so today we're going to talk about a
piece of software called disk drill pro
and this is by clever files i received a
copy of this yesterday to review and I
have to say I was a little skeptical
because I've tried these softwares
before and this is another piece of
software that claims to pull things out
of your trashcan and you know rescue
files off bad discs and you know I don't
know your wife threw away two years of
pictures and you have no way to get it
back so I was a little skeptical and I
did try the software and I came up with
a couple of different ways to test the
software one of them being i created two
files i created a text file and typed up
a sentence I think that it said
something along the lines of I trash
this file hopefully district get it back
i save the file to the desktop
i trashed the file and I continued
working on my laptop pretty much all day
long I then added another photo that I'd
dragged off the internet which was just
a picture of a kind of a funny baby
picture of a funny baby making a funny
baby face and then I trash that and
empty the trash and I went about my
business and kept working on the laptop
pretty much all night and then most of
today and I'm just getting around doing
this review right now so what we're
going to try to do
it's actually been done because I've
already done the scans at a time I want
to see if I could pull those two pieces
of files out of the trash after i had
erased them and lo and behold I did
actually get them and it's really cool
how the software works on there's a
couple other cool things about the
software first of all this is the pro
version as you can see here on the
screen so you will have to pay for the
software and not toward the end of this
video I'll put up a link where you can

really good because like i said i really
recommend this software especially for
someone like me who is an IT
professional i'm constantly getting hard
drives that are failing or I've got
issues where my users are just you know
they lost partitions and they started up
today and also another iPhoto library is
gone
you name it I've seen it in a piece of
software like this will definitely help
me
my day-to-day adventures the first cool
thing I noticed about this software is
it has a couple of extras number one up
here in the menu bar if you notice when
i'm clicking up here it gives you a
little thermometer of the you know
what's going on on your computer it's
really cool because I'm an SSD on this
computer that I'm sitting at it even
gives you the SSD where level 96% worn
it gives you the uptime of the SSD gives
you how many power cycle the SST is done
so it really gives you a lot of
information and it also checks the smart
status of the drives so we have a normal
hard drive in there it'll actually check
the smart status and alert you if the
smart ship is failing in any way shape
or form another really cool thing about
the software is you can add a piece of a
component and that piece of software
will kind of keep a silent record of
anything you put in the trash
so let's I installed this drill i
purchased it I i install this little
component that comes along with it and
this little century kind of sits in the
background and when I delete files and I
empty my trash which happens quite a bit
on my machine because I have a piece of
software called hazel it also runs and
she kind of keeps my machine tidy so
she's constantly throw away old files
this software district will kind of keep
a record of all that stuff which is
really cool so let's say I do trash five
or six files that i really need to get
back
I don't know six months from now with
this district pro software running in
the background
it is kind of kept a nice running total
of all these things that i trashed so
let's say I'm not backing up this
computer because of this particular when
I don't I had actually have a much
better chance of finding those files
because again this little piece of
software is running in the background
keeping a like a grocery list of all the
files that have trashed so i can get
them back even easier than with you know
with the software if you didn't have
that running you can still get a lot of
the stuff back it just takes a lot
longer to do that so the first things
first is I want to show you I i have my
hard drive mounted right here which is
the logical volume that's the internal
hard drive tells you a little bit about
it you'll see that there's a continue
button there because I've already
performed the scan the scan was let's
say i deleted a file i really want to
get it back you have to perform a scan
that took me on my SSD here took about
half an hour to perform the scan so I
didn't want to have that running while
doing this video so I pre scanned it and
I save the results which is also
pretty cool if you decide I want to scan
this and go eat dinner and come back you
know two hours from now it's going to
remember where you left off so you don't
have to keep doing these scans over and
over again or let's say you want to you
know go out for dinner and do this
tomorrow so you can quit all the
software and it keeps track of where it
left off which is really helpful so you
don't have to do these half our scans
every time you want to come to your
trash to find a file my also notice that
it does SD cards which I have a lot of
customers that come with you know come
to me and say I have a you know I lost
these photos and I photo I have no way
to get him back i always ask them do you
have the SD card available as another
software out there that can do it i
actually used a different piece of
software recently which was okay it
wasn't the greatest but i decided to try
the same thing i have an SD card right
here in my hand it's a two gig card and
this card has been with me forever
it's gone through many many video
cameras and I used to own
it's gone through all kinds of crazy you
know iterations of other races and I put
stuff on this card and taking stuff off
and this card has literally been with me
forever on so i decided i'm going to put
the card in which im gonna do right now
and I already scanned this card and in
to my surprise it actually pulled off
files that were pretty old so I'm just
going to close I photo there and you'll
notice that there's the the card that
just popped up on the screen
this is the card that I used to use in
one of the cameras and I already pre
scanned it and if i hit the continue
button it's going pretty much leave off
and again i scan this yesterday and I
took the card out and i just put it back
in and notice it just remembered right
where it left off which is amazing i
don't have to do that scan again which
again on this card took about 25 minutes
as well so if you look at this works is
