How to Use the New and Improved SurveyMonkey Email Collector

We've made some updates to our email collector, which allows you to add a list of emails into SurveyMonkey and send a unique survey link through a message delivered by our mail server. You can then track who has responded, who has not responded, who opted out, etc.

hey there i'm john and I'm a user
experience designer here at SurveyMonkey
we're in the business of feedback and
we're constantly improving our product
based on what we hear from you the
customer today i want to share some of
the improvements that we made to our
email collector based on a lot of
suggestions you provided the email
collector is one of the many ways you
can send out your survey and gather
responses
let's take a look so I've created this
survey about an upcoming trip to Lake
Tahoe I want to use the email collector
to send this survey to my friends so we
can figure out driving arrangements
since my survey is ready to go i'll
click the collect icon
choose the email collector option
may my collector
email and click next step
here i see that there are three steps in
the process of creating and sending an
email collector select recipients create
message and preview and send next I'll
add my friend's email addresses they
will each receive an email with a link
to the survey i'll add one email address
/ line not my list is completed i can
click on add recipients now I will click
on save and continue at this stage have
the ability to send this email
invitation to only recipients or I could
filter the list by email address first
name last name or custom value the
custom criteria option is really useful
when you have large lists of users and
want to segment this list in various
ways i want all the recipients that i
just added in the previous step to
receive the email invitation so i'll
select send to New now I will click on
save and continue during this step I
will create the message of the email
that the recipient will receive first
i'll enter a subject line team tahoe how
to get there
next I want to modify the default email
message here and add something custom is
i'm reviewing my message i also want to
double check to be sure that the survey
link and remove link tags are intact
when i send the email the survey link
tag will become the actual survey link
and the remove link will become the
opt-out link if I happen to accidentally
delete either of these I can reinsert
them by simply using these action
buttons here
additionally i can personalize the
e-mail say for example I want the
message to address each person by their
first names such as dear Jason she'll or
what have you
I can insert a personalization tag have
the ability to include recipients first
name last name email address or custom
data by inserting one of these tags into
the body of the message and before i
send let's quickly spell check my
subject line and my message
next I will click Save and continue here
i can preview my message one last time I
see the delivery date and this has not
yet been scheduled
I see the total number of recipients and
the list of users that will receive this
in this case only recipients will
receive this email invitation
now i need to schedule this I can either
select to send this
email now or I can schedule this email
to be delivered at a later time
following the scheduling of my email i
am redirected to the message manager
here i can see all of my draft messages
and my scheduled messages if for some
reason I want to cancel delivery i can
click on the subject of the message and
do so here
alright so let's say it's been a few
days since I set up my email collector a
few folks have responded but some folks
have not
it's important to get responses from
everyone I want to email the people that
have not yet responded to kind of remind
them and encourage them to complete my
survey when I come back into my email
collector summary page I can see how
many people have responded and have not
responded from here i can quickly click
on send reminder email to the people
have not responded doing that will take
me directly to step number two in the
process which is create message here i
can include my friendly reminder message
and then I follow the remaining steps to
preview and send and there we go
I've collected responses to my survey
with the new email collector and send a
reminder email if you have any questions
