How To Backup and Restore Your DogeCoin Wallet Safely and Securely (Or any QT Client)
BACKING UP STEPS:
Step 1: Open your QT Client and wait for it to fully synchronize. Encrypt the wallet by clicking 'settings' then 'encrypt wallet'. DO NOT FORGET YOUR PASSWORD!
Step 2: Click 'File' in the top left hand corner and click 'backup'
Step 3: Select your backup destination.
Step 4: Make as many backups as you see nessecary. I recommend two physical backups (USB drive or external HDD) and one online backup by putting the .dat file into a secure password protected folder via 7zip. (DO NOT EVER UPLOAD THE RAW .DAT FILE!). Upload to dropbox, email it to yourself or place in any secure trusted cloud storage.
RESTORING STEPS:
Step 1: Redownload and install your QT Client. Do not open it yet.
Step 2: Copy your backed up wallet.dat file onto your desktop
Step 3: Navigate to the location where you installed the blockchain. Default location is My Computer/(C:)/Users/Appdata/Roaming/Dogecoin
Step 4: Delete the wallet.dat file in the 'dogecoin' folder.
Step 5: Drag and drop the backed up file into the 'dogecoin' folder
Step 6: Exit and open your QT Client.
Step 7: Wait for the blockchain to resync and you're done!
Protip: If you encounter error with your wallet, running it from the command line (Windows CMD, Linux/mac Terminal) with the arguement '-salvagewallet' will allow you to bring a wallet "back." Thanks /u/Techis1332!

hello and welcome today I'm going to be
bringing you a video tutorial of how to
backup your dogecoin wallet and then
restore it
it's going to be a step-by-step because
i actually reformatted my hard drives
not too long ago and in the process of
backing up my wallet and restoring it I
wasn't actually to shore where to do
that now look on youtube and there
wasn't very many helpful guides of how
to do that so i ended up going to read
it and asking some users there who are
very helpful and showed me how to do
that but it could have been a lot easier
if there's something to refer to and a
lot quicker as well and I probably
wouldn't have shit myself as many times
as i did in the process
so anyway this is a completely secure
way of doing that now
just bear in mind this isn't a one
hundred percent foolproof way of
securing your wallet there is several
different ways how your wallet can get
stolen so just make sure that you have
everything under passwords and make sure
that nobody else has access to a
computer who you don't know what trust
anyway enough precautions onto the
backing the wallets up itself now i open
up your dogecoin wallet the QT client
make sure all the blocks are synced put
a password on that now bear in mind if
somebody takes your wallets dots DAT
file and put it on their computer if you
don't have a password they can transfer
all your coins out to their own wallets
so just put a password on it just take
it just take my word for it and just put
a password on apps for peace of mind you
don't know when you're going to get
broken into
I mean I mean I don't really think
there's many people are going to break
into your house for the point senior
dogecoins but hey why take the chance
so anyway just put a password on it and
back it up now you're back click backup
wallets file backup wallets just call us
back up and save that to the destination
of your choice so whether that be your
external hard drive or USB stick or burn
it to a disk
wherever you want to just save that
wallet and make sure that saves all fine
so I've just saved it to the best top
here now i do recommend backing up
online as well just for the purpose of
if your hard drive fails external hard
drive fails or USB drive fails then you
have a separate backup of that as well
so just back up your back up and do that
as many times as you know you see fits
if you're going to back it up online
though i do suggest sipping the folder
up into a secure encrypted folder and
you can do this vice where websites like
7-zip and programs like 7pm and just
make sure it's secure don't ever put the
raw file online right so if everything's
going to plan you should have your
backup ready to restore after you should
after your 35 to your hard drives
transfer to a new computer whatever
redownload your cutie clients and each
will be here you go to control panel you
go to computer click on users click on
your user click on AppData click on
roaming and dogecoin now this is where
your wallet is this is the default
location and that's the way of getting
to that location is the default location
for this folder and all you have to do
is delete this so delete that while its
dot DAT file and then drag and drop your
back up into this folder i'm not going
to do this food because i don't want to
be single my coins but then you can
close that down and then restart your
dogecoin wallet and the client will pop
up and all your blocks will be reenact
singh and resyncing and if everything is
going to plan then in the unconfirmed
section of that wallet you should have
the balance of your wallets before you
backed it up and all your transactions
should appear in the history as well
they'll all be unconfirmed obviously as
the
lock change resyncing but it should be
all the all be there anyway i hope this
is of use to some people
thank you very much for watching and if
anybody has any questions please feel
free to ask them in the comments section
below
thank you bye
