Welcome to dbForge Data Compare for SQL
Server Tutorials.
In this tutorial, we will learn how to boost data comparison and synchronization of your SQL Server databases
with dbForge Data Compare for SQL Server.
From the Start Page of the application,
you can easily access recently saved
comparison projects
as well as the high-usage tools and
Devart resources.
Both comparison and synchronization are
performed through comprehensive and easy-to-
follow wizards.
To start the comparison wizard, click New Data
Comparison.
As source and target, you can select a
database or a backup in any combination.
Select a connection and a database for source
and target.
Switch to the Options page, to customize comparison options.
For a quick navigation, you can use the Find box.
Let's clear the "Ignore computed columns"
option, and
select options to ignore case in object names
and non-key columns and to display identical
records.
You can save all your settings as a command
line arguments file,
and use it for scheduling comparison and
synchronization tasks.
To review the default mapping, switch to the
Mapping page.
You can manually map schemas, objects and
columns.
Now we can start comparison.
Comparison results are displayed as a
comparison document.
The Total Differences grid displays, what records
of compared objects are identical, different,
exist only in source, or only in target.
You can also view the detailed differences
for each object, groupped by status and displayed in separate tabs.
You can show or hide identical columns,
exclude separate records,
or a group of records from synchronization.
Also, you can apply multiple filters and generate
comparison report.
Click Synchronize to start Synchronization
wizard.
Define what you would like to do with the
synchronization script: open, save or execute.
Switch to the Options page and select required
sync options.
If you don't need to backup the target database,
clear this option.
On the Summary tab, you can review the list of
warnings and notifications.
Warnings inform that you should undertake
some actions to guarantee the correct result.
For a quick navigation through the actions plan, use the Find box.
Now we are ready to start synchronization.
Here is the synchronization script, that can
viewed, edited, saved or executed.
As you see, it's really easy to compare and
synchronize your databases with dbForge Data
Compare.
