How to Make a Screen Saver Using Adobe After Effects CC

When I was looking how to convert my after effects file into a screen saver, I couldn't find any videos on how to do it. So once I figured it out I figured I would post this tutorial for the rest of you. This video is intended to show you how to turn an after effects animation into a screen saver, I will not show you how to create an animation from scratch, as there are many videos on that out there. This video simply shows you how to convert the animation that you already made into the files and placement necessary to be a functioning screen saver. And its not hard at all :D.
P.S. You can directly import Photoshop files when creating your animations and they will look even cooler if you use 3D Photoshop images.

hey everybody sorry i made a video in a
while my screen recorder actually broke
but i just recently was able to make it
go back to an older version on and i'll
be using that now I figured this out a
few months back but like i said i
couldn't show it to you guys because of
my screen quarter its how to make a
screensaver using Adobe After Effects CC
actually was trying to figure out how to
do this myself and i looked online and
nobody had any videos up so I was like
okay so i eventually figured it out and
I said you know what I will put a video
up so other people can do it too so it's
actually pretty simple
open up your Adobe After Effects CC and
open up whatever project you wanna use
as your screensaver now I'm not going to
actually show you how to make one from
scratch because there are tons and tons
of different things you can do and
there's also tons of videos on how to do
those how to actually make an
application up whatever it is a
animation sorry
so you can go ahead and look up whatever
kind of animation you want to make but
i'm just going to show you a simple one
for now so go ahead and open a project
i'm going to open this one just to show
you guys okay it's really simple just
spins that's all it does
yes its resident evil because the games
are much fun especially the old ones so
there's only a couple things you need to
do here there's going to be this bar at
the bottom and this will basically show
you the duration of your a pure
animation so first preview it this
little preview tab press play and it's
just going to show you your animation
and mine ends at about four seconds see
it stopped spinning
so what we want to do is we want to make
that continuous we want to make a loop i
don't want it to stop so i'm gonna move
this little gray bar at the bottom down
to where my little animation stop
spinning which is about four seconds I'm
going to play it again just to make sure
loops
and see it looks perfectly looks how I
wanted to so once you do that your
animation will loop how you want it to
this is just a preview it's not real
time on so the first time you preview it
might look really laggy and crappy but
uh preview it again and it should be
fine when you make it into a screensaver
it should play continuously without any
lag so now this file is ready for me
once it's ready for you go to file
export adobe flash player swf that's
what you want to export it as then you
can save it as whatever you want i'm
going to go ahead and just delete these
two really quick actually
well I'm gonna save it as you for just
so you guys can see that it works you
can save it as whatever you want doesn't
matter right now i'm going to put the
quality up to maximum doesn't matter
what you do really what if you want to
look really nice i would say up your
quality actually going to put it on high
why not then you're going to click this
is going to be at ignore probably this
unsupported features you need to change
that to rasterize otherwise your little
application won't or keep saying
application sorry your animation won't
play so make sure it's on rasterized and
then options this loop thing
click it loop continuously you wanted to
do that and then
ok so now it's going to save your image
might take a little while depending on
the quality you chose now there is one
other thing you'll need for this but
don't get mad or growing or anything
like that you know you guys hate
downloading things but it's really
simple it's just to put the file in the
right place so that the your computer
can read it as a screensaver
so go to google and type WG screensaver
i'll put the link in the description
just so is easier so this first
link right here cnet download don't be
afraid of viruses either this one has
not given me any viruses i did this
about four months ago I did it like
three times today for the sake of this
video so you're going to click download
now and this little pop up at the bottom
I hold on wait for it
there we go just click save and run when
it's all saved run it and set that
application i'm not going to do it
because like i said already did like six
times you can close your After Effects
now you don't need that you can save it
if you want i'm not gonna already have
it saved then you're going to go ahead
and open up WG screensaver you're going
to get a little pop-up probably just
click yes it's just saying if you're
allowed to open or not
okay then you're at the screen what you
want to do is add file now down here
there's this little file types option
make sure it's set on swf video so still
nothing might pop up for you but you
gotta navigate to where you saved your
After Effects file which for me is you
know pictures in this folder blah blah
so i'm gonna click it
that's my safe one that i'm going to
open it
ok so right here this preview it should
make your little application it should
move like if it's not moving then
something went wrong I would try
repeating the process making sure you
rasterize that was a big thing for me I
actually it paused for me and I just
realized that it wasn't cuz I it was
because I didn't rasterize it so make
sure this application thing is spinning
or doing whatever you make it do your
animation
ok so this image size mine is already
the same size as my computer's
resolution but if yours isn't just click
fit to screen doesn't matter this
transition interval you don't need that
because you already have a file that's
for if you add multiple files and you
want to want to make a gift or something
like that
background color you can do whatever you
want if you already have a background on
your animation such as I do you don't
really need this background Paul what
was going to do that case now
screensaver name
this is what your screen savers name is
going to be when you go to load it in on
your computer so just name it something
that you want to name it simple as that
why it's doing this ok so i'm going to
name it you for once again just so you
guys can see I'm click preview screen
saver just so you can see that works i
don't know if you guys can see this
right now but it's working for me
there we go and then click create
screensaver now it's a screensaver is
successfully created and that's really
bad grammar but it'll do
just when you get that message that's a
good sign so now you can close that and
go ahead and go to where you can choose
your screensaver for me you can just
right-click the desktop background and
click personalize or for some people it
might be settings or something like that
properties could be that so then
navigate your way to where you see a
little screensaver link however your
setup is I don't know
and now here you're going to see
whatever you saved it as so i saved it
as you for and you're going to see
another thing that that's the same thing
you for your name whatever you named it
with a pee in front of it that will go
away next time you open it so don't
worry I know it's really annoying right
now at least for me but just click your
little what you want to save it as and
click preview it once again i don't know
if it shows up on my screen recorder but
working for me and then click apply and
then it should work
you can test it again you can make this
down to one minute just to make sure it
works
ok so now once again just to show you
that that little PU foresee the pee
thing went away it was just there's a
second file that shows up when you load
in thing don't worry about so i'm going
to show you how to delete any
screensavers you don't want
well that you made at least so that's
really simple to all you do is go to
your
file folders and go to computer local
disk c Windows then system32 and then
your screensaver will be somewhere in
one of these like all this stuff down
here it'll be somewhere down here but if
you don't want to scroll through all
that just type in the name of it at this
little search box to find it I named at
you for
ok so now you see there's two things see
this was the thing that was pu for and
this is review for so yes you need both
of those files if you want to keep the
screen saver if you want to delete it
just delete the files and it won't show
up anymore
ok I deleted them so i'm gonna show you
just to confirm see the you for is not
here any longer so that's like if you
make a screen saver and you just don't
want it on there anymore just go ahead
and delete it that way okay well i hope
