hi guys how's it going now I have a
question for you
how many of you have old stacks of dvds
that you think are completely worthless
now because no one uses optical media
anymore for burning discs and the new
blu rays out for a while now so you
might think that dvds are worthless
now what if i told you there's a pretty
easy way you can actually convert a DVD
to a blu-ray disc this might sound crazy
but it's actually possible and i'll
explain why
now unfortunately this only works on the
DVD because the way it's structured at a
basic level this won't work with CDs so
let's get right into it
first you have to take your big stack of
cds and you need to get a blue marker of
some kind it can be permanent marker
it can be expo marker dry erase anything
blue
I guess theoretically a pen but it would
be really difficult
so any type of blue marker is what you
need so really the only thing you have
to do is take your blue marker and
literally start coding the DVD with blue
ink just like this and the reason this
works is because like i said before the
dvds are structured at a basic level the
same as blu-rays
the difference is that blu rays use a
blue laser which can only be read
if the optical media itself can reflect
blue light
so to do that it has to be blue dvds are
typically more of a purple or clear
so the old lasers in the DVD lasers can
read dvds but they won't work with
blu-ray and also make sure you do it on
the optical side . the label side
because it's not going to do anything if
you do it on the label side so encoding
the dvds with this blue ink
it's going to allow the blu-ray readers
to read the DVD this means you can write
and read to the DVD
he just like you would a blu ray it's
going to be able to store the same
amount of data because the blue laser is
a smaller focal length which means that
it can code more data
now you really don't have to understand
the physics of it I kind of got a little
bit into that it basically just has to
do with the color of the light and being
able to reflect it
now you're probably wondering why I cds
won't work the dvds will it's actually
has to do with the basic structural
level of the disk the cds are
constructed a little bit differently i'm
not going to get into it but even if it
was blue the laser wouldn't be able to
read it because it's it's a different
structure
so now let's see what this does all put
the regular DVD and first
this is what it looks like regular four
point seven gigabytes as you expect
and then after you put it in after
coating it
you get the blu ray sighs disc tens of
gigabytes
as you would expect with a regular
blu-ray disc it works exactly the same
so you're probably thinking our what's
the catch all right well basically what
happens is if you let be coding
we're off the disk then the blu-ray
player is not going to be able to read
or write to it
so all you have to do in that case is
recode it with the blue ink so that's
why i recommend using a a permanent
marker as opposed to expo or dry erase
obviously dry race is going to wipe off
really easily
you're going to be constantly recoding
it so i recommend like a sharpie
permanent marker sent something like
that would that will last longer and
that's pretty much all there is to it
