welcome everyone
it is Andrew here from my download blog
today we're in a way through the crowded
mess that is the app store to find the
best audio recording apps out there
we're gonna find the top four as well as
three honorable mentions the first up on
our list is recorder plus recorder plus
is available for free but has a lot of
in-app purchases
it is probably the best professional
audio recording app out there on the app
store is the most features and
customization out of pretty much all the
ones we're going to look at you can
easily organize your files inside the
app itself you can share to a variety of
different cloud services including
things like ftp dropbox and more you can
trim
so after you're done recording if you
ever need to edit your files that's very
easy to do if you want to email them you
can actually touch more than one at a
time to email instead of forced to use
the share sheet
there's tons of different in-app
purchases though which is good and bad
good because you don't have to have the
ones you don't want but that means if
you buy them all and may be very
expensive
there are a ton of different recording
formats including AAC m4a which are the
really popular ones can even choose the
quality recording from low medium high
which is going to depend on the file
size
if you need to password protect the app
itself you can but unfortunately it's
lacking touch ID if you're looking for
an app that has a ton of features of
customization
you should check out recorder plus
second up on the list is just press
record and to be honest this is actually
my favorite of all the recording apps
and woman I kind of just tend to default
to when I need to record something
it's very easy to record even from the
home screen using a 3d touch gesture on
the icon itself inside the app is very
simple with just a big button to record
and then there's a list of folders based
on the date you can use peak and pop
gesture which is 3d touch to look into
those folders to see the recordings that
are in
but other than that you literally just
press record and it's super simple all
of your files are recorded into mp4 AAC
so really high audio quality and it's
automatically synced the iCloud Drive
just straight into their but you don't
have options to move it out of this
using the share sheet so you can move to
stuff like Dropbox or email if you ever
do delete an audio recording it will be
off all your devices at once because of
the game
it's just thinking with iCloud Drive
like almost everyone on this list
it has an ipad app which included with
your one purchase so it's fully
universal app but this is the only one
that actually supports split-screen
multitasking on the ipad so it's nice i
can be taking notes while at the same
time recording here on the right-hand
side and that you know one third of my
screen so this is the only one to
support that multitasking on the ipad
which is really nice
alongside that multitasking square on
ipad they also baking support for apple
watch
so if you do have an Apple watch you
have an audio recording app available on
your wrist
it does support watch OS to which is
very handy you can start and stop
recording right from your Apple watch
and it will save it even locally so if
you don't have your phone available it
can still save it to your watch and then
you can simply transfer it to your phone
whenever you know they get back together
once they are saved on to hear you can
view them inside of that recent menu
there on that bottom left-hand side so
you can see my recent recordings the
outbox is anything that needs to be
synced from my watch over to my phone
but what's really handy is you can
actually play them back on your Apple
watch
so if i recorded this i can use the
speaker on the Apple watch and play back
here so I can listen even on my watch
since this is iCloud Drive everything is
available on all devices including Mac
where they have an app available as well
you can pick it up for iPhone iPad and
Apple watch for 299
next up is voice recorder HD this is a
really great addition to our list the
icon does support 3d touch so i can view
my listings or start a recording right
for my home screen which i always
appreciate taking advantage of those new
technologies on the newer devices the UI
itself is a little bit skin more fit for
my taste and
this it's starting to look a little bit
dated compared to everything else on the
list but still functions great is
getting regular updates you can share
easily and if you have transcribed me
you can transcribe any of these
dictations or audio recordings
simple enough using that separate
account you can actually link your
dropbox account here so if you do you
think your dropbox account
it allows you to just easily new files
from here to dropbox and back them up in
the cloud and not relying to store them
purely in the app alone
now there are unfortunately quite a few
in-app purchases the most of them are
things you don't necessarily need one
notable one is audio boost which is a
special one just to voice recorder HD
which really just picks up
lower lower levels of audio
unfortunately it does not have any audio
format simply using wav unless you
purchase the converter to use em for a
overall this is a solid app that bakes
in a lot of features including Apple
watch support
it's not as robust as it is with just
just press record
but you can start and stop recording
from the watch which is still a very
handy any worthwhile feature to point
out if you're interested in voice
recorder HD you can find it for only 199
but there are in app purchases for those
more Pro features like em for a support
next up on the list is voice recorder
voice recorder is really nice because it
bakes in a lot of pro features but it's
completely free
since the first one of our list at one
hundred percent free with no in-app
purchases to worry about
we're still at least one kind of notable
feature when you're playing back you can
jump between different essentially
chapters or important marks that you
flag
you can change the rate at which is
playing so you can have variable rates
if you want to rush through an audio
recording you can speed it up two maybe
three times just to listen to a quicker
and when you're recording audio makes it
really easy to flag those important
parts so maybe you're in a meeting and
every time you change topics you want to
go ahead and and market you hit that
flag button allows you to easily jump
between them
when you're playing back that audio
there's good organization in the app
itself you can create folders as well as
renaming any of the files you can
transfer them to any computer using
Wi-Fi
which is also really handy and they
baked in a bunch of different formats
for recording including and for a if you
need to password protect the app you can
put in a passcode with an email reset
but unfortunately this one - does not
support touch ID to get into the app
itself
you can find this for absolutely free on
the App Store
next up and it starts are honorable
mention section and that's voice
recorder
unfortunately a lot of these have really
similar names so we've made it easy with
links in the description below
but voice recorder is really nice it's a
little bit of a kind of complicated
looking you I but it works well enough
it's really notable feature is that it
actually can transcribe your dictations
or your audio messages
the second tab on the bottom is any
recordings you have when you're in here
you can choose it you can edit and trim
this if you pay for the pro version you
can add noise gate which reduces
background noise but even in the free
version you can convert this to text so
it just actually a hundred percent
converted that and there are 44
different languages that the supports in
the settings section one is transcribed
it will add as a text file also within
the app on the third tab down at the
bottom if you do opt for the pro version

it will include Apple watch support
noise gate that we mentioned before and
it will remove the ads
next up in our honorable mention is
smart record
this application is really handy if you
need to do something kind of more
detailed with your audio recordings it -
supports 3d touch on your home screen
and when you're recording something
it allows you to easily add text a photo
or just a important flag into that
recording going to simply hit the text
button it'll nopee time that i'm adding
this note i could add a photo and take a
photo of maybe a slide or you know
something that the professor is
displaying up on screen and then I could
just add an important flag is something
I need to make sure I go back to when I
am really listening to this audio
so when I'm viewing I can see any of
those annotations then i added directly
to my kind of audio recording this app
also build in transcription
unfortunately it's an additional fee of
one dollar a minute
so it could be quite expensive if you're
transcribing a bunch of things but then
again it could also be really handy if
you do need transcriptions without doing
it yourself
it supports three different audio
formats including m4a CAF and wav
including a wide variety of audio
qualities to go along with it if you
upgrade to the pro version you'll get
dropbox integration remove all the ads
higher audio quality and my favorite
just auto silence detection and we'll
just remove those parts completely and
the last up on our list is Evernote
everyone is familiar with Evernote good
old standby for just note taking and one
feature you may not know about is you
can actually take audio recordings right
within the app so if I'm here taking
note about something in a meeting as I
normally would be
i can record it at the same time so
whether you're in a lecture or a
business meeting
you can record the whole presentation
and it will be inserted right here into
the note is fully searchable and single
bein Evernote so it's really handy if
Evernote is something that you are
already currently using
unfortunately that means it's really in
Evernote and it's a lot harder to get
out so that is it seven great audio
recording apps but this is by no means
the definite list