reconstructed files i can click on that
and it found 51 videos 85 pictures and
one document in all of those pictures I
actually went through them all these
pictures are real photographs and you
notice the date on there from 2008 so
literally it found photos on this SD
card from 2008 that I deleted that long
ago and i was surprised to even see
these pictures because even though they
were mistaken and I deleted them
it's funny to load them up again and say
oh my god I remember taking that picture
and I you know I remember deleting it
and that was that many years ago and
these pictures are perfectly fine so I
actually pulled all these back out
you'll notice down here on the corner it
says mount found items is a disk which
is really cool as well you can mount
this and it gives you a virtual
recoverable disc double-click on it
right out in the finder there's my
reconstructed files there's my pictures
there's the JPEGs and they're pretty
much all there these are pictures of my
kids back in a play in 2008 which is
really cool it's like I said I haven't
seen those pictures forever and I didn't
even have these in my iPhoto library
because i had deleted these these were
kind of you know one off so I actually
pulled him back put them in iphoto and
now i have them which is really cool so
you get this nice virtual finder desk
where you can kind of comb through stuff
and pull stuff back out of the trash or
you know again this had nothing to do
with the trash discard this was just
this has been initialized it's been a
race that's been reused in many many
different video camera so this has
nothing to do with the computer it just
happens to be a video of video card and
SD card so that's pretty much it for
that which is really cool amount that
disk it's just going to take it away i
can go back a step and like i said
earlier i want to go back to my hard
drive because I came up with two special
files that i created and I purposely
trash because i want to see if they
could get them back again so i'm gonna
go right to my part drive here and I'm
going to continue because again i
scanned earlier but I'm gonna pick right
up where I left off so you'll see it's
going to load the session as soon as it
comes up here it's going to give me the
list basically my entire hard drive from
day one to today of all the stuff found
and there's a lot of stuff here you can
see there's about twenty 292,000 files
and found and reconstruct them and you
can see it even broken up into pictures
and documents and archives audio and
video now I know there's nothing on this
particular computer i want to recover
because if i deleted on here I know for
sure I don't need anymore but like I
said there are two files that i created
purposely to test the software out and I
even named them so i could find them
later and again i'm not going to go
through 292,000 files to find these
things i'm just not going to do it
because it could be anywhere in these
folders so what I noticed up here in the
left corner there's a search box which
makes your life so much easier to type
in the word that I'm looking for I name
these two files trashed tra shdd into a
search for oil and look what's going to
happen and actually just look through
almost I don't know 300,000 files that
quickly and there's my folder guaranteed
recovery two files click the triangle go
to users go to my name go to the trash
because that's where I left them
and lo and behold there they are trashed
jpg and trash text and I already emptied
the trash I put more stuff in the trash
since then but they are pretty much and
i'm just going to show you one more time
I'll double empty the trash right there
so they're not there
there's nothing in my trash my trash is
completely empty at this point but these
files have been recovered if I
double-click actually I'll just double
click right here and trash jpg it even
gives you a preview and there's the
little crazy baby i found saying all my
god i tried to file I can never get it
back again but i can get it back with
this drill because I'm doing it right
now so there's one and then the other
one is this one
double-click on trash . text which i
created yesterday and this file was just
trashed i hope i can get it back with
this drill and there you go
so the software really does work i have
to say it is worth uh you know the money
that they are asking for it and i can
give you a twenty-five percent off

piece of software if you're one of those
people who don't back up when you throw
stuff away a lot and you're you know or
you have old camera cards that you know
who knows what's on there almost like
little gold boxes because you never know
what you're gonna find you forget what
you've trashed and maybe a trash stuff
you know on purpose but don't forget
when you trash something
it kind of still stays there quite
awhile you know you're not gonna get
everything back but this is a really
good piece of software to try and i
believe they also have a demo version of
the two if i'm not mistaken so you can
actually try it see if it can recover
stuff if you feel like you can recover
it you can actually pay for the full
version get all your stuff back so I do
highly recommend this i'm going to keep
this software because I definitely see
myself using this at some point not so
much with myself but I have a lot of
customers that do come to me and say i
trashed this or I trash that
I'll never get it back again but lo and
behold you might have a chance with this
particular piece of software it's
well-written it looks good it doesn't
feel chin see it looks like they
actually put a lot of thought into the
interface there are some preferences up
here as well if you look through here
you can search you know you can sort by
what kind of file types it's going to
look for
so if I'm really just looking for audio
I can uncheck all the other boxes when I
do a scan that's really cool too
there's some security options on here
you can you know there's a recovery vol
you can lock down and put your password
then there's nobody can get in there you
can do all kinds of cool things with
disc lists and show all kinds of discs
that are mounted and not mounted it does
check your smart stuff which i think is
really cool you can hide that little
menu bar icon if you don't want to see
it
I actually like it you know i'm very
curious about the SSDI like this where
level of its tell me about their system
you know check for updates startup and
you can even remove the software right
from this side Preferences window which
I like a lot
I'm one where I like to know that
there's an idea installer so i don't
have to worry about all these files that
are all over the system so like I said
this is a really good really good piece
of software I do highly recommend it
