HP Data Protector 7 - Granular Recovery Extention for Microsoft Exchange
With the release of HP Data Protector 7, we build upon a history of application owner centric recovery tools by releasing the Granular Recovery Extension for Microsoft Exchange environments.
The GRE for Microsoft Exchange 2010 is directly integrated into the Microsoft Management Console. This allows Microsoft Exchange Server administrators and HP Data Protector backup administrators to easily recover a variety of Exchange objects through a simple, easy to use interface. It allows for single item recovery of things such as mail, calendar and contact related items.

exchange data for granular recovery such
as mail items or contact
within the wizard we have the ability to
select either the mailbox for the entire
database
under protection first step in
recovering a single atom
or users entire mailbox is a slick the
mailbox in question
in this demo will pick a user named
Vicky
and restore some of her critical mail
items for example something related to
compliance request
the exchange cheery & Data Protector we
can simply select
the various points in time where the
Content in question may reside
these points in time related application
consistent backups
created by Data Protector using
integration with Microsoft
Volume Shadow Copy Service for BSS for
example
they could resign on desk or on tape
these backups can either be incremental
or four
if an incremental backup is chosen
they'd the complete backup chain
in that column its data will be restored
at we have selected the user mailbox
that were planning to restore from
the point in time for instance we can
redirect the restore to a different
exchangers
but here we're just gonna specify the
restore location to assist with the
recovery process
once the steps complete to protect will
trigger the restore
and as you can view in the status window
you'll see the previous restores as well
as the current restore task running
the stands when to provide a granular
detail for each task
for instance this dialogue
box as indicated the successful restore
for that point I'm
we can now search and find the exact
item that we're looking for
and conductor recovery but in order to
do so
we need to first mount this newly
restored database
and start the recovery process here will
select the user Vicky
and initiate the recovery of her date in
question
within
mailbox selection dialog box get simply
select the user Vicky
and hit next to proceed the search
window optionally
we can choose to recover her entire
mailbox this
easy to use search dialog box allows us
to find items by variables such as
subject sender
if the mail item has an attachment
specific content with items such as
specific date or time
we simply take the default and had next
to proceed as you can see we have full
visibility into the keys mailbox at this
point I'm
allowing us to browse a bright evading
type such as calendar entries
email items context note another
interesting areas ever change mailbox
for instance when we select your inbox
we can see
entire view of the email messages at the
folder level
at that point in time which Data
Protector is backed up this user's data
now the exchange admin only has a basic
view the information for instance
they conceded subject the to the from
the data they're searching for but they
cannot actually open the message is in
question
this is leveraging security its built-in
inherent to the GRE plugin
we're going to select the messages were
looking for a question
and then hit next in the recovery's
setting section the jury
we can choose a location in which we'd
like to recover the data
for instance bickering in the folder our
leverage the auto created folder based
on a timestamp
when the backup was last taken in this
case were in a minute to
HP TP demo incomplete or process and
then what next
once the process is completed
will see the successful recovery for
data that we've selected within this
granular recovery process
as we switch to the user's context seen
here within Microsoft outlook
Vicky our User can now see
they restore data and specifically the
to restore it emails that we selected
through the recovery process
as resume to the right side pain you can
now see the to email messages in
question
