on that and this is going
to bring all your videos. Now what we want
to do is select the video that we want to
add those cards to and so let’s go ahead
and I want to do it on this Channel Evaluation
and basically it’s going to bring in the
edit portion and you're going to see in the
top here there’s a new feature called Cards.
Let’s go ahead and click on that. Now once
you click that, it’s basically going to
launch your video that you want to attach
the card to, let’s go ahead and hit pause
here and you can see right now, there is a
big blue button that says Add Cards. Let’s
go ahead and click that and you can see that
there’s different options that you can actually
add cards to a specific video. The first one
is the Associated website, next is Fan Funding,
Fundraising, Merchandise, Video or Playlist.
Now for this one, I’m going to actually
show you how to setup a couple of these. The
first one is your Associated Website, so let’s
go ahead and hit create. Basically if you
have your website attached to your YouTube
channel where it says associated and it’s
verified by Google and YouTube, you can go
ahead and drive traffic with the card to your
webiste so I go ahead and put DerralEves.com
in here and you can see that it’s pulling
in all the meta information so we have my
picture and title and so on for my website
and you can actually put a new title in here.
I’m going to say, Get Derral’s New Book
here for the title, keep in mind that it can
only go up to 50 characters for this one.
The call to action is only 30 characters.
Let’s do Get Your Free Book, there we go.
The great thing is if you don’t like the
image that the website has, it automatically
pulls a couple of your images from your website,
you can actually click this button to actually
upload a new image so let’s go ahead and
do that which is a book here and you can see
that I have a book coming out called, “Look
Mom! I Wrote a Book.” So I go ahead and
add the book cover to it and hit create card.
Now once I do this, this is really really
cool and you can do so much with it because
you can see right now it has in the upper
portion of it, Get Your Free Book. When people
are watching the video, they can go ahead
and click on it, whether they are on a mobile
device or on a computer and they can see an
image of your book and see your title and
see your call to action which is really cool
and the great thing about it is that you can
move this anywhere within the specific video.
So we have this timeline right here, I can
go ahead and click this and hold it down and
if I want it to come to about 5 minutes in,
you can see, oh, Get Your Free Book. You click
on it and you can see that it’s there. So
let’s go ahead and add another card so let’s
go ahead and go into it a little ways here.
I’m going to go ahead and add a card and
what I’m doing here now is Fan Funding so
if you actually have this setup on your YouTube
channel that your subscribers can donate money
to you and your channel, you can set this
up pretty easy. So let’s go ahead and click
create here and basically it’s going to
create it’s own card, it’s going to pull
your information here and you’re able to
see that. Now there’s a couple of little
glitches still in this, I just want to show
you. As it’s playing, let’s get a little
bit closer, there it is. So it says support
Derral Eves, they can click on this and it
will take them to a place where they can contribute
to the channel. Now there’s other cards
you can see that you can add fund raising
like in Patreon or Kickstarter, you can also
do Merchandise and also Video and Playlists.
I’m going to show you the last one, Video
and Playlist. If you want more information
on the Merchandise and Fundraising options,
look in the description below, and you are
able to see that as well, there’s a link
for that that shows you all the different
services that can be used. So the last one
is the Video and Playlist so let’s go ahead
and click this. It’s going to basically
going to pull up all your videos, if I want
to click on this, 100,000 subscriber thank
you video that I made a couple of days ago.
Let’s go ahead and click on that and hit
Create Card. What that does is once it’s
there, we can hit Play. See it says suggested
for this as well. So it’s pretty easy to
setup and I encourage you to watch the rest
of the video cause there’s a lot of things
that I’ve learned that you need to know.
Now before you go and add all these cards
to your YouTube video’s, you really need
to hear the 10 things that I’ve learned
while using this feature while
I was in Beta. #1 Don’t point to the card,
there’s a reason because this going to actually
show up on different devices and it’s going
to be in different places so if you point
it might not even be there so don’t point
at the card. #2 This is actually a biggy for
me. When you actually display cards, you can’t
actually use the Call to Action overlay, you
have to pick either one or the other and let
me tell you sometimes, it’s a tough pick.
#3 If you are a musician and you are trying
to sell music on iTunes, the links that iTunes
will not work on Android devices, it’s a
pain, let me tell you. #4 The branding watermark
actually moved down to the bottom right of
the video player I’m glad they actually
kept this in because in the Beta they put
it in and they took it out and I’m glad
they stuck with it and kept it in. Now #5
This card feature only works with channels
that are actually in good standing so don’t
get those copyright strikes. #6 Don’t use
these cards as spam. Now only selective few
and I’ve found when you do 3 or less, you
will actually have a higher click through
rate. #7 Spread these cards out and they work
a lot better if they are not close to each
other. Put it at key times, what I would do
is look at your audience retention, when it
starts to dip down, that’s where I would
actually put a card so make sure you spread
those cards out. #8 Cards actually work on
YouTube live events, when you’re live streaming
but I’m hear to tell you that if you use
it, it might block out certain country’s
like Germany. Sorry Germany, it looks like
you always get the shaft with YouTube. #9
I guess my fingers don’t work that well.
If you actually feature a video or a playlist
on your YouTube channel, it’s not going
to pop up if you are using a card so you have
to choose if you are going to use cards in
that video or you are going to use the featured
video. #10 Those cards don’t replace your
end card and those annotations that you actually
put on your end card, watch more videos or
subscribe, I would still do those annotations
regardless until they actually pull that feature
out because I’ve found that those that actually
convert quit well. And that’s it. cause
honestly I don’t have 11 fingers but to
be honest with you, I was actually born with
12. I was, doctors cut them off. I’m being
serious here. Now before you go, I’d love
