doing this is Cole with Cole's
cholesterol and today what we want to
talk about is sort of how to improve
your workflow in lightroom and make sure
that you're able to edit in process
photos as quick as possible of course
not with cutting corners but just by
learning a couple tricks and really
learning how to benefit from batch
processing and what best processing
refers to is simply when we can take a
chunk of photos that were all taken with
similar camera settings or a similar
scene going we're going to edit the one
picture to our liking and then we're
going to go ahead and just apply those
changes to all the other images within
that batch of photos so let's go in a
jump right on it
so here's our first picture and this guy
this picture is exactly i came out of
the camera it's a from an exposure step
. not bad at all but I don't we can make
it better
so one way of batch processing is for us
to edit one photo and then go ahead and
copy it to all the other ones and i'll
show you this right now in action and
then i'll also show you an alternate way
to batch process which may well we'll
get there so sorry for jumping around
let's get started and the first thing
I'm going to do just to get as close as
I got my presets over here i'm going to
do my standard base contrast boost and
then now i'm going to come over here and
find fine tune so a lot of my time has
been sort of looking at the histogram
and making sure that we have even
coverage and there's no blown out
highlights and stuff like that so it's
not just a little more contrast with the
blacks and the shadows just to make give
a little extra pop
highlights i think what good i think
wisely good there is ok and this is how
is we just we're just gonna go right on
down
sliders here making little adjustments
sharpening is fine we got a small amount
of vignettes on there just to put
everyone's eyes right in the middle and
I think that looks good i was like to
see a little before and after to see
what actually changed i like it so we're
going to now learn how to take the
settings that we just did here and apply
them for a couple other photos that are
in this exact location and this isn't my
whole entire set of photos down here as
you can see so if this was a wedding and
we might be applying this to you know 40
50 frames in this case it looks like you
have three down here that were in this
spot so we're just going to go over here
to the copy button and as you can see
where the develop module we're going to
copy
we're going to tell it what we want to
copy and in this case I really just want
to copy over the the editing settings
not the crop is I'm going to uncheck
drop it copy come over here to this guy
and then you just add the paste button
now that will work if you do a single
image if i wanted to paste it to more
than 1 i'm just going to hold down ctrl
or shift to select as you can see more
and more and more and hear what do these
two now we're going to right-click we're
going to say develop settings and then
paste settings and that right there is
the real power and batch editing like I
said on wedding we're doing this to
40-50 even more images at once so that's
option number one for batch editing
which is sort of smaller chunks i would
say now let's say that this whole entire
shoot it was brand-new fresh out of the
camera one thing
especially it was nice and even lighting
one thing that you can do just to sort
of give you a head start is you can
simply select i'm going to hold down
shift key so now I got all my images
just pretending here and I want to apply
a preset so something that I've already
done or built in the past to everything
here and then of course we should
probably go through and fine-tune but
this is the way you do it you select all
your pictures they're going to
right-click we're going to also go to
develop settings but instead of hitting
paste we're going to come out here to
presets you can see all that there's
your Lightroom presets here's my user
presets now let's just suppose I wanted
this bass boost mid shadows that I've
developed it that you can see at the
bottom
they're all sort of start kicking off
here and right here this black-and-white
is going to go away
imagine right about now yeah they're so
basically erase the edge that I had
already done just for the just for
example purposes but that right there is
a quick way if you want to sort of if
you have a preset that sort of gets you
most of the way there then I prefer that
method you can sort of get let that be
your step 1 apply that preset and then
go down image by image or batch by batch
and do your fine tunings so with that
said I hope this may be taught you a
thing or two about how you can hopefully
improve your workflow and maybe have a
new trick in your tool belt sort of get
your processing those images nice and
quickly because the truth is the quicker
that you can get those images finished
and looking sharp and out to your client
the happier client you were going to
have I guarantee it
so I hope you enjoy the rest of your
thanksgiving weekend thanks for tuning
in and we will see you next time
