hello this is ken from the computer
claim here today with a demo of a very
nice and powerful video conversion
program for the mac it's called macx
video converter pro and it works rather
well it's from this website here and
there are many other programs available
here as well and there is a windows
version of this program i will be
showing the software on a Mac but keep
in mind if you need this on Windows you
can get it for windows as well for a
pretty decent price so version 5 was
released very recently so it's time to
do a new demo here so for this
demonstration I have three things here
that i will be using the application for
first I'd like to show you the installer
well like most mac apps there isn't
really an installer you just get this
graphic here of the logo when you
download the disk image it will show
this window in the finder when you open
it and all you do is drag it into your
Applications folder i already have it
installed so I'm not gonna replace it
but all you do is drag it in and a good
go so i'm going to open it up from my
launch pad or i can have it in the doc
here as you can see just cook it and
here we go
we have a bunch of functionality is
built in such as adding movies pictures
there's even a built-in youtube
downloader and there's even a screen
recorder so like i'm recording my screen
right now to show you this demo but for
example if you don't have any other
screen recording program well this
converter has built-in record which is
pretty nice as well the first thing i
want to do is convert a file i have a
movie here that I worked on a while ago
called the red letter day and overall
it's a pretty long movie it's 31 minutes
you know it's pretty large and file size
is long so let's see it is 1.75
gigabytes in size right so that's a
little large maybe I want to shrink it
down shorten it a bit and send it to a
friend and sending large files over the
internet doesn't always work so well so
maybe I want to
make it more convenient to send over the
web so we're going to add a file and
I'll choose my ghost murder movie and
I'll open that and it will load it right
into here and my default we have a whole
bunch of output presets that lets us
choose how we want the video to be when
it's encoded so i can code for a
specific microsoft device maybe or i can
convert it to fit and android tablet and
there's a lot of specific devices in
here that have optimal presets for them
as you can see maybe I want to convert
it specifically for an apple device
maybe I want to make a low-res video for
an iphone so let's see we'll do mp4 and
we'll do a resolution of 640 by 480 and
I can choose the quality i can make it
higher or lower now 640 by 480 is a 423
aspect ratio that's a video that's
typically a little more square looking
but my original video is 16 by 9 which
is $OPERAND widescreen don't worry it
will automatically change into 640 x 360
it will keep the aspect ratio so let's
say I want this one I want to convert to
iphone it done now as you can see up
here have a little iphone icon that
means a you're using the iphone format
and if i click this gear i get even more
settings so i can choose my codec which
mpeg-4 is the only option for the iphone
here and my movie was shot at 30 frames
per second by default it went to 23 9 7
which is more of a film frame rate but I
can have it go to keep original and then
it will know which frame rate to use and
I can hit OK and apply these settings
will do that now let's say I only want
the viewer to see a little bit of the
movie as you can see the movies about 31
minutes along i can go to this edit
button and I can actually go through the
memory right here right
you know so i can pause that go to trim
and let's say end time I want to do
we'll just do one minute here so i could
drag the output here yoga like that or i
can even type in the value down here
i'll just do one minute
so now I only have one minute of the
movie selected all that done and as you
can see 02 59 seconds so that is all
that will export so now i'm all ready to
go
I have all my settings set my little
edits and everything and I could even
preview more of it down here like this
is the whole movie so I get the idea of
what i'm working with so I can go and
hit run but before I do that i'd like to
show you another cool thing my macbook
pro has for physical cores and for
virtual cores on the processor you can
set how many cores you want this
application used so if you only want to
use half of your computer's full
processing power essentially you can set
the fourth you want the other cores to
be used for other applications or if you
want to go full speed ahead and render
at full power go with all the cores you
have and you can also choose your
destination folder which is where the
final movie will be placed I just chose
the desktop for this demonstration
okay well good to go let's hit run and
will tell me how it's going right now
it's going at 260 FPS looks like it's
more than halfway done already and we're
good to go
as you can see there's my movie it's
nice and short
it's only a minute long now and as you
can see the file size is a point four
megabytes so it's really easy to send
that over the internet now that's a
really small file that could even fit as
an email attachment in most cases so
that's pretty convenient for this next
demonstration I will simulate a
situation that has definitely happened
to me before
when you're working on the Mac you're
probably working with videos but
sometimes you'll have a client or a
friend that sends you a file that is a
WMV as you can see the WMV here can be
opened up by VLC that's what this icon
is but if you're going to use it in
quick time which is a very popular media
player or perhaps and I move your final
cut
you may have some issues getting a
windows media format to import while
with this conversion software that's not
a problem we can make this a QuickTime
movie that is optimized for use inside
of other applications or just inside the
quicktime player so I'll just drag this
windows media file
into the program it loads up and if i go
to Mac general video I have some very
good options especially for quicktime
mom is the standard QuickTime format and
h.264 is a very popular codec that works
with it so i'm going to choose this one
and had done so i have this old movie
that i made a long time ago it was a
little intro video for a windows thing
as you can see i got a little windows
logo going on here and this is a WMV so
like i said earlier i probably won't be
able to play instead of quicktime our
final cut our I movie but now that it
says mom right here my of h.264 we're
converting this specifically for
quicktime other media players can use
QuickTime files but this is not more
optimized to playback on the mac so
we're all good to go
I have all my cores I want to use on the
course it goes at full speed will hit
run and converting and it's done already
so now i can open this in quicktime and
it works just fine earlier if I would
try to open up the windows file in
quicktime i would get this lovely error
it doesn't work but this file works just
fine because we converted it with macx
and it works great the last feature of
this program I would like to demo is the
youtube downloader it is very simple
so go over to the YouTube tab here and
we'll hit add a link and as you can see
we just paste it right here so I'll go
to my little bookmark having my desktop
here for video i made earlier open this
up and here's my movie here and let's
say i want to download this file to my
computer I could do that simply by
taking the URL copiée switch back to
the program here and paste when i hit
analyze macx will tell me what formats
and resolutions i can download in so
let's take a look and here we go i can
download in all of these different
resolutions this is 1920 x 1080 so
that's high definition this is 720p
high-definition but maybe i just want a
really small files so i'll stick with
this one it's only six point three megs
so that's nothing will hit OK
and here we are presented with the movie
file coming right from the YouTube
server I will choose my destination
folder i will set my desktop for this
demonstration looks like we're all good
to go so we'll hit download now and it
will now take the file off the server
and put it on my desktop and right here
is that file we just downloaded from
youtube as you can see it works just
fine no problems so that is a quick look
at macx video converter and some of its
