facility in Clive.. to show us
the step-by-step precautions
they take .. to ensure the games

The days of the bouncing
balls... and a guy in a tuxedo
or a gal in a ball gown are
over. Winning Hot Lotto numbers
are now selected by a
computerized random number
generator. It's located at the
Multi-State Lottery
Association's headquarters in
Clive.
DIRECTOR "IT'S ON CAMERA AND
EVERYTHING IN THERE IS RECORDED,
AUDIO AND VIDEO."> The 2 lotto
computers that pick the numbers
are in a case... that can only
be unlocked by 2 different
people.
<"WE HAVE 2 SETS OF KEYS.">
There is also a numbered,
single-use clip.. kind of a
freshness seal.. that has to be
cut.
<"5327? YEP. CLIP."> Which of
the 2 computers do they use for
that night's drawing? They flip
a coin.
<"FLIPS COIN. TAILS? TAILS."> 2
people enter 2 different
passwords.. and out come the
numbers that can change lives.
<"AN ON MY FORM I HAVE 7, 5, 9,
26, 6... HOT BALL 8."> The
winning digits are verified
by 2 on-site staffers... and one
off-site.
