In this video, we'll look at common issues connecting a computer to a wireless network.
If you need to, please feel free to pause, review a previous section, or advance to a new section of this video at any time. First, you'll need the name of your Wi-Fi network and your wireless network password to connect your computer or any other device, such as a smartphone, tablet, ebook reader, or home entertainment device to your home network. Your default Wi-Fi network name and wireless network password are shown on a label on the side of your AT&T-provided gateway.
The instructions we're about to show you may vary slightly depending on the type of computer and operating system you're using. With many computers, Wi-Fi is switched on automatically, but you may need to turn on your computer's wireless connectivity. You should consult your computer's manual or manufacturer's website to learn how to do that. Now we'll take you through simple instructions based on which operating system your computer is using. For computers running Windows 7 operating system. In the system tray at the bottom of your desktop screen, you will find the wireless connection icon. Select the network you want to join. If the network requires a password, you'll be prompted to enter it. If an error message displays, you most likely entered an incorrect password. You'll need to try again with a different password.
For Windows 8 users. From the start screen, bring up the charms menu by pressing the Windows key and the C key. Then select "Settings". Select the Wi-Fi network icon to see a list of networks that are available. Select the network you want to join. If the network requires a password, you'll be required to enter it. If an error message displays, you most likely entered an incorrect password. You'll need to try again with a different password. For most Mac computers, you'll access this through the wireless icon at the top right of your screen. Click on it and make sure Airport is turned on. Scroll down and select the wireless network you want to join. Enter the password if one is required. If an error message displays, you most likely entered an incorrect password. You'll need to try again with a different password.
If you're still having trouble getting connected via wireless, please verify that your wireless network adapter is installed and connected to the Internet.
